+Strong +Great Master Spark +Nice shottype in general! -Hitbox, but not so much -May suffer in stages.
SanaeB 9.5/10
+Strong +Reallllllllyyyyy amazing bomb +Great in stages AND bosses +Really amazing shot. -Not as strong as MarisaA or ReimuA

+Good in stages +Not a bad bomb -Weak against bosses -Usual Marisa stuff -Is she for scoring? Idk because I don't pay OVERLY much attention to scoring when I'm a beginner at the game.

+Good strength +Homing +Not bad in stages +Not a bad bomb -Not as good as SanaeB -Bomb isn't bad, but is not amazingly strong like SanaeB's.

ReimuA: 9/10 - Greatest choice for survival play. Her strong shot can demolish just about any enemy in a short while and she can also take down spell cards quite quickly which is something to be appreciated in a game like this. Her only real drawback is her crappy bomb which slows her down. A thing that is quite annoying to have to deal with when trying to summon UFOs.
ReimuB: 7/10 - The homing is fairly good and on fights like Shou she can really come in handy. She is one of the lowest scoring shots in the game though, which i expect is due to her not having any real benefits for scoreplay but I don't know the specifics, I don't use her much and I don't care to find out more about her, at least not for now. I'll let her sit with a reasonable score because she's at least okay in survival play.
MarisaA: 5/10 - Her piercing laser and her large grazebox makes her an ideal shot for scoring as she is very good at killing things even though a UFO may be in the way. However I find using her to be annoying because her options are glowy sprites that makes it insufferably annoying to play any attack with bright glowing bullets in them, which is somethign UFO unfortunately is quite fond of.
MarisaB: 7/10 - She comes with the same advantages of being Marisa as mentioned above but rather than being equipped with a shot that produces blue balls in your face whenever focused, we get the ability to shotgun things and a bomb that most scrubs probably hate. There's a handful of reasons why this bomb is better than Master Spark though. One, it doesn't slow you down and two, its damage output is really low. The low damage output means that you can summon a UFO, then drop the bomb to kill all the enemies while still having the UFO survive if it was at full health when you bombed. That's pretty handy and makes her a workable alternative to SanaeB. The reason scrubs hate her is because the bombs invincibility time wears off quickly and so you might find yourself dying due to getting hit by something while you think you're still invulnerable. Why people that bad at the games play anyone but the best shots though... idk.
SanaeA: 7/10 - Practically ReimuB. She's homing in a way and she scores roughly the same. Not much to say.
SanaeB: 10/10 - Easily the best shot in UFO. She has excellent range and decent damage at whatever is right in front of her. She is good for everything. LNB, your average scrub 1cc or scoreplay. Her bomb is super good in that it gives you a good period of time to set yourself up for a UFO summon (that you can strategically by hugging the UFO piece until the explosion triggers to avoid having the bomb take down the UFO. She currently has the overall WR beating out MarisaA by just about a million points.
She is also the girl that I am hoping to eventually use to make my strides towards some UFO score runs.

I can only really rate the Sanae shots accurately, I only use Sanae while playing UFO.
Reimu A: 8/10 She seems strong. Forward focus is nice.
Reimu B: 7/10 Weaker Sanae A. Oh well.
Marisa A: 8/10 Lasers rule in UFO. Marisa cons drag her down.
Marisa B: 5/10 Weak spread, can do decent shotgun damage but outclassed by Sanae B.
Sanae A: 7.5/10 Strong homing shot, good bomb, KANAKO-SAMA INSPIRED Solid but not the best.
Sanae B 9.5/10 Practically faultless, only lacking Reimu perks. Hits hard, great spread, etc.

Reimu A: 7/10 Good forward shot, but limited range and no shotgun potential. Effective survival bomb. Reimu B: 7.5/10 Strong homing shot, good range, not as good homing as MoF Reimu A, but it is still pretty good. No shotgunning here either, but at least she's got decent option formations going for her! Bomb is satisfying and flashy, but not very strong. Marisa A: 6.5/10 Best penetrating lasers ever, but in a game full of glowing bullets the options are pretty bad. Master spark is strong and useful for scoring, but collecting UFO's while bombing is hard to do on the fly Marisa B: 6/10 Cool shot with very good range, can even fire backwards for those noscope Vajra caps. Strong shotgunning makes up for an otherwise lacking damage. Bomb is totally uninspired though, doesn't feel very ultimate at all. Sanae A: 6/10 Strong homing, very easy to use shot. No shotgunning, very useful albeit boring bomb. But probably the easiest beginner shot to get first 1cc's with. Reminds me of Sakuya A from PCB a lot. Sanae B: 8.5/10 Solid shot, impressive range and shotgunning potential. Bomb is the stuff of legends! Great for scoring. Stuffing frogs up 2hus skirts has never been more awesome.

ReimuA - 8.5/10 She's strong and as usual, small hitbox. The hitbox really makes a difference in this game I find as well. It just feels like she can get away with so much more shit than the other shots can.
ReimuB - 7/10 Homing, and not a weak-ass one this time. She can actually kill things (wow!). She's pretty good on some sections where it can be normally pretty difficult to stay under the boss (eg. Ichirin's first two spells, Vajra, Murasa's third spell) and her damage isn't that terrible overall. She's pretty okay overall.
MarisaA - 10/10 Heaven is here inside my soul! You got to believe it!
MarisaB - 10/10 Bring it on down! Can't stop this feelin!
SanaeA - 5/10 Anyone else feeling the SanaeA meh?
SanaeB - 9.5/10 Great shot type, bomb is great for both grazing and rekking bosses, spread rips through stages, power is great when you can get close. Main gripe about her is that her focus shot only spreads at 4.00 power. Also she's not nearly as slick and cool as Marisa. I mean yeah Sanae's great and all, but once you see shin werk that Marisa grazebox you'll never look at UFO the same way again.

ReimuA: 9/10 - Really good shot, needles have the best up-front damage output and a pretty powerful bomb, and small hitbox. The bomb is actually one of my favorites for her, but the slowdown kinda sucks and with UFO summoning in mind, it's not very good for stages. Reimu's hitbox trades score for survival, as she's not very good at grazing, something very important in scoring in this game. Also, her spread is stupid.
ReimuB: 7/10 - I feel like I'm shooting tissues when I play with her, the range is nice, but the lack of power can sting sometimes, at least on bosses. Her bomb, unlike ReimuA's, is good at clearing the stage if you find yourself flooded in bullets.
MarisaA: 8/10 - Good shot, we got the last of piercing lasers and they were fantastic (the options they come from, not so much though). Master Spark is powerful and is quite wide so it has decent range, however, much like ReimuA's bomb, it slows you down, so you need to plan ahead to bomb effectively on stages. Marisa is fat, but that helps her score so I guess it's not all bad.
MarisaB: 5/10 - Not very good for survival, in fact she's the worst shot for that. Good for score, but I don't care for that.
SanaeA: 8/10 - Slightly better ReimuB, both her shot and bomb are stronger.
SanaeB: 10/10 - The best of this game, amazing shotgun power, still great from far away, and the range does wonders on stages. UFO too hard? just nuke everything with Wily Toad and you'll be fine (until you get to LFS at least)

Reimu-A - 7/10 - Nice solid shot type. Not too fond of the bomb- it makes me feel like I've completely lost control.
Reimu-B - 8/10 - Another nice solid shot type. Useful for clearing the map or when you don't want to pay attention to the boss. Nice mobile bomb type.
Sanae-A - 4/10 - Feels a little weak compared to Reimu-B. There doesn't appear to be a real use to going unfocused. The bomb feels weird... A snake background and nothing else? Just feels off to me.
Sanae-B - 8/10 - A really powerful shot type for both bosses and clearing screens. Nice bomb IMO. This feels like the best shot type for people who never die... But it feels bad for people who die a lot. Its effectiveness really seems to scale down at low power.

Reimu A: 8.5/10 Fantastic survival (with or without bombs) shot type but her scoring capabilities are a bit gimped. Still, unless you are good enough to make proper use for a Marisa shot you'd prefer Reimu A for score anyway. Small hitbox is a double edged sword, on one hand you can actually fit in the ichirin safespots (or dodge anything) more easily, but on the other you are less rewarded for it. Her narrow shot can be a bit of a pain, particularly for popping UFOs, and low power is very unwanted with this shot
Reimu B: 7/10 Arguably as good as Reimu A for survival apart from the bomb not being quite as useful, but in NB play they should be fairly comparable (I have a slight preference for A, though). I find it harder to pop UFOs with ReimuB.
Marisa A: 9/10 It's a shot-type to seriously consider if you are confident in your abilities. Biggest hitbox means highest chance to die, but on the other hand it also means the most graze. Master Spark is an excellent bomb, if you know what you are doing. Otherwise, enjoy popping ufos you don't want to pop or grabbing tokens you don't want to grab. Her pure damage is actually lower than ReimuB's, but the piercing lasers are a godsend in UFO, MarisaA is definitely the easiest character to manage UFOs with. The lasers obstructing your view is an extremely annoying design decision, but I'll stick with this rating because I figure you can get used to it.
Marisa B: 8/10 Awarding this shot an 8 is probably pretty telling of where my priorities lie. Don't worry, I acknowledge that she's awful for survival (consequently, good survival is a MUST to score well!) that's why I still give her less points than 3 other shots.
Anyway, her damage is clearly way too low, ass-waves is pretty much useless throughout the game, and the bomb has a very short duration and does little damage. Keep in mind however that the bomb, unlike SanaeB's, will not pop an UFO, so it gives you a bit more control, and having free access to grab any tokens on the screen during a bomb is a luxury that powerhouses like ReimuA and MarisaA lack. Once again, the bigger hitbox is either exactly what you want, or something you want to avoid, depending on what type of run you are doing or how confident and skilled you are.
Sanae A: 5/10
If there's a shot-type to avoid in UFO, I maintain that it's this one. She's not the best at anything, in fact, she's not a well rounded shot-type for any purpose either. However, I personally have a soft spot for SanaeA and her Bornham options, and even though she doesn't excel at anything, she is still OK to use, you don't really feel that underpowered using her. It's just that everyone else has a clear purpose and is better in some way, and SanaeA is among the worse at just everything she can do.
Sanae B: 9/10 There's two things that push SanaeB this high. The bomb, and her shotgun damage. Her damage is low from the bottom of the screen, and she can't graze as well as Marisa, but she is a total powerhouse for scoring runs if you have the survival down, and she makes a joke of the game when you go for a barebones clear. In NB play she's pretty shit though, but honestly, anyone who isn't a Reimu shot is unwanted in NB play (unless you really want to consistently pop red UFOS, then MarisaA might be ok)

Anyhow, my ratings: ReimuA: 8.5/10 Hits really hard. That's... pretty much all she has going for her, but it's amazing enough, really. Lack of spread or piercing can make stage sections a little annoying for her, but she destroys bosses really nicely. Her bomb hits hard, but its lack of mobility can be quite frustrating. I also find her annoying to use in the Ex stage, with Nue's UFO spells and all being quite troublesome for her. Smaller hitbox is nice, though in my experience, I find that hitbox size isn't really a very big deal in UFO when it comes to survival. ReimuB: 6.5/10 While not as good as MoF ReimuA, she's still really good for a homing Reimu shot. Unfortunately though, homing can be pretty annoying in UFO, since it restricts your control over where the shots can be directed to. Like watching your homing shots go everywhere except where you want them to be while your precious UFO carrying enormous quantities of items just flies away~ MarisaA: 9/10 Piercing may not be that special in previous games, but it's amazing in UFO. Lots of stage sections involve large clusters of enemies in which piercing is very effective at taking down. More importantly, lasers help a lot in ensuring that you can take down a UFO exactly when you want to take it down, which is extremely convenient. She still has great damage output against bosses too, beaten only by ReimuA. And she has a great time with Nue because she has no qualms about hitting Nue and a bunch of UFOs at the same time, thanks to piercing. Master Spark also has great power and range, but the lack of mobility (like ReimuA) really hurts. Also, it can take quite a while to get accustomed to those glowing options well enough to not let them mess with your visual ability to watch for glowing bullets. Still my favorite UFO shot. MarisaB: 3/10 I don't really care about score, so I find this shot to be just awful. Her damage output is really weak so she has a hard time killing even generics (except popcorn fairies). Back shot is useless except for very specific situations like Vajra, where it still doesn't hit too hard. She has a hard time killing UFOs, which is really troublesome. Even her bomb is really weak and has very short invincibility. Maybe she's good for scoring, but she's utter crap as far as survival is concerned. SanaeA: 7.5/10 Again, homing shots are annoying in UFO due to how it limits your control over UFOs. SanaeA's version is easier to manage than ReimuB's though, and she does hit harder. Her bomb is pretty solid too, providing her with mobility and sufficient invincibility in addition to decent damage output. Quite a solid shot type, but she still doesn't hit hard enough to wreck bosses. SanaeB: 8.5/10 Best Bomb in Touhou history. Ever. Yes, I know PCB Non-Directional Laser can hit harder, but SanaeB's bomb provides a really long period of invincibility while granting undeterred mobility. This is especially amazing when you factor in that her unfocused shot is a spread shot, and therefore dishes out amazing damage at shotgun range, making her bomb overpowered as hell. It's not just her bomb that makes her amazing. Spread is very nice for stages and splash damage is actually useful in a Touhou game, for once. Her focused shot, while it can't compete with ReimuA and MarisaA, is still quite solid... at Level 4. Lv3 SanaeB's long-ranged focused shot is as strong as Lv1 ReimuA and Lv2 MarisaA, which is especially frustrating because UFO takes away a stupidly huge -1 Power upon death. So if you find yourself dying a lot, especially during bosses, SanaeB becomes a real pain to use. At least she can bombskip the best. Also, I tend to have a hard time destroying UFOs with SanaeB, again mostly because her long-range shots don't hit hard enough. Still an excellent shot type and I can see why it's hyped so much. [Note: When I play Touhou, I generally find myself dying often with bombs remaining, especially in UFO where greed deaths are prevalent. As such, my UFO runs generally focus on red UFOs as opposed to green UFOs. This may have influenced my opinion of some shot types.]

I forgot to mention that SanaeB's damage output really blows when she's below 4 power, but I wanted to give out a 10 for a while and she's the chosen one! Bring it on down! Can't stop this feeling! (Really, some of ya'll have to use ReimuA and MarisaA, too. They're just as good, if not better, than SanaeB in quite a few regards. I'm just biased toward my waifu.)

TD shots, ugh.
Reimu - 8.5/10
Homing is weak but helps with generics and with bosses that you're not under, as usual. Focused shot hits for decent damage though, which is nice. Solid shot, for both stages and bosses. Decent Trance. Small hitbox is always great. Drawing spirits in during Trance sounds like it helps with scoring but eh... Fantasy Heaven is cool. She's actually my preferred shot type for TD, but she's not very spectacular.
Marisa - 8/10
Why did ZUN remove the piercing from her lasers? Just... why? Anyway, magic missiles hit pretty hard but her lack of range is pretty annoying. Master Spark dishes out great damage, but the lack of mobility is also annoying, especially since shotgunning bosses during bombs is important for spirit yield. Strongest Trance in the game, tied with Youmu, but the narrow range makes it less useful than Youmu's. Second-best Trance is still great!
Sanae - 7.5/10
Spread is nice for stages and for when you're not under the boss. And it can kill multiple enemies at once, unlike homing shots, making it slightly more useful. However, Sanae's damage output is not very impressive, whether unfocused or focused. She does have a lower spirit requirement for Trance, which means she should be able to Trance slightly more than other shots, but her Trance state isn't quite spectacular compared to other shots. Still not a bad shot.
Youmu - 8.5/10
Unfocused Youmu looks like MoF MarisaA, except she dishes out more damage, making her far better. Horizontal Myons aren't very useful though, tbh. Vertical Myons, however, make up the strongest long-ranged non-Trance shot in TD. Youmu's slash can be pretty annoying to use, but it dishes out GREAT damage at mid-close-range. Her slash is especially amazing at killing multiple large fairies at once. Her bomb is great, hitting hard and allowing her to shotgun for spirit yield. Finally, she has the best Trance, hitting as hard as Marisa but going wide instead of forward, allowing her to murder multiple large fairies at once. Youmu is an excellent shot, but she's held back by the fact that controlling her focused state can be really troublesome. You'll often want to focus for dodging purposes, but the charging would restrict your damage output. And the slash is really weak at long-range, so...

Reimu 8/10: Pretty solid all around. Her homing is great on stages and her needles are powerful against bosses. Her trance is pretty useful because it auto collects all spirits. Her damage per second is rather low though, and she doesn't score as high as Youmu can, but she's still a well rounded shot.
Marisa 7/10: Very strong trance. Good power. But she seems like a dumbed down Reimu for survival purposes. Not even any stronger than Reimu, bigger hitbox. Though she's good at scoring. (Also her replays desync)
Sanny 3/10: Useless shot. Her power is pathetic. She can't even finish off Yoshika's final spell card on Lunatic. Her bomb sucks. Her trance is weak and even though she fills up faster it doesn't really do her any good on scoring due to how bad the DPS is. There's nothing mighty about this character, as Zengeku says in his drunken TD let's play. She even scores the lowest, despite ZUN trying to make this shot geared towards trance usage.
Youmu 8/10: Best scorer in this entire game. Her slash can trivialize stages for the most part. This shot is kinda hard to work with though with the charge mechanics. Used for experts only!

Reimu: 8.5/10 Pretty strong! Can't go wrong with her! Homing + Persuasion needles together gets the job done well. Her bomb is on the weaker side, but eh, she's still solid.
Marisa: 8/10 Quite strong! Trance is OP (second only to Youmu) and Master Spark is of course a force to be reckoned with. Survival isn't too hot, though, due to her usual negative qualities. Still great.
Sanae: 3.5/10 Not that strong! As much as I love her, there's literally no reason to use Sanae over anyone in this game. She's the weakest DPS-wise, her spread isn't anything to brag about (makes TD's already simple stages easier, but eh), and Gray Thaumaturgy isn't a very strong bomb (only beats Reimu's). Yeah, she has the fastest trance gain, but her trance shotgun is also pretty weak! Wow, it's like ZUN is out to get me. I'd be happier if she was a good scorer, but she's not even that.
Youmu: 8.5/10 So strong! In the right hands, Youmu's DEVASTATING. That focused slash! That bomb! That trance shotgun! SO GOOD. She just takes a little getting used to, is all.

Reimu - 7/10
Reimu is certainly the easiest shot to use and she's a good choice if you don't want to learn much. Without bombs and trances, she might even be the best shot in the game. Her homing shot is as strong as it needs to be, her focused shot is really powerful, and of course she has the smallest hitbox. However, her bomb and trance are weak so she's not good at scoring. If you want to learn a really good trance route, then you're probably better off with Marisa or Youmu.
Marisa - 9/10
My personal favourite, as someone who has learned the game thoroughly. Planning your bombs is extremely important. Shotgunning with master spark is the fastest way to gain orbs during boss fights. If you know where all the hard parts are and where best to trance for resources, you can glide through the game without any problems. She's also really good for scoring. Not quite Youmu, but easy to learn.
Sanae - 1/10
I hope I don't need to explain. Her trance gauge does not fill up faster than other shots because she's so weak.
Youmu - 7/10
Possibly the best shot, but I'm not good enough to use her well. The sword slashes can skip some of the hardest parts of the game, such as the stage 5 spam. She has a strong trance and bomb and she's the highest scoring character in the game. But it's really hard to deal a lot of damage to the bosses.
