- I think that it should be about Touhou, if the majority votes nope, them I think we should at least have a round with Touhou stories. I mean, it’s pretty silly to ignore it since we’re in a thematic forum.
It needs to be about Touhou only. This forum is already hardly discussing Touhou at all compared to off-topic things, especially Nintendo related things, we need as much Touhou as possible. |

I would want it to be non-strictly Touhou. As in, anything that technically qualifies as Touhou fanfiction. Whether that's writing a real-world story with Reimu as a character, or a story set in Gensokyo with no other Touhou references, anything goes as long as it's somehow Touhou-based.
Abstract, or with a fair amount of wiggle room. Something like a novelization of one of the games, for example, just wouldn't necessarily be interesting to write for everyone. It's too strict.
Personally, I would prefer short. That would also decrease the number of people who end up too busy to actually write anything. I'd also suggest no minimum length. Poetry is a writing form too, and would generally be harmed by a minimum length requirement. Maybe 5000 words or less if there are multiple rounds.
2-5 days, depending on how busy I am and how well the subject works for me.
Scored and ranked, competition is always fun~ I would prefer that more than one person is involved somehow in scoring them, because of how subjective it is.
Yay, showing off~
Custom badges sound pretty cool. I'd just be in it for the sake of competing, though. Winning is its own reward.

I'm interested, and agree mostly with Kay on the questions. However, I also agree with Alicia that there shouldbe some non-Touhou part to the competition (mainly because I've never written touhou fiction before and it means I stand a chance >.>)

So we had a discussion about how the scoring may potentially work: (Credits to Arya, ZM, Alicia and Shadie for your contributions) Discussion process:

Okay i'll give an example.
Say if we have 3 participants, and each rank difference in points is three points. The ranks would go something like this:
1st: 6 pts
2nd: 3 pts
3rd: 0 pts
We get the judges to *rate* each entry, then average up all the ratings (out of something like 100 for the ease of comparison), then rank them from first to fifth.
So say if person A gets an average of 100/100 and person B gets 91.598/100 and then person C. Then first would be the person A and second would be the person B.
Then we get the voters to do the same thing. Say if the the voters vote person C for first then B then A. Then the scores look like this
Person A: 6 (judges 1st) 0 (voters 3rd)= 6 points for the round
Person B: 3 (judges 2nd) 3 (voters 2nd)= 6 points for the round.
[11:20:26 AM] Aki: How does that sound?
[11:21:02 AM] Aki: We get judges, and we get non-judges, both with equal power.

TL;DR version: We're getting judges to rate each entry in percentages, then we're averaging them up to a single number. We're also going to do the same for every non-judge that decides to review each entry (that being that we're averaging them all up to a single number). So we will have one percentage from all the judges, and one percentage from all the non-judges. (e.g. Say if the judges say entry A is 50/100, and the voters say it is 70/100. The points given for the entry for that round would be 120.) So, what does this achieve? 1. It promotes non-judge participation in the competition in terms of point scoring 2. It promotes diversity of opinion (i.e. Everyone's opinions matter, instead of just the judges) 3. It retains the moderating effects of having formal judges to promote validity of scoring. I hereby propose a second draft for the Scoring System, as this idea was met with favorable agreements between the organizers. The intention that lies behind the development from 1st idea to this idea is to promote the Non-judges' votes, while preventing the score from going biased if by any chance, life acts up and we end up with less votes than desired.
As this is a very important matter concerning the competition, we would like to receive replies on this. Constructive feedback, as always, is dearly appreciated. If you have further/private matters to discuss, please contact Arya or Aki via PM/IM at once.
This is by no means already decided. Your thoughts will help us in the deciding process <3

Scoring System Second Draft
Judges are to score the entry in percentage (JP). Ex: 50/100. With two judges scoring, one entry's JP will be the average of each judge's point for that respective entry.
Non-judges are to score the entry in 1-10 scale. 1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest. One entry's Non-judges Point (NP) will be the sum of each Non-judges' vote.
The final point of an entry will be the sum of JP and NP.
Example:
Person A's entry's point is to be calculated.
Judges No. 1 gives 70/100. Judges No. 2 gives 90/100. The JP for that entry will be 80/100.
Voter No. 1 gives 5/10. Voter No. 2 gives 10/10. Voter No. 3 gives 6/10. The NP for that entry will be 21 points.
The final point of that entry will be 80+21= 101 points.
