Note: This is the Archival Version of Cosmic Whispers, so that there is something between Melody From the Past and Beyond the Bounds. I'm ashamed of this story and included it because it seems to be popular for some reason, that and to keep up continuity. I will later turn it into a duology. As for this version, it remains untouched and unchanged.
Prologue
4 months after the events of Melody from the Past
Yoshiro sighed as he stood in his living room, "Come on, I'd like to head out before sundown." Elbereth walked down wearing Pegasus Knight armor, "I'm sorry, but I'm trying to figure out what to bring with me as I fly there with Tsuyoshi and Balthoron." Balthoron walked down the stairs, "Dad, why aren't you flying with us?" Yoshiro placed a white furred hand on Balthoron's head, "Because, kiddo, Julius and Minerva would freeze to death up there. It's in the tundra in winter, Pegasi are warm blooded, so your mom's mount will survive up there." Balthoron nodded as Tsuyoshi walked down with his usual attire, "Mother, Father, I would like to take Balthoron onto a shuttle up to the town in question, do either of you have any objections to this?" Elbereth shook her head, "You're responsible, Tsuyoshi."
Yoshiro shrugged and opened the door to see Sven standing out there, he looked dead tired, "I got Galina and I tickets, mind if we come?" Yoshiro sighed, "Look, Sven, as long as you're not driving anywhere, I don't mind. Just go with Tsuyoshi, alright?" Yoshiro sighed as he looked at the gear he was packing and Tsuyoshi frowned, "You're bringing your sword and shield to a reunion?" Yoshiro shrugged, "Armor too. I'm a Kensei, son, it's what I do." Yoshiro looked at Elbereth, "You be careful, my love." He gently grabbed her chin and kissed her on the lips, she returned the kiss, "You too, my sweet." Yoshiro smiled as Elbereth walked out the door, "Alright, Kids, I'm not going to lie to you here." Yoshiro looked at Balthoron, "Not a word of this to your mother."
Tsuyoshi sighed slightly, "Great, Father, what is it now?" Yoshiro looked at him, "Listen, there's an old saying, that goes: I'd rather have my sword and not need it, than need it and not have it." Tsuyoshi nodded, "Good saying, but Father, do you honestly believe you're going to need your sword, it's just a family reunion after all." Yoshiro shrugged, "Lilah's coming too, you might want to ask if I need an assassin as well. I'm not expecting anything to happen, but something you don't know about Kensei... we carry our swords with us everywhere. We're honor bound to do so, speaking of which, Killian should be here any moment now to give me a replacement to my old sword." Tsuyoshi nodded, "Very well then, Father. Balthoron, Sven, Galina, let's go."
Yoshiro watched as they left, but not before giving Balthoron a hug. He sat down on the couch and waited. After about ten minutes, there was a knock at the door, he called out, "It's open!" The door opened, and Killian wasn't there, instead, it was Amaterasu, "It's certainly been a while." Yoshiro nodded, "I'm just waiting for Killian to bring my sword over here, then I'm heading out for a month. It's been far too long since I've had a vacation." Amaterasu giggled slightly, "To be fair, Yoshiro, that is mostly your fault." Yoshiro sighed and looked up at the ceiling, brushing his gray hair out of his eyes, "I know, Grandmother. Is Masaru still pissed at me?" Amaterasu frowned and nodded, "Of course, Yoshiro. After everything you've done... you can't blame him. Also I heard about this reunion, your parents are going with Setsuko."
Yoshiro nodded and kicked his feet up onto the table, Amaterasu giving him a stern look and Yoshiro sighed, "Fine." He put his feet back onto the ground, "You coming as well?" Amaterasu shook her head and walked over to him, giving him a hug, "No, and I'm sorry. I love you, my grandson, but I need to stay here for a little bit longer." Walthari's voice spoke up, "Excuse me, but are we interrupting something?" Amaterasu turned over to see Walthari and Killian, "No, come in." Yoshiro stood up as Lilah entered the house as well. Killian walked over to him as Amaterasu let go of him, "Good day, Grandmother." Amaterasu nodded, "It is a good day, Killian." Killian nodded and looked at Yoshiro, "Here's your new sword, keep it on your back while you're on a bike and on your belt when off a bike. It'll last longer."
Yoshiro nodded as Walthari spoke up, "I'm going to be heading up there myself, if you don't mind." Yoshiro placed his hand on Walthari's cybernetic shoulder, "You're family, bro. You're welcome to come, just find transport for Lilah and yourself." Lilah began to protest as Yoshiro placed the sword on his back, "Wait, I have to go with him, why not with you?" Yoshiro sighed, "Lilah, I don't want to risk someone other than myself falling off my motorbike, alright?" Lilah frowned, "Alright, be careful though." Yoshiro put his helmet on and chuckled, "I always am." He walked out the door and climbed onto his motorbike with a sigh, he looked up at the sky, started the engine and laughed, it would be his first vacation in centuries. He removed the kickstand and started riding off towards his destination.

Chapter 1
Yoshiro had been riding for a day and a half when he finally entered the city he was supposed to be in. He stopped by a coffee shop and walked up to the counter placing some money on the counter, "Just a regular black coffee, please." The barista nodded and walked over to get his coffee, "We don't get many cross-breeds here." Yoshiro blinked, "You're a kilf, you are a half-breed." The barista laughed slight, "We're are half-breeds, but you're a full Kitsune, just half-arctic at the very least." Yoshiro sighed slightly as he too his helmet off, "The blue eyes gave it away, didn't they?" The kilf handed him his coffee, "That and your gray hair, a pure arctic kitsune would have brown eyes and white hair in the winter." Yoshiro nodded and drank his coffee, placing another ruby on the table as a tip, "Thanks for the coffee." The arctic kilf nodded, "You're welcome."
Yoshiro headed out and got onto his bike, but saw two kids pushing around a smaller kilf. He placed his helmet on the handlebar of the bike and stood back up, walking over to them, "Hey! You leave her alone!" One of the kids spoke up, "Why should we! She's a cross-breed!" Yoshiro grabbed one of them by the collars, "Because I can find your parents and tell them what you've been doing here. Maybe you won't listen to me, but you'll listen to them." The other boy turned around and looked at him, lifting his leg to kick him in the shin, "You're not my dad!" Yoshiro let go of the collar and moved out of the way of the kick, "No, but I can find your parents, their scent is on your clothing and trust me, you two can't do anything that hasn't been done before." One of the boys looked at the other one, "This man seems serious, let's go! We'll see you later, Alvina!"
The two kids ran off, and Yoshiro knelt in front of the Kilvish girl, "Are you alright." Alvina nodded, "Yes." Yoshiro frowned, "Come here." Alvina backed up, "You're a stranger." Yoshiro shook his head, "My name is Yoshiro Miyamae. I'm commonly known as the progenitor of the Kilvish peoples." Alvina blinked, "Wait, are you Grandpa's daddy!?" Yoshiro tilted his head, "Who's your grandfather?" Yoshiro looked at Alvina's face and realized immediately, but she told him anyhow, "Grandpa Tsuyoshi!" Yoshiro's face went blank as his mind tried to process the fact that he was a great-grandfather. Alvina frowned, "Are you alright, mister?" Yoshiro shook his head slightly, "I'll be fine, I'm Tsuyoshi's father, yes. I guess that I'm the great-grandfather that you've never met."
Alvina walked over to him and hugged him, "It's okay, Grandfather told me stories about you and how you're so brave." Yoshiro picked her up and looked at his bike, "Where do you live?" Suddenly the Barista spoke up, "What are you doing with my daughter!?" Yoshiro looked back, "She's your daughter?" He moved Alvina to one arm and extended his hand to the Barista, "I'm your grandfather-in-law then." The Barista shook his hand, "So you're the Yoshiro Miyamae, should've recognized you by your facial features and blue eyes. My name is Arthon, Alvina here is my daughter, it's good to meet you." Yoshiro nodded, "Likewise, mind if I stay a while?" Arthon shook his head, "Personally, I don't, but the manager might. Alvina gets to stay because it's take your daughter to work day."
Yoshiro nodded and carried Alvina into the coffee shop, he placed her down and looked at the manager, "Mind if I stay here for a bit, my grandson's one of your workers." The manager looked at him, "Do you plan on buying anything?" Yoshiro placed a sapphire on the counter, "I assume that this will cover the costs of a coffee for each hour I'm here." The manager frowned, "So you're planning to stay for four hours? Fine." Yoshiro nodded and Arthon started to open his mouth, but Yoshiro shook his head to say no, "Let it be, boy." Arthon nodded and Yoshiro sat down and took a book off the shelf, a coffee was brought to him and he drank it while reading. Alvina walked over to him, "Great-grandpa, how come you never come to visit before." Yoshiro looked at her from his book, "Came to visit, you mean. Well, I've always been busy."
Alvina frowned, "With what, Great-grandfather." Yoshiro placed his hand on her head and looked up at the ceiling, "How old are you?" Alvina frowned, "84 years old, I'll be 85 this week." Yoshiro nodded, "Being a father, Balthoron was born 85 years ago, you've probably already met him and he's probably said a lot about me." Alvina nodded, "He told me what happened six months ago, he said that you lost someone. Have you found them?" Yoshiro felt like a wound was torn clean open, his chest felt like it was completely empty. He thought he had moved on from Rogelio's death, but it just wasn't so. He tried to hold back his tears, but Alvina hugged him, "I'm sure you'll find him." Yoshiro hugged her tightly, "I didn't lose him in that way, sweetheart. He's, I don't know how to explain this, but he passed away."
Alvina frowned, "What did he pass away?" Yoshiro frowned and looked her in the eye, "He's given up the ghost." Alvina looked scared, "He let loose a ghost!?" Yoshiro sighed, "Alvina, listen to me, he's taking a dirt nap." Alvina frowned, "A bed is more comfortable though." Yoshiro sighed and started to think of other euphemisms, "He bought the farm." Alvina smiled, "So he's farming." Yoshiro shook his head, "He croaked." Alvina tilted her head, "So your best friend was a frog, great-grandpa, stop confusing me." Yoshiro sighed and just decided to go straightforward with this one, "He laid down his life so that I could continue living, Alvina. He's no longer amongst the living." Alvina frowned and hugged tighter, "I'm sorry, Great-Grandfather!"
Yoshiro hugged back, "It's okay, sweetheart, you didn't know." Alvina nodded, "So..." Yoshiro sighed slightly, "Arthon, I'm taking your daughter on a walk so we can catch up." Arthon nodded and Yoshiro picked Alvina up, "Come on, sweetheart, you can ask me anything you want. But I need to clear my head a bit right now so I'm going for a walk. Alvina nodded and Yoshiro carried her out of the coffee shop and he walked down the road with her, she was silent, but Yoshiro walked past an ice cream shop, "Hey, would you like some ice cream?" Alvina frowned, "That's for little kids." Yoshiro chuckled slightly, "Suit yourself, excuse me sir." He pulled out a few rubies, "Can I have vanilla ice cream, and please don't use a scoop you've used to get chocolate, I'm allergic to chocolate." The elf nodded and scooped up some Vanilla, as Yoshiro took the cone, Alvina frowned, "I want ice cream."
The elf looked at her, "What flavor do you want, little missy?" Alvina frowned, "Strawberry." The elf nodded and gave her a strawberry ice cream cone. Yoshiro paid for that as well, Alvina looked happy as she started to eat her ice cream at a far faster pace than Yoshiro. When Alvina was done, Yoshiro sighed slightly, "You got it all over your face, kiddo." Alvina frowned, "Why do you eat it slowly?" Yoshiro shrugged, "I haven't had ice cream since before Balthoron was born. I'm usually busy, either with my job or my off hours job." Alvina gasped, "What's your off hours job?" Yoshiro looked at the sky as he walked into a park, "I'm an adviser to your grandaunt Hiromi, your other grandaunt Harumi has been a leader for a long time so she can help out with helping Hiromi." Alvina nodded, "Mind if I play in the snow?" Yoshiro placed her down, "Stay where I can see you." Yoshiro smiled softly as Alvina played in the snow, he was reminded of his own childhood, when he would do the exact same thing.

Chapter 2
A hour and a half had passed since Yoshiro had first come to the park and Alvina seemed just as energetic as she did when they first arrived. He sighed and looked at his hand, however a voice spoke up, "General, mind if I sit here?" Yoshiro absentmindedly spoke, "I'm not a General anymore, also it's a public park. Sit wherever you want." The Arctic Kilf sat down, "Lovely day we're having, aren't we." Yoshiro looked at him, "Sir, no offense, but I'm watching my great-granddaughter play. I have no interest in pursuing a conversation with someone I do not know. Especially with someone that would be more interested in talking with the legend than the man." The Kilf sighed, "Fine then, let's talk with the man." Yoshiro placed his hand on his knee, "Choose your first question carefully."
The man spoke up, "Alright, Yoshiro. What's it like, being famous?" Yoshiro was slightly annoyed, but answered because the man didn't say hero, "Annoying, because people come to me, expecting that I have the panacea to everything that bloody well ails them." The man nodded, "I see, so then why do you help them." The corner of Yoshiro's mouth opened as he started to growl, the man sighed, "You really do need to relax." Yoshiro sighed and leaned his hand on his head, "I'd love to, but I'm sick and tired of everyone coming to me for help with things they can figure out. And if you come to me for something like that, I'll take my great-granddaughter to another section of the park." The man sighed, "People call you a great hero, and they come to rely on you, but you're annoyed at their over-reliance on you." Yoshiro nodded slightly, "Yes."
The kilf sighed, "I understand how you feel, Yoshiro. I'm considered a hero around these parts myself, people came to rely on me heavily." Yoshiro blinked and looked at the Kilf, he recognized the face, "Amondos, I've heard stories about you. People look at us as if we're some sort of deity and yet don't realize that we're naught more than men." Amandos laughed, "I know, they run us ragged. We need vacations from time to time, but it's always do this or do that." Yoshiro nodded, "When people work together, they have great strength. If only people would realize that, neither of us has ever worked alone, we've always worked in a group and it was the group that got the job done, not the person. But people will always look at the leader of that group, not the people who were part of that group." Amondos nodded slightly, "I agree, say, you recognize that Lupine?"
Yoshiro looked at the Lupine walking down the path, hands in his windbreaker, "Ah yes, he's my brother." Yoshiro leaned in and whispered to Amondos, "Listen, in a couple of years, I'm going to form the first branch of a group of mercenaries called the Raptors, if you're tired of being worshiped as a hero and want to show people that it takes a group to get something done, come seek me out in a couple of years." Amondos nodded and got up, "Thanks Yoshiro, and thanks for the talk. If you want to talk again, I'll be around here for the next month or so. I'm heading to the east after that, I have things I need to do over there." Yoshiro nodded as the kilf walked away and Walthari walked over to him, sitting down, "So who was that, brother?" Yoshiro smiled softly, "Just someone who knows what I'm going through from first hand experience."
Walthari nodded, "Alvina is full of energy, isn't she?" Yoshiro nodded, "Yeah, that she is, reminds me of us when we were young. Back before all of this, back before..." Walthari placed his hand on Yoshiro's shoulder, "Brother, you need to relax and not be so stuck in the past. You're a good man, Yoshiro, don't let yourself or anyone else tell you otherwise." Yoshiro looked at his gloved hand, "I know, but it just doesn't feel like it, you know. It feels like I'm just some terrible person for the choices I've made in my life." Walthari squeezed his shoulder slightly, "Listen to you moping about, you still got a long way to go before you give up the ghost, Yoshiro. Look at me, I'm a Lupine and a berserker at that, I was supposed to be dead by five hundred and our race usually meets our end in battle at eight hundred, our natural lifespan is supposed to be about a thousand."
Yoshiro grabbed his head as memories of Rogelio giving a similar speech flashed through his mind before he was shot and killed by Aiko. Walthari shook him slightly, "Yo, Yoshiro are you alright?" Yoshiro shook his head, "I have a slight case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder going on here, Walthari." Walthari blinked slightly, "Why's that, big brother?" Yoshiro sighed slightly as he pushed the memories back into the back of his mind, "Because that was almost word for word, the exact same thing that Rogelio said to me, ten minutes before he was shot and killed." Walthari nodded slightly, "I'm sorry." Yoshiro stood up from the bench, "Don't be sorry, there's no need to apologize for something you didn't know about. I'm not going to jump down your throat for an honest mistake, you of all people should know that, brother." Walthari nodded slightly, "So how do you plan on relaxing here?"
Yoshiro shrugged, "Find a hotel, get treated like one of the locals." Walthari shrugged, "Are you sure you don't want to be with the rest of your family. Tsuyoshi has a rather nice place that he's letting the lot of us use for a while, perhaps you could use that as a vacation home." Yoshiro shrugged, as Arthon walked over to them, "Grandfather, I brought your bike over here. Also sorry about how my managed treated you, I know that you're a great...." Yoshiro interrupted him, "I'm leaving before this conversation continues, tell your manager I said thank you, because I'm tired of being worshiped as some hero that will do everyone's work for them. Walthari, I'll see you at Tsuyoshi's place." Yoshiro waved to Alvina, "Your dad's here to pick you up, I'm heading off." Alvina nodded and ran over to him, hugging him, Yoshiro knelt down and hugged her, before letting go and walking back to his bike.
As Yoshiro got on his bike, he placed his helmet back on and started it up, he looked at the sky where he could see that dusk was starting. He looked down at this bike and sighed as he started to drive down the road, this time he drove just so that he could clear his head before he headed to Tsuyoshi's place. However, the weather decided to put a stop to that as it started to snow, Yoshiro sighed and turned towards Tsuyoshi's place. As he drove down the road, his mind began to wander, and think about what his life would be like if he had never killed Hiroshi, what kind of world he'd be living in and what kind of person he would be. He shook his head as he pulled into the driveway as he realized those kinds of thoughts would never become true. He turned off the bike and headed for the door, with a sigh, he entered the house and walked to a bed room, placing himself on a bed and closing his eyes for a nap.

Chapter 3
Sven walked through the streets of the city at night, it was unusually cold to him, but then again, unlike his family, he wasn't part arctic. He wondered how his mother felt, but knew that she was in a warm room, back at the house. He however heard a crunching of the snow behind him, "Lilah, I know you're there." Walthari spoke up, "Lilah wouldn't be so careless, Nephew. You seem bummed out ever since we got here." Sven sighed slightly, "Just, I feel like I'm drifting away from everyone. Uncle Walthari, do you know what it's like to be a Menschilche on Verbana, and a Vampiric one at that?" Walthari sighed and folded his arms, "Master Erasmus has said some good things about you, considering the Menschilche and the Dragons are enemies, that has to count for something."
Sven sighed, "Uncle Walthari, my own sister is diurnal, my parents are diurnal, my brothers and sisters are diurnal. My own girlfriend is diurnal!" Walthari shrugged, "Your point being, Sven?" The Vampire turned and glared at Walthari, "I'm different from all of you! It's almost as if I cannot co-exist!" Walthari scoffed, "Has your father ever told you what I am, Sven? Has he ever told you stories of what I have done on the battlefield?" Sven shook his head, backing off slightly from Walthari's tone, "No, he hasn't. What have you done?" Walthari looked at the full moon, "I'm a former berserker, boy. I used to almost literally tear people apart on the battlefield. It's even worse for me, because I had control, boy. People hated me for what I was, and the only ones that wanted to praise me were the Lupines, though I was raised by the Kitsune."
Sven sighed, "It's not the same." Walthari growled, "Of course it's not the fucking same, but you have the same four choices! You can sit here and bitch about your predicament for the rest of your life! You can off your self, and forever be branded a coward. You can accept it and just move on with your life. Or you can do like I did and do something about it!" Sven shook his head, "You don't understand, my condition is not something I can get rid of." Walthari shook his head and turned around, "You were made into what you are against your will, but you made the choice to pursue that vampire, to try to bring him to justice. I never got such a choice, I was born a berserker, I've lived my entire life as a berserker and only recently have, through hard work and meditation become a war monk. Like I said, you have four choices, pick one of them."
Sven watched Walthari walk off, he was upset at what Walthari had told him, but suddenly heard a voice speak up behind him, "What he said is true, baby brother." Sven turned around quickly to see the Kani Deity, Mariita standing behind him, "Leave me alone, big sister." Mariita sighed, "And what are you going to do if I don't get out of your way, you know that I'm stronger than you are, even as a vampire, baby brother." Sven went to strike her, but the Kani caught the punch and drew him into a hug, "No one can help you if you don't allow yourself to be helped." She sighed slightly, "You remind me a bit of Uncle Takeshi, really." Sven frowned, "Let go of me." Mariita shook her head, "I know you're not going to bite me, baby brother, so please stop." Sven knew she was right, he wasn't going to bite her, but he struggled and escaped the hug.
Mariita frowned slightly, "So you're going to refuse the help from your family?" Sven shrugged, "Most of them don't even care about me anyhow." Mariita frowned, "That's a lie and you know it, Sven. We love you very much, we just don't hear from you that often or in some of our cases, never." Sven sighed, "Why don't you take time from your schedules to try to talk to me when you're in Mus territory!? Or how about Galina who is starting to show signs of aging while I still look like I'm in my prime!" Mariita sighed, "Sven, some of our siblings are very busy and I generally stay around here, the Arctic Kani welcome me as if I was one of their own. It's a great feeling, even if my own biological mother doesn't want me around that often, but that's not the point, the point is that you need to take the initiative and start trying to contact our family more often."
Sven sighed and just walked past her, he walked onto a bridge and saw many of the Kilves go about their business. The snow wasn't coming down particularly hard, so it didn't really bother him all that much, he closed his eyes, "If people here found out what I am, they'd try to kill me." Before he could continue, he sneezed slightly and a female Kilf grabbed him, "Boy, you're going to catch your death out here! We need to get you inside!" Sven sighed and looked at her with his red eyes, "Ma'am, do you even have any idea what I am?" The female Kilf shook her head as she led him into a house, "Honey, I'm home and I brought a guest." Sven watched as a female arctic elf walked down the stairs, "Ah, welcome to our home, you're welcome to stay the night, Mr...?"
Sven raised his hand slightly, "Just call me Sven, Mr. Miyamae is my grandfather." The female elf nodded, "Alright, Sven. You eat regular food, right?" Sven nodded slightly as the female Kilf looked at him, "We know about you and how you're a vampire, but we're not sure if you only drink blood or not." Sven shook his head, "Mind if I watch some shows during the night, I'm nocturnal and all and don't want to be bored. Don't worry, I'll replace anything I eat and drink, I promise." The kilf shook her head, "Oh, don't worry about a thing, Sven. You're a guest in our house and we want you to feel welcome. Just don't have the volume up too high, alright?" Sven nodded and walked into the living room, where he turned on the holoprojector and started to watch some shows.

Chapter 4
Yoshiro woke up the next morning, he had slept terribly and didn't quite want to get out of bed. He sighed and did so anyhow, stripping down to his small clothes and entering the shower. As he turned the water on, he stepped in and laid his head against the wall as the water poured over him, the wounds were still quite fresh in his heart. He had dreamed of the faces of all the people that had died. He heard a knock at the door, "Excuse me, honey, can I come in?" Yoshiro spoke up, "Sure thing, Elbereth. I'm decent enough." Elbereth walked into the room, she looked at him, "Yoshiro, you look terrible right now. Everything alright, my love?" Yoshiro looked up into the stream of water and closed his eyes, "Not by a long shot."
Elbereth nodded and frowned, "Want to talk about it?" Yoshiro pointed towards the closet, "Can you hand me a towel?" Elbereth got Yoshiro a towel and he dried himself off thoroughly before stepping out and placing his hands on her shoulders, looking her in the eyes, "I'm still thinking about what Rogelio said to me in my dream once. I'm supposed to be the one that stands up when no one else will, I'm supposed to be the one fighting out there to bring hope to others and to protect them, but I'm not getting any younger. Pretty soon, I'm going to have to retire, because I'm getting older myself." Elbereth looked up at him, "Yoshiro, do you remember when we first met?" Yoshiro nodded as the two of them walked to their room and Yoshiro got dressed in his casual attire, "I remember. I didn't know you were a princess back then." Elbereth nodded and sat down on the bed, "If you had known, would you have tried to win my heart?"
Yoshiro looked out the window, "Of course, you were the most beautiful woman I ever laid eyes upon, Elbereth. I knew from that moment, I could never marry into my own race." Yoshiro leaned against the window sill, "You're smart, you take charge of a situation, you're always there for your friends and family and in that alleyway, you were willing to fight even though you were outnumbered. I jumped in, not to protect you, but to even up the score, I knew that you had no chance of winning on your own, the odds were too heavily stacked against you." Yoshiro felt Elbereth's hand on his shoulder, "That's why I fell in love with you, Yoshiro. You were never the kind of person to give up and you always felt that you should protect people. You never fought with the intent purpose to kill someone, you go out and do it to protect. Even six months ago, when I saw you filled with such terrible rage, you told me that you spared Aiko."
Yoshiro nodded and turned to hug her when he saw Balthoron and Alvina at the door, Balthoron looked at him, "Daddy?" Yoshiro cleared his throat and placed his hands behind his back, standing up straight to give the appearance of a great man to his son, "Yes, my son?" Balthoron walked in, "Are you and mommy fighting?" Yoshiro and Elbereth looked at each other absolutely confused by this and Balthoron spoke up, "I know what happened to Uncle Rogelio, but I don't want you and mommy to separate! I want us to be a happy family!" Yoshiro blinked slightly and looked at Balthoron, "You thought she and I were fighting?" Balthoron frowned, "Well yes." Elbereth walked over to him and picked him up, "Balthoron, my son, your father and I weren't fighting, we were talking. Your dad's going through a lot right now and I'm here to help him." Alvina frowned, "Something stinks."
Yoshiro smelled it too and it hurt his nose, "Excuse me, I've got to take care of this." He stormed angrily out of the room, "Walthari! What did I tell you about drinking in front of the young ones again!" Walthari poked his head out of his room, "Bro... keep it down, some people are still trying to sleep here." Yoshiro smelled Walthari's breath, "Sorry for accusing you of being drunk, you're sober as a stone." Walthari yawned slightly, "Try Sven, he was moping last night." Yoshiro sighed, "Thanks for telling me Walthari." Walthari nodded slightly, knowing that Yoshiro wasn't upset at him, "No problem." Yoshiro followed the scent of Alcohol until he walked up to Sven's room, he knocked on the door, "Sven, may I come in?" Sven spoke up, "Yes... you may come in, Father."
Yoshiro opened the door to see bottles of booze sitting on the floor, "Drinking isn't going to solve your problems, son." Sven looked at the bottle of beer in his hand, "Of course it isn't, I can't even get drunk anyhow." Yoshiro sighed slightly, "How many have you had?" Sven looked around him, "In the past hour? Four. Since I started, twelve." Yoshiro sighed, "By the grace of Amaterasu, son. You need to stop drinking and tell me what's wrong." Sven sighed, "You don't love me." Yoshiro facepalmed, "Sven, you're my son, I love you, I will always love you. Even though I'm disappointed in you right now, I still love you." Sven frowned, "How come you never visit?" Yoshiro sighed, "Son, you know that I'm a busy man. I don't know when you're going to be available or not. If you were to call me up, I mean for goodness sake, you know my frequency, it hasn't changed in two hundred years."
Sven curled up and placed his head on his knees, "So... you're saying that it's my fault?" Yoshiro shook his head, "It's neither of our faults, Sven. We're family and we're far apart. The only reason I'm up here right now is that I got contacted by my granddaughter who wanted to meet me." Sven nodded, "It's part of why I came to your place, I wanted to see you again and I heard you were heading out." Yoshiro nodded and hugged his son, holding his breath as the stench of alcohol was becoming overpowering for him, "I love you, son." Sven nodded, "I love you too, daddy." Yoshiro broke the hug, "Get some sleep, Sven, we'll be fine. I'll talk to you later tonight, I promise." Sven nodded, "I look forward to it, Daddy." Yoshiro smiled and walked out of the room, gently closing the door, good night, my son."

Chapter 5
On the other side of the city, Akira woke up in the guest bedroom of a house, it had been a while since he had come here and he was more than happy to visit his own parents. Minako looked at him, "Good afternoon, my love." Akira blinked, "Wait, afternoon! How long did I sleep?" Minako smiled, "I let you sleep as long as you needed, our daughter is with your parents if you're wondering." Akira nodded, he got up and felt immediately sore, "I need to start relaxing more, honey." Minako frowned, "Why, what's wrong?" Akira patted himself on the chest, "I'm getting old, I'm nearing eight hundred years old." Minako nodded, "You should relax more, but you know that Alvina's birthday is still this week, correct?" Akira nodded and his ears perked up as he heard Yoshiro's voice speak up, "Setsuko, please give that back."
The couple turned to see the young female kitsune dart into the room and Yoshiro turn the corner too fast and slam into the doorframe, "Son of a! Setsuko, give that back to me, now!" Minako looked angrily at Yoshiro and then looked at Setsuko, she gasped when she saw what she had taken from Yoshiro, "Give that back, sweetie and go to time out." Setsuko frowned, "I don't wanna." Yoshiro growled while pinching his nose which had started to bleed, "Setsuko, you have two choices, you can give that back or I can take it back and I'd rather not have to steal something back from my own little sister today." Setsuko looked at the amulet and threw it at Yoshiro, she was clearly upset, "Take it! I don't want it anyway! It's a stupid thing anyhow!" Yoshiro caught the amulet and put it around his neck, "It's the last thing I have to remember an old friend of mine. Anyhow, Dad, I'm going to go talk to grandma and grandpa, see if they can't watch over Balthoron while I take Elbereth out to a romantic dinner tonight."
Akira got out of bed and Yoshiro smirked, "You know Dad, it's illegal to be walking around in your smallclothes around here." Akira frowned, "Sometimes I wish you were a little boy again, that way you wouldn't be a smartass." Yoshiro shrugged slightly and walked out of the room, leaving Akira to get dressed. Akira kissed his wife, "I'm going downstairs and going out on the town, it's been a while since I've seen my youngest sibling. I'd ask you to come with, but with Yoshiro and Elbereth going out, Mom and Dad are going to need some help with our daughter and grandson." Minako nodded and kissed him back, "I understand, my love." Akira smiled and walked out of the room and downstairs where his parents were waiting, he hugged both of them, "Mom, Dad, I'm going to go see my brother, Minako is going to stay behind to help you out."
The two of them nodded and waved him off, Akira walked out of the house and started down the road. He felt a bit nostalgic as he grew up in this area, before it became a Kilvish settlement, back when it was purely a Kitsune city. He wished that the Kilves were around when he was young, or that the Arctic Elves lived in the city, but it wasn't so. He was happy that his hometown had come a long way. As he walked down the streets, he noticed a lot had changed, but when he turned down a certain street, he noticed that he was in the neighborhood he was told about in the letter he had gotten. He looked for the house number and when he found it, he walked up the the door and knocked on it. He waited for a couple of moments, but a female walked to the door, "Akira! It's been so long!"
Akira blinked slightly, "Excuse me? I don't think we've met." The female frowned, "Our parents named me Satoshi when I was born." It took Akira a moment to process this information, "You're my sister now?" The female Kitsune nodded, "Please, call me Maiko." Akira hugged her, "Alright, Maiko. May I come in?" Maiko nodded, "Of course." As Akira walked into the house, he heard Maiko come out, "Hey, Kazuki, come meet your brother-in-law." Akira watched as a male Kitsune came out to greet him, "Hi there." Akira was shocked that this was a forest kitsune from the same region that Minako was from, "It's nice to meet you. Though I'll be honest, it's a bit of a pleasant surprise to find out that I've got a sister. But I love her all the same, so your letters mentioned a child." Maiko nodded and led Akira upstairs to a room where she motioned towards a child that seemed to be alone and shy.
Akira frowned slightly, "He has no siblings?" Maiko shook her head, "None, and he doesn't really talk to new people." She turned towards the child, "Hotaka, your uncle has come to visit you." Hotaka looked at Akira and frowned, withdrawing a bit, Akira looked at his sister, "Stay with me, it'll make it easier for him to grow accustomed to me if someone he trusts is here." Maiko whispered, "How do you know?" Akira sighed, "Yoshiro was like this at Hotaka's age." The two older Kitsune walked into the room and sat down, Akira looking at his nephew, "You remind me a lot of my eldest son when he was your age." Hotaka frowned, "Are you really uncle Akira?" Akira nodded slightly, "Yes, I am. It's good to finally meet my nephew. You've probably heard stories about Yoshiro, but when he was your age, he was just as timid and shy as you are."
Hotaka frowned, "Heroes are never timid." Akira sighed slightly, knowing full well how much his son hated to be called a hero, but also knew that he had to play along to earn Hotaka's trust, "Heroes aren't always brave. What makes a hero is their heart and you have a good one from what I hear. Someday you'll be a great hero, just like my son." Hotaka withdrew a bit, "I don't wanna be just like him. I wanna save people." Akira nodded slightly, "And you will, I promise. Your first step in becoming a hero is warming up to your family, like me." Akira held his arms out for a hug and Hotaka slowly and cautiously walked towards him. Eventually he reached Akira and the two of them hugged, "Uncle Akira, will you tell me a story about my cousins?" Akira smiled slightly, "Of course, though with your mom's permission, you can meet some of them."
Akira looked at Maiko who frowned, "Only if I come with him, big brother." Akira nodded, "Of course, little sister, he trusts you the most and like I said, without you, he'd become a nervous wreck." Akira let go of Hotaka, "Go get ready and we'll take you to your cousin, Tsuyoshi's place where most of everyone is waiting." Maiko sighed slightly as Hotaka ran off to get ready, "You really did have a shy kid like my own son." Akira nodded, "Of course, little sister. Look, it's not really that big of a deal, they're usually fine so long as someone they trust is near them. You get ready as well and I'll take you to Tsuyoshi's place. I forgot who all is there, but I know Walthari is still there." Maiko nodded and left Akira in the room alone, Akira walked out of the house though and waited for the two of them to walk out. When they finally did, he started to lead them towards Tsuyoshi's house, happy to spend time with his sister and nephew.

Chapter 6
Yoshiro and Elbereth sat down at a fancy restaurant, Yoshiro was in a tuxedo of sorts, but he didn't seem to be too bothered by it. Elbereth was dressed in her nicest dress, she did get a little suspicious though, "Yoshiro, you hate dressing like this, why are you doing this?" Yoshiro took her hand and looked into her green eyes, "Elbereth, I love you, I always have loved you since the day I laid eyes upon you. But I thought that being born a noble wouldn't allow me to marry a princess like yourself. But you chose me to be your lover, you made me into a prince and later a king. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I want to spend my days with you. I'm tired of running around all over the place just because other people will me to do so, I'm tired of doing it without you. I know you've been learning how to fight, because you want to be with me out there."
Elbereth looked down, "I get so worried about you when you're out there on your own, my love. Whenever you go out, someone dies and I get worried that will be you someday. Remember the stresses of being a king, how they wore you down, well how do you think I feel every time you go off on your own to fight in a war, who knows where?" Yoshiro looked down at the table as the waiter came to them, "What will sir and madam be having to drink tonight?" Yoshiro sighed slightly, "Just give me a water and some bread. Whatever my wife wants, I'll pay for it personally." Elbereth cleared her throat and whispered to the waiter, who nodded and walked away, "Look, I know you're doing this for me, Yoshiro, but let's go out. I know that there are better places to have a date." Yoshiro nodded and stood up, wrapping his arm around Elbereth's shoulders, as the two of them walked out of the restaurant, "Where do you want to go?"
Elbereth whistled and her Pegasus landed on the ground near them, Elbereth climbed on and whispered in the Pegasus' ear before offering her hand to Yoshiro. Yoshiro took the hand and climbed on, the Pegasus flew off to a hill that was at the edge of town, "Let's stay here and watch the stars." Yoshiro arched a brow, "Are you sure, my love, it gets brutally cold during the winter, but I'm sure that I can start a fire to keep the two of us warm." Elbereth nodded and Yoshiro grabbed some tinder from a nearby tree and started to pat himself down, trying to find his gun, but couldn't find it, "Of all the times I leave the house without my pistol." Elbereth looked tired, "Yoshiro, I'm feeling a bit tired all of the sudden." Yoshiro knew what this meant and it wasn't at all good, he tore his jacket off and put it on her, "Listen to me, you need to stay awake."
The Pegasus whinnied and Yoshiro helped her onto the Pegasus, before climbing on himself, Elbereth looked at him, "Wh-what are you doing?" Yoshiro looked at the Pegasus, "Listen, I know you usually listen to her, but I need you to take us to a hospital, she's going through stage one hypothermia." The Pegasus didn't even waste any time at this, Elbereth felt cold to the creature and thus it took off, Yoshiro carefully held Elbereth on the flying mount, occasionally giving her a gentle, yet firm slap on the cheek to keep her awake. When the Pegasus landed, Yoshiro picked Elbereth up and slid off of it, hitting the ground running and darting into the hospital. He looked at one of the orderlies, "She's going through hypothermia!" The orderly brought out a stretcher and Yoshiro placed Elbereth on it.
They rushed her to a hospital room where they started to gently heat her body back up, Yoshiro holding onto Elbereth's hand, despite the fact that she didn't seem too lucid at the time. When she did finally regain lucidity, she looked at Yoshiro, "What... what happened?" Yoshiro sighed slightly, "Elbereth, because I couldn't make a fire, I was unable to keep you warm. I can survive out there in the cold of the arctic winter night, but you cannot." Elbereth nodded, "So you rushed me to the hospital, huh?" Yoshiro smiled and gave her a kiss on the lips, "Elbereth, I love you, I would do anything for you. I mean this is far from the way I thought this date was going to go, but I'm just glad right now that you're okay." Elbereth stroked his cheek and looked into his eyes, "You do worry about me, huh?"
Yoshiro chuckled, "You found me out, I do worry about you and the rest of the family. I worry about our kids every time I go out there on my own. I don't want to leave you without a husband or our kids without a father. I think about you every moment of every day that I spend in some battle or some war. You mean everything to me, Elbereth, without you or our kids, I'd be some incomplete mess. It's part of the reason I wish to form my own mercenary group, that way I don't have to take orders from some king and go fight a war that I don't want to fight and be away from you, and yet when the time comes I can still go out there to protect the lives of innocent civilians." Elbereth closed her eyes, "I guess there's no changing you, but to be honest, that's the entire reason I fell in love with you." Yoshiro nodded, "Elbereth, get some sleep, I'm going to get some myself. Elbereth smiled and nodded as Yoshiro closed his eyes, the two lovers fell asleep, while holding hands.

Chapter 7
Yoshiko sat on a hill alone during the night, looking up at the lights in the sky that she had come to know as an aurora. They were very beautiful and she wished that Cornelis could be here to see them for himself, but she knew in her heart that he had died long ago. Her long gray hair flowed in the wind as she wrapped her arms around her knees and rested her chin on them, "It's been a hundred and thirty years since I've come to this planet... and two hundred and fifteen years since I was cloned, I've come a long way." She took one of her fingers and started to draw in the snow, she drew Cornelis' face from memory and sighed longingly to see the man who created her once more." Suddenly she heard a voice that she recognized, "What are you doing here, kiddo?" Yoshiko didn't turn away, "Takeshi, I could ask you the same thing."
Takeshi sighed slightly and placed his hand on his hip, "Well, Dad told me about how you left the house and I figured that you'd follow Yoshiro, he seemed to be coming here for a vacation and to spend time with his family. Dad wanted me to see what was going on." Yoshiko frowned, "I know you're concerned about me, half-brother." Takeshi nodded, "Of course, with Aiko gone who knows where and Hiroshi dead... twice, you're the only sibling I have left and I don't want to lose you." Yoshiko frowned, "What about Yoshiro and the others, you're Minako's son, aren't you?" Takeshi placed his hand on her shoulder, "Biologically, you're her daughter. Also Yoshiro and I haven't quite seen eye to eye after that whole incident months ago." Yoshiko remembered the war and the subsequent trial, but she didn't know of what happened after that, "What happened between you two, I thought you had forgiven him."
Takeshi shrugged, "He chose his path and honestly wants little to do with me right now, all I can do is respect his decision." Yoshiko nodded slightly, "I understand." She brushed her hair out of her eyes and looked up towards the stars, "When I first came here, I had just learned that I am a clone, I was created artificially from Kitsune DNA, not just any Kitsune, but his..." She leaned back slightly and just sighed, "I had come here, expecting him to kill me, in my eyes, I was just a cheap copy. He however saw me as my own person and he was right. Mom always loved me and was always there for me, then I became part of the larger family when Grandmother adopted my Mother as her own daughter. Mom was extremely grateful for that and I never saw her more happy in her life, she was happy that I'd have a family here on Verbana, but I keep thinking about the past, where I grew up." Takeshi sighed slightly, "Well on that front, I have some bad news and I have some good news."
Yoshiko looked at the ground, "What's the bad news?" Takeshi looked up at the skies, "Five entire factions went dark during the Human-Verbanan war. Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpius and Cancer were all reportedly wiped out by the Leo Faction." Yoshiko sighed sadly, "And what's the good news?" Takeshi shrugged, "Well the world you grew up on is safe and has broken away from the Menschilche race, they have started to move on a different evolutionary path." Yoshiko nodded slightly, "I see, and the scientists that created me?" Takeshi frowned, "They all died of old age, Yoshiko. They weren't young when you were born to begin with and it's been two hundred and eleven years since your creation." Yoshiko nodded slightly, "I'm going to go for a walk." Takeshi sighed, "Sis, are you going to be alright?" Yoshiko stood up and shook her head, "I don't know at this point."
Yoshiko walked into the city itself and sighed slightly, she knew that everyone that she grew up with aside from her mother was dead deep down, but Takeshi had confirmed it. It hurt her deeply, but she didn't cry as she remembered Cornelis telling her that big girls do not cry. Yoshiko walked into a cafe and sat down, a young Arctic Kitsune male walking over to her, "Excuse me ma'am, but the cafe is closing, you're going to have to leave." Yoshiko looked at the young man, "Alright." The young man looked at her, "I'm sorry to do this, even though you're the most beautiful Kitsune I've ever met." Yoshiko nodded slightly and exited the cafe, she walked through the streets, which were empty, leaving her to her thoughts alone. Suddenly she heard a man's voice, "Hey, get in here, you'll catch a cold out there." Yoshiko turned to see an older Arctic Kitsune in a house, she shrugged as she had no where else to go except back home, so she walked up to the man who looked at her, "Minako, I think you should come see this."
Yoshiko watched as Minako came to the door, "Father-in-law, that's Yoshiko. She's my niece." Yoshiko smiled slightly, "Hi, Aunt Minako." Minako smiled softly, "Please, come in dear." Yoshiko nodded and walked into the house, she felt warmer almost instantly, "Thank you, Aunt Minako." The elder Kitsune smiled, "You're the clone of Yoshiro, huh? It's nice to finally meet you, I'm Sadao, I guess because of adoption, I'd be your great-uncle." Yoshiko nodded slightly, "Please don't call me Yoshiro's clone, sir. I'm his cousin, I'm my own person." Sadao nodded slightly, "Alright, Yoshiko. Make yourself at home, we have several guest rooms if you would like to stay in one." Yoshiko smiled softly, "Thank you, sir." Before Yoshiko could move, Balthoron came to investigate, "Miss Yoshiko!" Yoshiko smiled slightly as she saw Balthoron, "Hi there." Balthoron walked over and hugged her and she hugged back, "This is the first time I've seen you in decades. You've grown so much."
Balthoron smiled, "Is Miss Yoshiko going to stay here for a while?" Yoshiko looked around and then nodded, "I came to the north to clear my head and hopefully get some answers, I'll be more than happy to stay around here." Balthoron smiled and hugged tighter, "Yay! You're the best, Miss Yoshiko!" Yoshiko patted him on the head, "Balthoron, I need to get ready for bed, it's late and I really haven't had much sleep lately." Balthoron nodded and let go with a frown and Yoshiko smiled, "Listen, tomorrow, I promise that I'll spend time with you. You're my cousin's son and that means you're family to me." Balthoron smiled, "Okay!" Yoshiko was led to a guest room by Sadao, who looked at her, "This is where you can sleep, alright. Like you said, you're family, take all the time you need." Yoshiko nodded, "Thank you." She walked into the room and closed the door behind her, then walked over to the bed, laid down and quickly fell asleep.

Chapter 8
Takeshi walked through the streets of the city, holding a device that was leading him to a power signature, he felt bad that he had deceived his step-sister, but his mission was of the utmost priority. He was given this mission by Masaru to find out what this strange energy signature happened to be, as he approached the energy signature, a familiar voice spoke to him, "Well well, my older brother. To what do I owe this pleasure?" Takeshi looked behind him, surprised, "Aiko, I heard that you were dead." Aiko shrugged, "Yoshiro chose to spare me, so what are you doing here, I hear that the Forest Kitsune have no jurisdiction here and it's not every day that the newly appointed head of the Kitsune Army is sent out to look for something." Takeshi growled, "My mission is classified, Aiko." Aiko frowned, "You're no fun, big brother."
Takeshi sighed, "I'm not here for fun, I'm here to do a job, if you want to play, play with Yoshiro." Aiko laughed, "Yoshiro kicked my ass and gathered an army from Eltirana in order to defeat my own, or did you forget that during his court martial. Yes, Takeshi, I have spies in the Kitsune Military, I know everything that's going on, including your little mission." Takeshi growled and drew his weapon, "What's stopping me from killing you!" Tsuyoshi's voice spoke up, "I am, if you fire that weapon within the vicinity of this city, or within the confines of the kingdom, you will be committing an act of war. Aiko here is a citizen of this area and works as the head of the King's spy network." Takeshi sighed, "So, you've set this entire thing up, Tsuyoshi, well done, my nephew." Tsuyoshi used a finger to adjust his glasses, "You are here to investigate the strange energy readings, correct?"
Takeshi looked down at the device in his hand, "What about it?" Tsuyoshi held out his hand and pulled a weapon on Takeshi, "Since you are currently invading the Arctic Kitsune Kingdom, as you are on an official non-diplomatic mission from Masaru, I'm going to have to ask you to hand over the device. Your only other option is to be killed, I'm sorry." Takeshi handed the device to Tsuyoshi and Tsuyoshi placed it into his pocket, "Thank you, now I wouldn't bother trying to investigate it, you can't open the facility anyhow." Takeshi crossed his arms, "Why not?" Aiko spoke up, "Because it only responds to the energy signature of Draconic technologies, which only one person on this planet currently has at the moment. I hear that it's going to become more widespread in the future." Takeshi sighed, "Well fuck, if Yoshiro is the only one that can open it, then how do we get him to do so?"
Tsuyoshi shook his head, "You will not get my father to do anything, unlike you, he's a guest of the city and can legally bludgeon you." Takeshi growled, "So he gets diplomatic immunity and I don't!?" Aiko laughed hard at this, "Yoshiro doesn't have diplomatic immunity, you dumbass. He's just not a military officer trying to sneak their way into this kingdom to find some Draconic technology that we don't know what it does. By the way, now that you know what it is, go crawl back to Masaru." Takeshi growled, and stormed off, he was going to do no such thing, he was going to find out what was in that base because he was ordered to. He didn't care exactly what he'd have to do to do so, he just knew that whatever was in there was interesting his king and he needed to find out what it was and deliver it to him.
Takeshi didn't get exactly too far when another voice spoke up to him, "You sense it, don't you." Takeshi looked around and saw Maritta standing there, "What do you want?" Maritta sighed and placed a hand on her hip, "Simple, for you to understand that things are changing, Masaru still wants Aiko and is doing all that he can do to find her. In the process, he's going to hurt Reiko and that's going to cause a massive war later on." Takeshi frowned and shook his head, "Bullshit, and let me guess, I'm the one that's going to end up causing this war." Maritta shrugged, "Who starts it, I'm not allowed to tell you. All I know is that before this century is up, the Forest Kitsune kingdom will be embroiled in war once more. However, you can do something to stop this from happening." Takeshi snarled, "Alright, I'll bite. How!?"
Maritta sighed and extended her arm to the Forest Kitsune Kingdom, "You overthrow the king and let Goro take over. Otherwise, a second civil war will occur, and this time, Masaru's allies will join with Goro to stop Masaru." Takeshi frowned, "You speak treasonously, Kani!" Maritta walked up to him, "You forget two things, one. I'm the deity of war, this is my domain to know of wars that are going to happen, when, where and why. Two, I'm not a Kitsune Citizen, I cannot commit treason against Masaru, Takeshi." Takeshi nodded, "Fine, you win, you won't be killed for treason." Maritta shrugged, "What you do with the knowledge I have given you is up to you, but I will warn you of this. If you choose to fight my father in two days, my father will win. You've aged quite a bit and have not seen any actual combat in hundreds of years, you're a general, not a warrior anymore."
Takeshi growled, "I will defeat Yoshiro, even if it kills me!" Maritta walked closer, "Takeshi, listen to me, I'm trying to keep peace here, I'm trying to keep you from throwing your life and the life of hundreds of thousands away. If your own loyalty blinds you so greatly that you cannot see the truth in front of your own two eyes, there is no point in trying to get through to you. I'm done with talking to you, you have two choices. Heed my warnings and make the future a better place, or ignore my warnings and the future will remain as I have foreseen it." Takeshi folded his arms as Maritta walked off, he didn't care about what the Kani Deity said to him, he only really cared about his mission and he hoped that he would complete it soon.

Chapter 9
Yoshiro arrived back at the house without Elbereth, she had sent him back to Tsuyoshi's place because the two of them had gotten a call from Tsuyoshi earlier that day. No sooner did he walk into the door of his home did Sven come out of the room, "You promised you'd talk to me when night came around." Yoshiro looked at Sven and placed his hand on his son's shoulder, "I know, my son, but your mother came down with Hypothermia, she's at the hospital if you want to see her." Sven frowned, "I know you're not one for lying, but I can't believe you until I see it for myself." Yoshiro nodded, "Alright then, I'll call a cab and take you over there. I need to see your older brother right now though, he had a message for me, where is he?" Sven sighed, "He's in the kitchen, right now, Dad." Yoshiro nodded and patted Sven on the head, "Get a little sleep, this could take a bit."
Yoshiro walked into the Kitchen and saw Tsuyoshi sitting at the table, "I'm glad you're here, father." Yoshiro nodded slightly, "You made it sound urgent, son. What's going on." Tsuyoshi motioned towards a chair with a sigh, "You will want to sit down." Yoshiro nodded and sat down as Tsuyoshi leaned back, "So, you hear the news about the Kitsune kingdom?" Yoshiro nodded, "Shortly after I was discharged, Takeshi was approached to be the leader of the Kitsune Army. It seems that without one of Mom's children, they'll be helpless. It's the main reason Takeshi and I had a falling out recently." Tsuyoshi nodded, "Well he's here, and he's on an official military mission." Yoshiro folded his arms, "So it's finally come to this, huh. I guess I'll be moving out of the Kitsune kingdom again." Tsuyoshi nodded, "You're always welcome to live here." Yoshiro shook his head, "I'm going to talk to Bruno, see if I can't set up a small nation within the mountains."
Tsuyoshi blinked, "Why are you going to go and do that, I thought you were done with being a monarch?" Yoshiro shook his head, "I've studied the humans a bit during the last couple of months and they have a system of government that I would like to try for Verbana." Tsuyoshi shook his head, "Surely you don't mean communism." Yoshiro shook his head and folded his arms, "No, I'm going to set up a republic, specifically a democratic republic. It's something that caught my attention, a system of government that is for, of, and by the people, Or more accurately in my case, for, of, and by refugees and mercenaries seeking a new home." Tsuyoshi nodded, "It'll be great to see how it works, but do you honestly know how you're going to run this yet?" Yoshiro shook his head, "No, now, what else did you want to tell me about what's going on."
Tsuyoshi showed a map to Yoshiro, a location on it was marked, "There has been energy spikes in this region. As far as we know, this is a Dragon base and can only be opened up with draconic technology, which lies within your armor." Yoshiro nodded slightly, "According to this, it's at the base of the mountain on the other side. Think we can snowboard down there?" Tsuyoshi blinked, "Excuse me, Father?" Yoshiro pointed to a cable car system that led to a ski resort that was closed for right now, "It would take far less time to take the cable car to the summit of the mountain and snowboard or skii down than it would take to drive around the mountain. Especially since my bike doesn't have snow tires." Tsuyoshi nodded, "That's true, but wouldn't it be even faster to fly?" Yoshiro shook his head as Balthoron walked into the room, "Daddy, big brother, what are you talking about?"
Yoshiro sighed slightly and stood up, walking over to Balthoron and picking him up, "We're talking about grown-up things, Balthoron. You're a good kid, but you wouldn't understand a lot of what's going on right now. Don't worry, I'll be sending you with Sven and Galina to see your mother, alright?" Balthoron nodded, "Okay!" Yoshiro hugged his son, tightly and placed him on the ground, "I love you, Balthoron." Balthoron smiled and hugged back, "I love you too, Daddy!" Yoshiro broke the hug and got on his radio, he pushed to the frequency of the local taxi service, "Yes, can you bring a taxi to Tsuyoshi's estate. There will be three passengers and the destination is the local hospital." Balthoron looked up at him, "What happened to Mommy?" Yoshiro smiled and knelt, "Your mother just needs a little more bedrest before she can come home, Balthoron, and seeing you will raise her spirits." Balthoron nodded and ran out of the room as Yoshiro looked at Tsuyoshi, "See them off, I'm going to go get my armor and weapons."
Yoshiro walked up to his room and as soon as he placed his hand on the locker that contained his armor, he felt like someone was behind him, so he turned around, to see nothing was there, "My brain is playing tricks on me, great." No sooner did he turn around to look at his locker, did he see something that astounded him, it was a little girl with green hair and green eyes. Yoshiro recognized draconic features immediately, "You... you're..." The little girl spoke up, "I'm your granddaughter, yes." Yoshiro blinked, he couldn't believe it, this girl looked like a forest elf, except with draconic eyes, "Who... who is your parent from my family?" Tsuyoshi spoke up, "I see you've finally met her, she's a half dragon. Her mother was wounded by a magical attack and I couldn't let this little girl die in the wilderness, so I took her in when she was very young." Yoshiro nodded and took his armor out of the locker and put it on.
Yoshiro knelt before the little girl, "Listen, I promise to get your father back in one piece." The Little girl spoke up, "Grandpa, you must promise that you're going to return as well!" Yoshiro laughed, "I promise, by the way, what's your name?" The little girl looked down, "Mommy called me Bellona." Yoshiro placed his hand on her head, "Well Bellona, I'll return in one piece, that's a promise and you can ask your father here, I always keep my promises, even if I'm a little late on the timing." Bellona nodded slightly, "Alright. You two be careful, alright?" Tsuyoshi nodded slightly, "Alright." Yoshiro turned around and walked out of the room and then out of the house, where he climbed into Tsuyoshi's vehicle, knowing that Lilah wasn't there. When Tsuyoshi climbed into the vehicle, he started it up and the two of them drove towards the mountain.

Chapter 10
Yoshiro stood on top of the mountain, he and Tsuyoshi were near the ski lodge, which was empty. The emptiness only made him feel unnerved, "So, shall we go inside, I'm sure they have some supplies still in there." Tsuyoshi nodded, "After you, Dad." Yoshiro smiled under his helmet and walked into the lodge, there wasn't any construction going on, "Why is this place closed?" Tsuyoshi looked around a bit, "I don't know, it's probably something to do with the draconic base that is under our feet right now." Yoshiro turned to look at him, "It's under our feet, right now?" Tsuyoshi nodded, "Yes, not only that, but we're not alone in this ski lodge." Yoshiro nodded as he picked up a scent, "What's she doing here, I thought this place was closed to the general public. Yoshiko, come out!" Nothing happened, but Yoshiro heard her struggling behind a door. He walked over to the door and grabbed the doorknob to only find that the door was locked.
Yoshiro looked around, as he felt uncomfortable, "Tsuyoshi, I need you to find me a lock picking kit." Tsuyoshi nodded and started to look around the lodge. Yoshiro leaned against the door, "Yoshiko, I'm going to get you out of here." Yoshiro felt something was off and instead of looking back, he threw his elbow back and connected squarely with the nose of someone, who grunted and moved back a step. Yoshiro wheeled about and grabbed the unknown figure by the throat, "You're wearing a uniform that I've never seen before." Yoshiro tore the mask off the creature as he held it by the throat to see that it was a male human, "A Human!? Here!?" The human struggled, "Let go of me!" Yoshiro sighed and let go of him, "Who are you, what are you doing on Verbana!?" The human sighed, "I'm a space pirate." Yoshiro blinked, "You know, normally, people aren't exactly upfront with that kind of information."
The Human shrugged, "The way I see it, I'm a dead man anyhow. So why don't we get this execution over with." Yoshiro shook his head, "Who and what do you attack?" The Human sighed, "The Menschilche military transports, we tend to steal from them to give us supplies." Yoshiro nodded, "Alright, that's good. Look, I'm not going to kill you, in fact, I could use a man with your abilities." The Human spoke up, "Why's that?" Yoshiro shrugged, "I'm going to go set up a nation for myself, I hope you understand, but I could use a Pirate that could get their hands on some Menschilche supplies. It would go a long way." The human nodded, "What's the price? What are you offering me?" Yoshiro smiled and looked out the window, "Well." Yoshiro turned and smiled, "You'll have safety, shelter and you'll be officially recognized as privateers. Also your criminal records will be expunged." The human shook his head, "You don't have the authority." Tsuyoshi spoke up, "He can call in some favors and I do have the authority. There's no kit, Dad."
Yoshiro nodded, "Damn, well only one thing to do then." Yoshiro leaned into the door, "Yoshiko, I'm going to start murder stroking the door." Yoshiko's muffled sounds came from behind the door and Yoshiro sighed as he drew the sword from his belt. He grabbed the blade with his right hand and moved his left hand down to the blade, near the crossguard. He gripped the blade tightly and bashed the crossguard into the wood near the doorknob. After several strikes, he figured that the wood would be weak enough, "Yoshiko, lean away from the doorknob." Yoshiro waited for a few seconds and then punched into the wood of the door. The armor on his hand protected it as his fist went straight through the weakened section of door. He grabbed the lock and turned it before sliding his hand back through the door and opening it to see Yoshiko tied up with a gag in her mouth. Yoshiro was absolutely livid at this, but he sheathed his sword and gently took her out of the closet, "You're going to be alright."
The human looked at her, "You two twins or something?" Yoshiro looked at the knot on her gag, "Cousins, though in actuality, we're clones. I never got your name, if we're going to be working together, I'll need to know it." The Human shrugged, "Camillo, and I'll work with you when the criminal records of myself and my crew are expunged." Yoshiro nodded and removed the gag from Yoshiko who started speaking, "By the grace of grandmother! That was frightening, I thought no one was going to help me!" Yoshiro looked at the knot that the ropes were tied in, "Yoshiko, I need you to calm down and tell me who did this to you." Yoshiko spoke up, "Forest Kitsune soldiers." Tsuyoshi yelled out, "What!?" Yoshiro looked at Tsuyoshi, "You calm down as well!" Tsuyoshi walked over to him, "Father, this is a direct act of war, in fact this could be a trap." Yoshiro nodded, "Well this is a trap." Camillo spoke up, "Guess your boy didn't find the bodies upstairs. A couple of Kitsune Soldiers were waiting for you to come in, using this girl as bait. Since I didn't want to hurt her, I waited to see if you would come, that's when they sprung the trap and I killed them."
Yoshiro nodded with a slight smile and started to untie the ropes, "You're more resourceful than I thought. Tsuyoshi, I need you to call in favors to have the records of Camillo and his crew expunged and I'm going to have to get in contact with my spy network. There's some rogue element involved here and I don't like it at all. I need to nip this in the bud, before it becomes a civil war." Tsuyoshi nodded, "By the way, Father. Takeshi is operating in this area under military order." Yoshiro sighed, "Looks like my wife and our growing family will need a temporary home, because there might be a bit of bloodshed." Yoshiko spoke up, "No!" Yoshiro nodded, "Yoshiko, I want you to come with us, you'll be able to talk your brother down. However, if he doesn't listen to you, I'm afraid that he and I are going to have to fight. Whatever is in that facility belongs to the Dragons, not anyone else, understand. I made a promise to Bahamut and I intend to keep it, now I promise you that I will not kill Takeshi, alright?"
Yoshiko nodded as Tsuyoshi walked off, speaking into his earpiece, Yoshiro looked around, "Yoshiko, you need to recover, so we'll wait til tomorrow to go down the mountain. Camillo, how well is this place stocked?" Camillo pointed to a kitchen, "Very well stocked right now, we'll be able to stay the night with no issue." Yoshiro nodded, "Yoshiko go get yourself something to eat and something to drink. We'll rest today and tomorrow we'll go see what this draconic technology is." Yoshiko nodded and walked to the Kitchen, as Tsuyoshi walked back, "Alright, Camillo, you and your crew are free men." Camillo nodded, "So, boss, what do you want me to do right now?" Yoshiro looked at the two of them, "Rest up, we move out at first light. I'd love to go today, but Yoshiko needs time to recover." Camillo and Tsuyoshi nodded, before going seperate ways, Yoshiro walking over to the window that overlooked the mountain. Tomorrow, he would find out what was in that draconic facility and for the first time in a long time, he felt excited.

Chapter 11
The sun rose on the next day and Yoshiro woke up almost immediately, he made himself some breakfast and called the others. Tsuyoshi and Yoshiko walked into the Kitchen, Yoshiko looked tired, "What's going on." Yoshiro pointed to the food, "Eat up so that we'll have enough energy to deal with any trouble just in case." The two of them nodded and the three of them ate breakfast, Yoshiro smiling as he finished, "I would suggest that the two of you gear up. I'll be waiting outside with a snowboard." Yoshiro smirked and left the room, when he reached the board closet, he grabbed a snowboard out of it and walked outside with it. He placed his right foot into the strap and smiled slightly, as the other two walked out, Yoshiko and Tsuyoshi using skis instead. Yoshiro smiled, "Alright, are we ready?" Yoshiko nodded slightly and moved the goggles over her eyes and Tsuyoshi did the same, "Dad, have you ever snowboarded before?" Yoshiro nodded, "Yeah, I used to do it all the time. Alright, let's go!"
Yoshiro kicked the ground and pushed himself forward, he kept doing this until he built up enough speed to be comfortable. He glanced back and saw Yoshiko and Tsuyoshi remaining close to each other, but falling behind. Yoshiro looked forward and saw a tree coming his way, so he leaned forward while moving his legs slightly to turn the board away from the tree. Yoshiro was having the most fun he had in a long time and saw yet another tree coming his way, so he moved out of the way of that tree. He then saw an opportunity for a jump, so he crouched down, which further increased his speed. When he reached the jump, he leapt up and shifted his weight into a 360 degree spin, before landing back onto the ground. Yoshiro smirked underneath his helmet as Tsuyoshi's voice spoke over his radio, "Showoff!" Yoshiro laughed, "You're just mad that...." Yoshiro ducked under a tree branch, "Woah! You're just mad that you can't do that!" Tsuyoshi grumbled over the radio and Yoshiko giggled slightly, "It's good to see Yoshiro have fun."
Yoshiro saw a split in the path, "Yoshiko, you and Tsuyoshi take the easier route down to the bottom, I'll take the expert route." Tsuyoshi scoffed over the radio, "Seriously, Father, are you going to continue showing off today?" Yoshiro shook his head, "No. Figure that if this is my vacation, I'm going to make the most of it by having fun." Yoshiro turned to the left and started on the expert path. There was a jump fairly quickly and Yoshiro leapt over it, doing a backflip before landing on his board again, "WOO! I feel alive!" Tsuyoshi's voice spoke over the radio, "Seriously, are you only feeling alive when you're risking your life!?" Yoshiro shrugged slightly out of force of habit, "It's nice when people aren't shooting at me, yes." Yoshiko's voice crackled over the radio, "Yoshiro, please be careful." Yoshiro saw a rail and jumped onto it, grinding on the rail, while keeping his balance. He chuckled slightly, "Man, I wish I didn't have a helmet, but the snow and wind would get in my eyes and start blinding me."
Tsuyoshi sighed over the radio, "Are you near the bottom, yet? Yoshiko and I area already there?" Yoshiro hopped off the rail and saw a massive jump and below it, a figure that looked like a quarter pipe. Yoshiro smiled and launched off the jump, he looked down and saw Yoshiko and Tsuyoshi standing there as he started to spin rapidly and do a couple of front flips. However he righted himself and landed in such a way that he dropped onto the quarter pipe to board down it and transfer his momentum from vertical to foward momentum. Yoshiro shifted his lower body to turn the board into a braking manuever and stopped the board. He took off his helmet, "Woo! I feel alive!" Suddenly Yoshiro heard someone clapping, "That was an impressive show, Yoshiro. Absolutely impressive." Tsuyoshi turned to look, "Takeshi! What are you doing here!?" Takeshi sighed, "I told you, I've been ordered to find out what this is. So Yoshiro, will you please open the draconic base?"
Yoshiro reached for his sword, but Yoshiko got in between the two of them, "Please! The two of you are half-brothers, there's no point in killing each other over what's in there. There's no reason for either of you to fight." Takeshi sighed, "Yoshiko, what are you doing here?" Yoshiro growled, "I could ask you the same thing! You had her tied up and gagged and then thrown into a closet!" Takeshi looked shocked, "Who did this to you, Yoshiko!? I'll bring them to justice!" Yoshiko frowned, "It was two Kitsune Soldiers." Takeshi looked at Yoshiko, "Did you get their names?" Yoshiko shook her head, "No, big brother, I didn't." Yoshiro sighed, "This is all touching and all, but can you tell me exactly why the fuck you are here in a kingdom on a military operation!" Takeshi sighed, "I'm here to see what's in this base and report to my king. Nothing else, I do not know why other kitsune soldiers came here as well. This much, I swear to you."
Yoshiro removed his hand from his sword, "Well then, if that's the case, I refuse to help you." Takeshi sighed, "I was afraid that you'd say that, Yoshiro." Takeshi walked towards him and pushed Yoshiko out of the way, "So I propose something, hand to hand combat, if I win, you open that door and let me see what's inside. If you win, I'll leave empty handed." Yoshiro nodded slightly and adopted a close quarters combat stance, "Ready when you are." Takeshi nodded and rushed at Yoshiro with a feint, Yoshiro however didn't go for the defense, he instead went for the offense, punching at Takeshi's face, forcing the older Kitsune back. Takeshi sighed, Yoshiro noticed something, the older kitsune hadn't been practicing for very long. Yoshiro charged at Walthari, ducking below a punch and grabbing the older Kitsune by the arm, using that momentum to throw him down to the ground and he quickly dropped down and placed his knee on Takeshi's throat, "I win."
Yoshiro stood up and held his hand to Takeshi, who took it and he helped his half-brother up. Takeshi nodded, "You won, and I did set the terms, Yoshiro. I'll head out." Yoshiro nodded, "Alright, I'll see you later." Yoshiro watched as Takeshi left and then turned his attention towards the base in sight, "So, this is it, huh?" Tsuyoshi nodded, "There's a scanner over there, from what we know, it checks for draconic technologies." Yoshiro nodded and walked over to the scanner, which activated and started scanning him, a voice spoke up, "Vs'shtak technology owrnauka, aldoer spical." The doors opened up and Yoshiro smiled slightly as he put his helmet back on, "Alright, let's go see what the dragons have left in this base, I'm sure it'll be a great surprise." Tsuyoshi nodded slightly and Yoshiko looked at where Takeshi was heading, "Are you sure he's going to be alright, Yoshiro?" Yoshiro nodded, "Yeah, he'll be fine. Come on." Yoshiro led them into the base, not knowing what he would find within.

Chapter 12
Yoshiro walked into the draconic base and no sooner did he enter, did the doors close behind him. He turned around to see that he was inside the base on his own as some drones moved towards him. He became defensive and reached for his weapon, but the drones scanned him and one of them spoke in Common, "Species: Kitsune. Mana Type: Light. Mana Flow: Strong. Untapped Potential. Armor made from custom made draconic and unknown technology. Heartrate above average. Status: Agitated." Yoshiro didn't move his hand from his weapon, "Drones that speak Common, what are the Dragons hiding in here?" The drone continued speaking, "Kitsune speaks Common. Playing back recorded message." Yoshiro watched as a hologram materialized in front of him, it was of a dragon in a humanoid form, "Greetings younger races of Verbana."
Yoshiro looked at the hologram, "You're different, more advanced, are you a simple recording or an AI?" The hologram moved, "I am an AI with a recorded message, would you like me to play the message back to you?" Yoshiro looked around, "Can you turn on the lights to this place?" The lights came on and Yoshiro was amazed, he knew that the Dragons were an intergalactic species, but he had never seen it for himself. The technology in the base was far more advanced than the technology he was currently using in his armor, it was breathtaking for him! The AI spoke up, "I see that you are not an intergalactic species, yet, but if you're not, why would my creators work with you and give you their technology?" Yoshiro looked at the hologram, "I've been a long time friend of the Dragons, how long has this place been here?" The AI looked to the door, "There are two life signs out there."
Yoshiro nodded slightly, and placed his finger on his helmet, "Tsuyoshi, Yoshiko. I'm going to go to the central command station and see if I can't open the doors..." Before he could finish the statement, the doors opened up and the AI looked at Yoshiko in particular as she was scanned, "Her genetic makeup is nearly identical to your own. Is this one your clone." Yoshiro nodded, "She is, but I prefer to call her my cousin. She was created by the Menschilche." The AI looked at her and Yoshiro heard the unmistakable sound of weapons powering up. He pulled his gun out and took aim at the drone, "She's not affiliated with them! She was created so that a Kitsune that was captured by the Menschilche could have a child!" The AI looked at him, "You would defend her, knowing that you are outnumbered?" Yoshiro didn't budge, "I would. As the one trusted by the dragons to use their technology, I vouch for Yoshiko's innocence and her affiliation with the Forest Kitsune."
The AI moved the holographic hand and the weapons on the drones powered down, Yoshiko looked at Yoshiro, "Wh... what just happened!?" Yoshiro sighed, "Remember how I told you that the Dragons and Menschilche aren't exactly on good terms?" Yoshiko nodded slightly, and Yoshiro put his gun away, "This is what I was talking about. I'm sorry Yoshiko." The doors to the base closed, and the AI spoke up, "Listen, the two of you can stay within the living quarters down that hall. An unarmed drone will show you the way." Yoshiko looked nervous, but Tsuyoshi placed his hand on her shoulder, "Come on, no harm will come to us." The AI hologram nodded slightly, "So, Kitsune, what is your name?" Yoshiro spoke up, "Yoshiro." The AI hologram smiled, "Alright, Yoshiro. Would you like to see what lies within this base, what my creators have entrusted me with protecting until someone with draconic technology arrived?"
Yoshiro's curiosity was almost too much for him, he desperately wanted to see this secret, "Of course. When I found out about it, I figured I should see what the Dragons had in here." The Hologram started moving and Yoshiro followed it. The Hologram also began speaking, "Tell me, what do you know of Galactic History?" Yoshiro shrugged, "A fair bit from what I've gleaned from the Menschilche Archives, but I've never had the chance to see the Draconic side of things or the actual recordings of history." The AI spoke calmly, "I see, what do you know of the Eidechse." Yoshiro had never heard that name before, "Nothing, there's no record of them in the Menschilche archives. Then again, there's an entire star system that we've charted that to the Menschilche, simply doesn't exist." The AI stopped for a second, as a door opened, then kept walking, "That's because the Menschilche tried to wipe them from history, as they attempted to wipe them out of existence."
Yoshiro arched a brow, "Attempted?" The AI looked back at him, "There isn't an emitter for this next room, but it is our destination, I will still be able to communicate with you, however." Yoshiro nodded as the door opened, he saw a familiar technology for once in here. The room was massive and he saw cryo pods lining the walls, "Wow, how did the dragons deal with the whole bleeding to death upon being thawed out issue?" The AI spoke over the speaker in the room, "They didn't. Reptilian races do not have that same issue as Mammalian and Avian races do. Piscean races share the same characteristics as Reptiles in that regard." Yoshiro waked over to one of the pods and looked into it, the creature in question looked like a strange humanoid version of something the humans called a Frilled Neck Lizard, "How do I thaw him?" The AI spoke over the speakers again, "Place your hand on the side, your armor will do the rest." Yoshiro did as the AI said and watched as the thawing started.
After around ten minutes, the pod opened and the creature inside looked at him groggily, "Are you here to kill me?" Yoshiro took off his helmet to show his face, "I am not." The Eidechse looked at him and stepped out of the pod, "You're very well armed for someone who came here for peaceful reasons." Yoshiro nodded and extended his left hand to the creature, who moved back and the frill around his neck expanded, hissing. Yoshiro sighed slightly, "I just wanted to shake your hand. You've been in cryostasis for..." The AI spoke, "Approximately Nineteen Thousand, Five Hundred Fifteen Years, Eight Months, Nine Days, Four Hours, Thirty-One Minutes and Seventeen Seconds." Yoshiro looked at the creature, who looked to be in shock, the creature looked at the speaker and then at Yoshiro, "Where are we!?" Yoshiro spoke up, "Relax, you are on Verbana. We're friends here. If you don't believe me, I'll disarm." The Eidechse squinted slightly, as Yoshiro removed his weapons, including his sword and placed them on the ground.
The Eidechse looked at him, his frill going down, "You disarmed yourself?" Yoshiro nodded, "Of course, my name is Yoshiro and I've come seeing what secrets that the Dragons were hiding on my homeworld." The Eidechse blinked, "The Dragons, they're still alive?" Yoshiro nodded, "Yes, Dragons are becoming more and more well known amongst my people as living on Verbana instead of just being a myth. The neighboring planet of Eltirana has a strong Draconic presence. I'm Yoshiro, by the way. I'm a Forest Kitsune and Arctic Kitsune hybrid." The Eidechse nodded, "I'm Basilio, I'm known as a Kragenechse amongst my people." Yoshiro nodded, "Listen, I'm going to get your people out of the rest of these pods, think you can help calm them down and help acclimate them to their new time period?" Basilio nodded, "Yes." Yoshiro smiled, "Good, but I'm going to have to figure out how to move you guys out of here." Basilio tilted his head, "Move us?" Yoshiro nodded, "You're a group of reptilian species in a dragon base in the middle of the arctic circle in winter, we need to get you somewhere warmer." Basilio nodded, "Thank you, Yoshiro." Yoshiro nodded back, "It's not a problem, it's what I do."

Chapter 13
Yoshiro had split up from Basilio after he made sure that the Eidechse population could be sustained for a while yet. As he left the room, he saw the hologram rematerialize, "Take me to the archives." The Hologram nodded slightly and started to lead Yoshiro to the archives, it was a long and quiet trip, which wasn't exactly odd. Yoshiro was still marveling at the sight of the draconic technologies and how they were so advanced, he had never seen anything like this and believed that it would create a new technological leap within the Verbanan peoples. However, when they arrived at the archives, he saw an elf with draconic wings standing there, one look at the dark gray hair and he immediately realized exactly who it was, "Bahamut, what are you doing here?" Bahamut looked at him, "I could ask you the same thing." Yoshiro simply shrugged, "An energy signature was detected here and I got curious."
Bahamut nodded, "Your curiosity is what led you here, you're a warrior at heart, how can I know that you would not use our technologies and our knowledge to conquer the people of Verbana?" Another dragon spoke up, "Because he's my student." Yoshiro looked back to see Erasmus standing there in a half-dragon form, "Mentor." Erasmus nodded towards him, "Uncle Bahamut, I'm sure you recognize me." Bahamut nodded, "You were Tiamat's younger grandson, you're the monk, if I recall correctly, you were always meditating. You left Eltirana to come to Verbana, but why?" Erasmus folded his arms, "Because I couldn't get any sort of peace on Eltirana, everyone used to revere us Dragons and, I just wanted some peace and quiet on my new home, so I came here with the Eltiranans and slipped away. I've been watching my students, Uncle, if they're an indication of what Verbana's warriors can become, I think they're ready to gain our knowledge and our technologies."
Bahamut sighed, "I only recently allowed Yoshiro here to use our technologies and that's because of my great-grandson. You expect me to..." Yoshiro interrupted, "Bahamut, you and your kind have been watching over us for the past three thousand years. You said it yourself, you fear that we may become like those that had enslaved us, but that enslavement happened before I was born and there are more Verbanans that were born free than there are that were slaves at one point or another. We never wanted to be enslaved and we harbor a resentment for the Menschilche, yes, despite the fact that we used technologies that were left behind to advance ourselves into a spacefaring species within a generation." Yoshiro sighed and took off his helmet so that Bahamut could look into his eyes, "A lesson that I had to learn through bloodshed, a lesson that I had to learn through events that torment me to this day, is that if no one has the courage to take the step, to take a risk, then nothing will change."
Bahamut sighed, "Even so, you could be changing your entire planet for the worse." Yoshiro looked at his helmet and placed it on a console, "Bahamut, every time I go into battle, every time I draw my sword or one of my guns, I accept that risk. I fight for a brighter future, but I accept that I cannot win all the time. Your kind is important to us, there are legends about the dragons, if you're afraid that we'll turn out like the Menschilche, if you're afraid things will take a turn for the worse. Do not hunker down and hide in a shell, guide us. You and your people can guide us into a better future, one where I can finally put down my weapons and actually go out there and fulfill my childhood dream." Erasmus looked surprised as this was something he had never heard and was a side of Yoshiro that he had never seen, "What's that?" Yoshiro sighed, "I will admit that I have decided on forming a mercenary group, yes. Because until the ideal future comes to pass, the world will always need people to fight to protect those that cannot protect themselves."
Bahamut nodded, "Yet, they are still military." Yoshiro nodded slightly, "Yes, that is true, but I have no interest in leading them. When I saw the technology within this base, when I thought of what I could do with it, I began to think that I could finally escape war and do what I've wanted to do for the longest time. Ever since I was a kit, I would look up at the stars and wonder what lies up there, I've seen what is in our own solar system with my own eyes. However, I want to see what lies beyond our solar system, I want to explore the rest of the galaxy. Perhaps even be the first person from Verbana to see what lies beyond our own galaxy." Erasmus nodded slightly, "See, Uncle Bahamut. This is what the Verbanans are becoming. They're working together more and more, on bigger and bigger projects. They're coming together on more things, but you're too interested in staying isolationist to care, you should pay attention to the Kilvish nation, which was built within your territory. You have three different species living together in peace and harmony. You have multiple races in those species living in peace and harmony."
Bahamut turned away, "Yoshiro, answer me this one question, why did you choose to fight?" Yoshiro looked up at the ceiling, "Originally or my reasoning after Katriina was murdered?" Bahamut looked towards him, "Both." Yoshiro nodded, "Originally, it was because I was afraid. Ever since Katriina was murdered, I figured that if I didn't fight, some kid would have to get involved and take my place in the fight. I was always thinking, what if someone were to join the fight in my stead? Would they die? How would their friends and family take this? That is why I've been fighting in most wars as of late." Bahamut nodded slightly, "I see, perhaps you are ready for the draconic knowledge. However, what is the opinion of the rest of your world?" Yoshiro shrugged, "If you remember the Human-Verbanan war, we not only spared the humans, but helped them rebuild." Bahamut nodded, "Then perhaps you and your people are truly ready for the sum of Draconic knowledge."
Bahamut stepped out of Yoshiro's way and spoke up, "Si geou shala wer Verbanan xiekivi ekess urcaxa wer sum di Vs'shtak irthir. Thirku jihaia xanalre ekess Common." Yoshiro watched as suddenly holographic displays started to activate around him, Erasmus smiled as Yoshiro's mouth hung open in wonder, "It's like seeing a kid get his first toy." Yoshiro looked at everything around him, "All of this knowledge, all of this information, imagine what we could do with it. Excuse me, AI Program, can you show me a timeline of events within the galaxy ever since the Dragons first came here?" A timeline flickered to life and Yoshiro read it, however something on it made him concerned, "This event, right here. The Dragons and the Menschilche combined their forces, I never learned about that, what happened?" Bahamut frowned slightly, "Invaders from another galaxy came in, seeking to conquer, separately the Dragons and the Menschilche wouldn't be able to defeat these creatures on their own, so we formed a truce and fought them together with heavy losses to our already weakened forces. We won and pushed them out, but barely."
Yoshiro nodded slightly, "They might return someday, we should prepare for their return, just in case." Bahamut looked at him, "You were talking about exploration and now you talk about war?" Erasmus snapped at Bahamut, "You were always the one talking about isolationism, Yoshiro here is merely talking about setting up defenses in case of an invasion by these creatures. He's not talking about going into their territory and wiping them out like you are currently assuming that he is proposing." Yoshiro ignored their argument, "Can I see the designs of a draconic intergalactic engine." The designs appeared and Yoshiro looked at it, "Amazing, absolutely amazing. With this, we could cross our galaxy in a matter of days instead of years. This would revolutionize the way we explore our own galaxy and would even allow us to explore other galaxies! Show me the schematics of a draconic power source."
The schematics came to life and Yoshiro laughed slightly, "This is amazing, this makes the power we get from fusion look small. This is absolutely astounding, I never would've imagined something like this, I never would've thought of something like this! Alright, can you calculate the amount of time it would take Verbana to get to this technology on their own." A moment passed and a number popped up, "Yoshiro smiled softly, "We're going to have a technological revolution that allows us to advance several generations again." Yoshiro smirked, "Alright, this information is to be freely shared with the Verbanan peoples, can you transmit the data in your databanks to the Verbanans?" The AI spoke, "The total data capacity for the entirety of the Verbanan Archives is barely enough to hold the sum of Draconic knowledge." Yoshiro nodded, "Alright, so we just build something with more storage capacity, can you give me the schematics for that?" The schematics appeared on screen and Yoshiro smiled, "Excellent."

Chapter 14
The day of Alivna's birthday party came up and Yoshiro slipped away from the party for a moment to be alone. When he felt that he was out of earshot, he pulled out a recording device and spoke into it, "Ever since I was a child, I looked up to the stars and I've always thought about what lies amongst them. I was born in a time of peace, only a decade after we gained our freedom, but for the past few hundred years, I've been a slave to war. I've killed more people than I care to imagine and possibly many more, no action that I can take will wash the blood from my hands, but for the first time in my life, I'm sure that I will be able to live my life in peace." Yoshiro looked around to see if anyone was coming, and when he saw that there was no one, he sighed slightly and sat down in the snow, his white furred tail making an imprint of its own.
As he sat down, he smiled slightly, "With the discovery of a draconic base and what lies within, I've gained access to the sum of Draconic knowledge. Originally I had gone with a plan of building a draconic server in every kingdom, but for right now, it would be far easier to link every archive on the planet to the Draconic archives, allowing us to access them at will. Unfortunately, there will be people that will oppose the change that our civilization is going to go through because of this discovery, this is the second time an advanced alien race allowed us to progress rapidly, and since we don't have to reverse engineer anything, it'll be an even more rapid advancement. However, like I said, some people will be opposed to this, they will want the status quo and I will admit, I am slightly hesitant to bring all of this knowledge into the light. However, I have faith in the Verbanan peoples and the ability for the Dragons to lead."
A cool breeze blew across his face as he continued, "I'm admittedly afraid of what is in store for me and for Verbana, but I know in my heart that this is the right thing to do and I hope Eltirana will join us. The people look to me as if I'm some sort of hero but..." Yoshiro stopped when he felt that something was wrong, and he heard a crunching of snow. He saw Emiko walking towards him, "Sorry to interrupt, but your guardian spirit has come to me to tell me that she wants to appear before you." Yoshiro shut off his recording device and put it into his pocket, "I see, so I'm going to meet this mysterious soul for the first time." Emiko just smiled and pointed to Yoshiro's left, Yoshiro turned around and he took a step back in surprise, "Katriina!?" Katriina smiled slightly, "Though I lack a physical body, Emiko is allowing me to see and hear you. When I died, I refused to enter the wheel of reincarnation, until you passed away."
Yoshiro couldn't believe his eyes, or his ears, he knew that he had a guardian spirit this entire time that was protecting him from magic somewhat, but he never knew that it was Katriina, "You've been with me this entire time!?" Yoshiro couldn't find relief in this, but Katriina smiled, "Well, not all of the time, I mean when you needed privacy, I did wander off for a bit. But for most of the time, yeah, I've been with you, I see you've kept the pendant that I had given you all of those years ago, give it to Emiko for a bit." Yoshiro looked at the pendant that he wore around his neck, he took it off and handed it to Emiko who clasped it in both hands and started to enchant it with a spell that he wasn't familiar with. When she handed it back, Yoshiro grabbed the pendant and felt a powerful magic in the pendant, "What spell is this?" Emiko smiled, "You don't need me to see Katriina anymore."
Yoshiro nodded and placed the pendant around his neck, Katriina smiled, "The magic in the pendant reacts to your own mana being placed into it by you. By grabbing the pendant with your hand or by directing the flow into the pendant, you'll be able to see and hear me when Emiko isn't around." Yoshiro nodded slightly, "That's good to know." A cold wind blew across his face, blowing Yoshiro's hair into his face, "The future of Verbana cannot be foretold at this critical juncture, the Dragons will do their part and lead us into a new technological advancement. The winds of change are blowing, but once the raptors have been established, I'm going to leave the battlefield for good. I'm tired of fighting and I'm starting to approach the next milestone of my life where I'm through with one-third of my natural life span. I've done more than most people that are at that point, I've also killed more people than I care to count."
Katriina nodded and wrapped her arms around Yoshiro, who didn't feel her ethereal form, "I wanted you to live a life of peace, but you were the one that chose a life of war, Yoshiro. You're a good person and I always loved you like you were my little brother. However, you've decided to follow a path of war for around four hundred years, do you think that you'll be able to change easily?" Yoshiro stood up and leaned against a tree, "No, I don't. Never thought that it would be easy, only possible. Katriina, I think it's time that a new era for the Verbanan people dawns upon us. One where we all work together as a planet to explore new worlds, and actually try to find some new civilizations. I doubt that the ones we know about are the only ones." He smiled softly, "First though, we're going to have to go through the technological revolution, until then, I don't think that we can go anywhere."
Katriina smirked slightly, "So, Captain Miyamae, where do you want to take the course for the vessel of Verbana." Yoshiro pointed to the sky, "Second star to the right, and straight on until morning. We'll take the bad with the good and hopefully we'll come out as a better people on the other side." Katriina nodded slightly and Yoshiro heard Alvina's voice, "Great-grandpa, here you are! I've been looking for you." Yoshiro turned around and smiled, he knelt down and waited for Alvina to enter his arms before picking her up, "Sorry about that, I just had to record a journal entry." Alvina nodded, "So, what did you get me for my birthday?" Yoshiro smiled, "You won't understand just yet, sweetheart, but I got you the greatest gift in existence. I gave you a hope for an even better future than the one you had before." Alvina smiled, "That sounds nice, Great-grandfather! Thank you." Yoshiro nodded and smiled as he walked her back to the birthday party, "You're welcome, Alvina. You're very welcome."

Epilogue
Fifty Years Later
Yoshiro found himself on the bridge of the ship he had been given almost two hundred years ago, he had began changing the ship itself and outfitting it with Draconic technologies. He ran his hand against the chair and looked out of the viewport, this was going to be converted later into a mess hall and his captain's quarters into a kitchen. He walked into the Captain's quarters one last time and looked at himself in a mirror, "The stresses have been getting to me." He noticed that his hair wasn't the usual black color it normally was during the non-winter months, that he had a bit of gray near his temples. Yoshiro straightened out his blue uniform with silver lining on it and adjusted his rank insignia, he had chosen to become the captain of a Verbana Exploration force within the Verbanan Navy. It still wasn't out of the military, but at least in this line of work, he wouldn't be in wars anymore and his ship would be considered for all intents and purposes, a civilian vessel.
Yoshiro walked over to his desk and started to mess with his datapad for a moment, before starting a recording, "Captain's Log, Thirteenth day of the sixth month, five hundred and ninety years after the Liberation of Verbana." Yoshiro got out of his chair and looked at the shipyard facilities that were building completely new vessels, "Fifty years ago, I discovered a draconic base, which held an archive. Soon after, I would go to each of the nine continents and find what was in each base. Most of them had more Eidechse, but a couple of them had some dragons who were cryogenically frozen and one in particular gave us all of the knowledge we would need to propel not only our civilizations to a new age, but that of Eltirana. The humans have caught wind of our advanced state and are seeking to join an alliance after learning of the same alien race that I have learned about all of those years ago."
Yoshiro placed his hand on the wall above the window and leaned his head against it, "Everything seems like it's happening so fast. Even though we now have the ability to travel completely across our galaxy in a matter of weeks or even months instead of years, the prospect of being able to leave our own galaxy to colonize other galaxies eludes us. Verbanans have a long lifespan, but not as long as that of a Dragon. But I digress, the most troubling news that I have received as of late is that my brother, Walthari has cardiac issues because of adrenaline surges that are inline with his berserker rage. The doctor told me that he could die at any moment if he enters a rage, he doesn't seem to be taking the news very well, either. The last I heard of him, he was going to genetically engineer his own biological child, in order to make sure that he won't pass on the gene that allows him to go berserk."
A beeping sound emitted from Yoshiro's desk and he remembered proximity charge that nearly killed him. He placed his hand on his face as those memories flooded back into his head and he tried to push them back as he slowly walked to his desk and turned off his recording, "Activate." The voice of Noah sounded, "Yoshiro, if you are receiving this message, then your people have discovered the draconic caches on Verbana and you are currently modifying the vessel I have given you with Draconic technologies. I knew for a fact that I won't live to see this day, as when I last heard of your people, you had just started reverse engineering our technologies, but it doesn't matter. I had feared that you and your people would become militaristic like my people. When I met the Dragons for myself, they feared the same thing, and it was they that gave me the idea for gathering people sick of the Imperium and forming our own faction."
Yoshiro nodded slightly as the voice continued speaking, "The fact that you are getting this message is that you've chosen the right path, one of peace and exploration. It's the only path that the Dragons would allow you to use their technology on. There has been a hidden compartment in your quarters for some time, it's where I left my final legacy, my own violation of intergalactic law. Please, take care of my son, Yoshiro and remember, you are the arbiter of your own destiny, no one else is. From here on out, you and the Verbanan people are going to be the most advanced peoples in the universe. I have faith in you and your people to do the right thing. This will be my final message to you, farewell." Yoshiro smiled slightly, then turned to see the compartment open to reveal a stasis tube, suddenly the man in the tube woke up. It was a young Menschilche adult, much to Yoshiro's surprise, "A clone."
The clone opened up the tube and looked at him, "You, you look like the images that I've seen, except... older." Yoshiro shrugged, "That's what happens when over four hundred years pass, kid." The Menschilche Clone looked around, "Four hundred years, what year after Liberation is this?" Yoshiro looked up, "Five hundred and ninety." The Menschilche clone nodded slightly, "Noah called me, Seth." The name instantly awoke memories that Yoshiro had repressed, he remembered his old friend Seth, who was the older brother of Noah, "You... you're a clone of my old friend, of Noah's brother. But you look younger than he did when I first saw him, and you don't have the same look in your eyes as he did." Seth nodded slightly, "Do you wish to call me something else?" Yoshiro shook his head, "Not particularly, no. Seth, I want you to never think that you will have to live up to the original's legacy, never will you have to worry about my approval or that of the world. You're your own person and you can choose to do whatever you want to."
Seth nodded, "Well, if that's alright, sir. I would like to serve with you." Yoshiro looked out of his window, "This vessel will not be finished for another five years. Until then, you can explore Verbana and do whatever you want. There's another clone down there, one of me, her name is Yoshiko, I think the two of you should meet." Seth nodded slightly, "Sir, you're not much different from what Noah told me before he put me in stasis." Yoshiro frowned, "I've changed much since my old friend last saw me, but for the first time in my life, I feel like I'm on a better path, like I'm going to be able to become a better person and leave behind a legacy that isn't just about death when I'm gone." Seth frowned slightly, "Sir?" Yoshiro stood up, "Don't mind me, go down to the planet, have a good time for then next five years." Seth nodded, "As you wish, sir." As Seth left the room, Yoshiro looked at the moon of Verbana, "It's the end of an era, but we are beginning a new one. Will this era be brighter than the last one... I do not know. All I know is that we must all strive to be better people someday."
