"Play Purple, it's the most user-friendly and one of the easier games", I've been told. From right after Roxanne, if you're level-matched with a trainer's puppets, you're at a disadvantage. You might be able to two-shot them with super-effective moves but they can two-shot yours - without that help. For example, in the little stretch immediately after Roxanne there are a handful of trainers, a Rival battle, and another Team Aqua grunt. The latter two are the ones that can pull off that kind of absurdity on you. Seriously, the Aqua grunt's CNitori can two-shot a CLuna with Whirlpool - but isn't two-shot by her victim's Thundershock. And they were both level 14. To say nothing of the rival's level 15 CMomiji... Once you finally get to Dewford, you need to fish for puppets. With your crusty hand-me-down of an Old Rod sometimes you won't get anything. And when you do, the caught puppets are almost all CHina, ranging from level 5 (worthless) to level 10 (considerably better). The Granite Cave is populated by Koakuma, Rumia and Kisume, levels 6-11. These will have to be my grinding grounds for a long time now because Brawly's already waiting next door - probably with level 20+ puppets. The sole silver lining to this mess was a fishing catch: Such awful moves... she'll have to piggyback on others for the 50% free XP ._.

In honestly, Brawly isn't the hardest challenge. This is still the easiest part of the game. Now, when you get to Flannery or say, Winona? Then yes, you will feel pure and utter wrath of the game. But this is still easy. What the game expects from you is that you know how to grind. You know how to train, and you know how to proceed through.

Brawly is murder.
My level 15-17 puppets are all one or two-shot by his army - and his CSara is barely fazed by anything in my arsenal, except maybe for CReisen's Psyshot. Shame that CSara has Mach Punch and can take out Reisen without giving her a chance to act.
I'm raising a CKoakuma in hopes of getting more Reason-typed moves, but since all puppets in the Granite Cave know Astonish she ends up having to subsist on that free 50% XP.
The real fun part is that the level 19 CSara isn't even the worst thing in his arsenal!
One of the infodumps that came with the game - about Trainer puppet levels - reveals he has an evolved puppet!!!
And you people told me that game is easier than the rest of the series? You're all either unrepentant cheaters or 50 levels of overachieving.

Will do - as soon as I find a Tewi with one >_> In the only area they appear they aren't exactly common, plus they might not even be holding anything.

If you dont mind I think Nazrin learns Thief early enough, raise her up and use that instead of chucking balls at a bunny.

Here's a hint for you: Sara has very good special defense, but not so good physical defense. And yeah, you need to know how to effectively grind. I never really have a problem with Touhou Puppet Play Purple. Not only that, but as people may not want this to be so, it is not always suitable to just pick all of your waifus/fav characters. Team composition is very important. You may need to put your bias aside in order for you to be able to pass the game. Waifu/fav character teams may work with some characters (i.e. Kaguya has a very diverse typing pool in terms of evolutions. Sanae is somewhat like that too.) But I really recommend you not do that. Check the notepad documents that came with the game. And lastly, look at the wiki if you need to: thpp.supersanctuary.net/wiki/Main_Page

I was unbiased as hell. Every failed attempt vs. Brawly had a different team composition, often ditching the starter, even.
Not like this matters at this point, though. While I did get past Brawly, got caught completely off-guard by the Archie battle and barely defeated him (I'm talking five fainted puppets) and eventually reached Steelport, the difficulty in grinding on the local wilds, as well as my own puppets, combined with another nasty trainer battle (Rival battle this time) made me swear off my original adventure, at least for a while.
And now I am collecting index numbers for the puppets and the moves so I can use a Pokemon creator utility (meant for the original Pokemon Emerald), give myself an elite team, and sweep the whole game. Yes sir, I'm now going down the path of unrepentant cheating because I've had enough of the game not giving me a single break at all.

Well the game is meant to be more difficult than the pokemon games and other touhoumon hax. If you need me to give you a suggestion, I'd recommend you getting a TSanae, because she does very well throughout all the game.
Another suggestion would be is to get at least two puppets with pickup.
Lastly, seriously check the notepad files, they have some really useful information.
If you really need to, you can just use save states ya know. Save states are cheating, but it isn't stupid cheating like what you just suggested before.
Also again, what teams were you using?

Purple weeds out the weak.
Seriously though: get a Medicine. The game is more than possible if you put slightly more thought into battles than hold spacebar.
I even took healing items off enemy trainers while allowing the player to keep using them! It's the little things.

Why? Medicine does not seem to get any worthwhile moves (at least in the caught-in-wild levels) nor stats (decent Sp. Atk, but is outdone by other mons, plus this one is SLOW) nor types (Miasma/Nature makes her weak to Flying, Fire, Ice and Reason; not being weak to Earth hardly helps in the first gym, where you can still get Rock Tombed in one shot) No sir, I have the type chart always by my side and I'm aware of gym leader puppets carrying moves to defend against usual counters. I'm aware of using statuses as much as possible. What more do you expect from me? Turn-by-turn strategies, like in competitive? EV/IV analysis? Tell me.

Well for one thing Medicine is very slow, so the slow procs from rock tomb don't matter. But the main reason why you use medicine is for this one simple thing: Leech Seed. She also gets burn powder later, which is also helpful.

Because Medicine is good, especially in early and midgame. I speak from experience. lv5 Poisonpowder, lv8 Stun Spore, lv17 Leech Seed a lv25 evolution that gives 100hp 95 def/sdef along with 90satk is bad now i guess miasma and nature both kill waters, miasma kills natures as well. for types she is weak to you simply do not use her unless you play around and see what she can take hits from. you're also looking past her water, faith, heart, and wind resists, which are equally as important as her weaknesses. she even gets a 4x nature resist! powerful. i expect the same from you that i expect from everybody: i expect you to suffer. You seemed to only look at her negatives while ignoring her positives. Anything can look bad if you only focus on the negatives.

Hey, wait just a second. Who is playing through Touhoumon Purple? You or me? The answer should be obvious, so why do you keep telling me how am I supposed to play the game? This is my game. I will play this game in the way I find it most fun to me, using puppets the way I see fit.
Look, I made this thread in search of constructive answers to my problems, not as a venue to be insulted by the apparent creator of the game.
Like this. Or even when you pointed out about Medicine's real utility. But comments such as:
These are not. If you wish to contribute, please do so in a supportive manner. If you refuse, I'm going to ignore you or even report you if you go too far.

I forgot that first impressions are important. Oops.
Honestly, telling you specific puppets to try using is really about the only advice I can give at the point you're at. Earlygame is a lot more rigid in team construction than it is later in and you can get away with playing favorites far easier there than you can early in. Some bosses nearly demand specific answers to be on your team to go easily - they're still beatable, but they're painful otherwise.
As for the "suffering" comments, it's just my go-to response. I've used it so frequently with people that I actually know that I've forgotten that it seems mean-spirited. I assure you that I meant it entirely as a joke, but if my ribbing at you offended you, I apologize and will do my best to avoid comments like that in the future. For now, I will gracefully bow out of the discussion. I wish you good luck.
... this post seems far more passive-aggressive than I intend it to. Oh well.

Well you can look past the obvious joke comments, but what he's saying is still true.
He's the guy who created the game, so he knows the ins and outs of it.
His comments are based off of his experiences with other people who have had trouble with the game, and they probably just spacebar'd through it ya know. So don't be so quick to offend.
After all, you said so yourself that you were willing to just cheat your way through the game because you're having such a hard difficulty, so that was his advice. The fact you said you were willing to cheat meant that you desperate. He wasn't trying to play the game for you. I can understand why his comments would cause you to feel offended, but as I said before, the point still stands. Medicine will make the game much easier for you throughout the game since you're having such a difficult time.
