The setup
Like DRC, THGT will be a competition where you're given one week to get a run to submit. However the format will be very different and is largely borrowed from shmups forums STGT format. Participants will form teams beforehand, complete with names and maybe even banners. The team size is up in the air, but I'm thinking up to 4 people can form the team, and those that do not join specific teams will be considered "mercenaries" and will be assigned into teams for balancing purposes. The competition will probably last for 3 weeks with 1 week per round. Each round we'll be playing a random game. Everyone plays that same game during the week. The difficulty we play could also be randomized, or, it will be decided beforehand (like Normal for round 1, Extra for round 2, and Lunatic for round 3.) Players individual results will be added into their teams points for each week. At the end of the final round, the team with the most points wins. It will be a competition for score. Given that you only get one week, try not to set up unrealistic expectations on yourself. Every little bit counts towards the team. It is meant to be for fun, obviously.
Now that I've explained the premise, there are some other things to consider about how this will work.
Game choices
All the main windows games except PoFV are definitely eligible. The question is if we should allow any other games to be rolled. This is where we want your feedback. Some of the games could be problematic, PC98 games can be difficult to run, for example. The games that are up in the air are all PC98 games, PoFV, and all the decimal shooting games. Yes, even the scene games. In the event that those are eligible, should one be rolled, we could also randomize the scenes played as well. And don't worry, if you don't have everything unlocked in a game where it is necessary in order to play, score files will be available. So, everyone will be able to play as long as you can run the game.
Difficulty modes
Right now we have two options for the difficulty modes. Either they will be randomly chosen each round, or we'll have them pre-decided and only the games will be randomly chosen. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm interested in hearing them. Otherwise tell us which way you prefer. If we go with random difficulties, we've considered not including Easy mode, depending on what people want. I understand that not everyone playing can play on a Lunatic level, but don't worry, every little bit counts. We'll make sure it is impossible not to gain any points. It is appreciated if you try to play, even if you can't beat the game.
Point formulas
It could be a simple ranking based on placement. Individual rankings will give +1 point based on the placement (so with for example 30 participants, first place gets 30 points, last place 1 point). Otherwise we could use a DRC-like formula to calculate points. This does bring up a bit of a conundrum and will require some further discussion and tweaking if we do it that way, though. If there are any other ideas, tell us. The downside to simple ranking is that big gaps between placement will still only result in a 1 point difference. The downside to formulas is the fine tuning required to balance it, which could end up backfiring. Any ideas on how to best do this are appreciated.
Rival System
The rival system was just a fun idea to try to spice things up and maybe get people to try a bit harder. Throughout the competition, everyone will have a rival player. It could be random, or we could hand pick rivals for balancing purposes, so that everyone's rival is around the same skill range. If you beat your rival player during that week, you will be awarded a small amount of bonus points. Nothing game breaking, but enough that it could push your results forward a bit. Do you like this idea? It is by no means necessary, but if people think it's a fun idea, we will include it.
Uneven number of team members
If the teams are of uneven sizes, even if it's just by 1 player, that could be bad news. I can think of two ways to deal with this. Either the lowest ranking player in the bigger teams will not count towards the team total for that week, or we will try to balance mercenary additions so that the assumed "best" teams will also be smaller. Either idea should work. Hopefully the number of players will just result in more even sizes.
When and how to do THGT
I brought this up as a fun competition to do in between DRC. However, some expressed that we could try actually replacing DRC one time instead, for the sake of variety and the fun of trying something new. I understand that not everyone that plays DRC are going to want to participate in this given that it's quite different, so it's all up to you, how this is going to happen. If THGT ends up being a success, perhaps it could be a yearly occurence.

Please answer the form if you intend to participate in THGT so I can gauge people's opinions.
It is appreciated if you bring up any new ideas you have, or any thoughts about the existing points I've gone through. In addition, you can reply if you are simply interested in participating, as it will help gauge how many people there will be. If there's a larger amount of people, I'll need to reconsider for example how teams work, whether they should be bigger or remain the same size. At the moment I'm think max 4 people can form the team, and the actual size will likely be 5 or 6 per team. If there's a lot of team-less mercenaries, I might need to make some teams consisting entirely of those mercenaries. This all depends on how things pan out, I'm not expecting so many participants that such problems will arise though.
