I strive to defeat Tim in dumb thread names.
Anywho, sometimes I get the itch to talk about a game or anime or whatever I've recently completed. So this thread will get the whole treatment. Yay.
Important to note, these reviews will contain spoilers, but I'll but a big red bold message before they start. I don't really wanna spoiler them, though, I feel it ruins the ARTISTIC FLOW. That way I can stick a plot synopsis and a rating before them so maybe you can check it out before you read my drivel.
Reviews will have "Story, Characters, Premise, Animation, Music" and an extra arbitrary field I feel is necessary.
Essentially, a bunch of terrorists are fucking around in Tokyo and the local police department go to stop it. Turns out the terrorists are teenagers with a grudge against SOMETHING. You follow the exciting lives of inept police, the single competent detective, and two smug-ass teenagers going around blowing shit up. Have fun!

[Spoilers from here on out. Seriously, if you haven't seen it and plan on watching it sometime don't read further.}
Premise: Well, the opening scene is the two teen terrorists (ALLITERATION) pulling off the heist of a nuclear bomb prototype. And the premise is that these to shmucks are terrorizing Japan to settle some grudge with the government or whatever. I was pretty fucking hooked from the start. What probably made it the most interesting, was that you were promised a story following the bad guys, and that's always fun. Of course, they aren't REALLY bad guys, but they're still terrorists and in today's paranoid society I appreciate the balls of a story like this.
Story: Mmm, the story is pretty good. Although I do feel we've heard the "government tested on kids in secret" conspiracy bit a little too often. I found myself pretty hooked to the story and the happenings pretty much throughout. The interference of the 'muricans felt ham-handed although it IS explained later, and it does make sense, but still felt kinda clunky. The ending was alright. Terror bros achieve goal but also achieve 9mm sized holes in their backs. I would be pissed about this except the reason they have those new ventilation shafts felt shoved in and unnecessary, even if the reason for it was technically legit. Still, pretty good overall. Most of the other complaints I have have to do with characters.... SO HERE YA GO.
Characters: Honestly, the show impresses me. The cast of characters they have are actually pretty interesting. It's a shame how poorly handled some of them are. I haven't looked into this, but I feel like this was probably manga or LN or something first, because damn did some character progression seem rushed as fuck. The only characters who made logical decisions in tune with their established state of mind were black-haired terror bro detective man. So, starting from the most offensive MC, there's Lisa. A poor, bullied girl who's mother is crazy and abusive. She gets caught up in their terror shenanigans and become an accomplice to them. As much of an accomplice [insert any girl from SAO] was to Kirito. Jesus, I had high hopes (look more) for the character when she went with brown-haired terror bro, but all she fucking did was get in their way, act sad, and end up a damsel in distress forcing aforementioned terror bro to betray his friendo terror bro. Aside from the rescue situation, she was essentially Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby. She observed, did almost nothing, got in the way sometimes, and acted as a character who's only purpose was to show you how SAD EVERYTHING WAS. And sure, it was sad. DOESN'T EXCUSE THE CHARACTER. Next up is "5". Not much to say, aside from "WHY THE FUCK IS SHE LIKE THIS? WHAT ARE HER MOTIVES? EXPLAIN IT DAMMIT. I think the show attempts to explain it as a "I could never beat you, but I wanted to try. Lol games" kinda deal but fuck was it clumsy. Lasty, brown-haired terror bro did some things that were extremely questionable to his established character. As well as opposite of what kind of character I wanted him to be. He's kinda portrayed as this sociopathic cheery guy devoted to his friend4lyfe. He's nonchalant about the bombs and the possible deaths etc, but then suddenly girl mc bimbo comes along and ALL THAT'S OUT THE WINDOW. WE GOTTA SAVE HER and LETS BETRAY MY FRIEND and all that. Blegh.
Animation: Holy fuck damn. It's fantastic. Like, geez. The only complaint I have is the use of "still frames with only mouths moving" although that's pretty much intrinsic to the genre. Still bugs me though.
Music: Mmm. It's pretty damn good. Just, look up the full OST on Youtube. It'll speak for itself. For now, have this. It may sound kind of annoying but holy fuck it sets a mood in-show.
Police Treatment: Police are kinda morons. The system is corrupt as shit and bows to obviously shitty orders all around. I know that isn't awfully far from the truth but it still feels unfair. At least the detective guy was a good character, even if he sorta did contribute to the trope.
And there you have it. I might review a game next. "Psychonauts". We'll see when I have the motivation.
