First Windows Era = Era of the Scarlet Devil Mansion: Since the mansion was the main area ventured in EoSD, the inhabitants of the mansion had a hugs impact on the series and are among the most popular characters. One that is notable is Sakuya, who later became playable in PCB, IN (along with Remilia), PoFV, and IaMP (along with Meiling, though she was patched in).
Second Windows Era = Era of the Moriya Shrine: It's a Moriya Shrine conspiracy! Ever since their debut in MoF, the inhabitants of the shrine are involved in some way with most of the games that follow. Sanae (<3) became the Extra midboss in SA and became playable in UFO, TD, and Hisoutensoku (along with Suwako).
Third Windows Era = Era of Kijin: Is it possible we'll see more of Seija? Perhaps.
