The Touhou playerbase has a variety of people who take certain games as far as they can, and there are also those who might not be at 'superplayer' level, but their efforts are still enjoyable to view regardless. My favorite player out of anyone would most likely have to be KG. He streams often, enjoys playing the games a fuckton, and is overall a very good player. He excels mainly in UFO, which is also my favorite game. I'm pretty glad that he's offered me a lot of advice when it comes to scoring the game and even has looked at my replays and the like. He's quite cool. Other players I appreciate are Keito, Yumiya, kisara, SOC, Yu-suke, gyouch, harukara, RANKO, and shin. There's a lot of players over in the east that I like, but I just chose mainly those that are the most prominent in my eyes. When it comes to the community around me, I'm glad to be surrounded by a lot of capable players and I'm glad that our own community seems to be improving. I enjoy seeing the efforts of Zig, Yats, morth, Maribel Hearn, DarkPermafrost, Mino, Pearl, and more. Upcoming players such as Neptune, Martin, and GoldenDrummer also deserve a mention.

BEST: Nazrin
MIDDLE: KG, SOC, Rend, Chargog, HNY, most KP'er/otherwise western player who isn't constantly/mostly negative.
LOWEST OF THE LOW: Sakurei and Mino, because i'm supposed to be the tsundere.
LOWER THAN THAT: trap15, Cream3.14 and Softdrink117. Because MEGA JERKS. Seriously.

There's way to many for me to name them all, but these players really stand out to me:
First and foremost, I want to mention yumiya for creating the best touhou stream out there. I've been watching him since back when I was doing hard mode 1ccs. That was at the end of 2013.
John, Nyanko and Lidera. SA Easy wouldn't near where it is today without all 3 of 3 players. There's Lidera, the original SA easy scorer who routed almost everything, and is still unparalleled in his first spell grazes. John pushed stage 1 and 2 insanely far and set extremely high standards for the categories. I think he has the most similar playstyle to me, in terms of emphasising the early game. And then there's nyanko, who can play 35 minutes without a single mistake and has an extremely strong endgame. The competition in SA easy is pretty tough!
Keito and omega for TD extra. Omega still has 2 very clean wrs. Keito has come up with stronger stage routes, which are the biggest improvements to the categories since omega. Keito also streams TD Extra a lot and I find myself watching him all the time.
7bit and lizzy also produce really entertaining replays and come up with all sorts of interesting ways to push the games. They're always fun to watch.
I greatly appreciate tournament organisers, specifically KG and the DRC team, for what they bring us.
And of course I appreciate any good players who stream often. Even if they play something I'm not interested in myself. Keito, Yu-suke, KG, Hurst, Dede, rori, NC and hopper come to mind.

coa probably first. played a ton of mof, getting records in most categories he played. not particularly skilled or talented, and his runs often weren't all that great in the end, but he was devoted and persistent and didn't give up, specifically seen in his extra 1b. he set standards for a lot of mof, especially extra. he led the way for and competed with jack and wreath.
jack and wreath, obviously. they pushed mof extra very far, and liked it as much as I do, if not more.
also saki, alan, oosaka, ina, dede, morth, chum

Easy answer: Yu-Suke. Perhaps the top dog in terms of single game achievements.
However I have other more personal choices. After all, I play some of the more "off" games. Out of the games I've played seriously these past years, there is one player in one of those games that I really look up to, and that is Ia. While not all of his scores are amazing, he really does have dozens of WTF tier scores, and Shoot the Bullet wouldn't be half the game, competitively speaking, without Ia. in GFW, I appreciate the work done by DATA and Gasoline in particular. Dream Dweller, too, but it's more out of courtesy, because I quite honestly just don't like his category. Double Spoiler (and 9-6 in StB) shows t1100 as a player of immense skill, too, she does a few things I simply cannot understand how it is possible, like the 4-2 scores. Some other photo game players I really appreciate are Fisty, Hakuka and Dame K.K. Lastly, although I can't say I've been very serious about PoFV, there's FSX who blows me away with those monster scores, but unfortunately I haven't had the interest to watch replays for PoFV lately so I need to catch up on his work... clearly FSX is one of the highest skilled players out there in any case.
Besides them, well, I guess it's just easier to get attached when it involves people you speak to yourself, or at least speak the same language. Cactu is the best example. For one reason or another, I got really emotionally invested in his playing, getting super nervous when he gets to stage 6, super disappointed (generally moreso than I get when it's me playing...) over his failures, and ecstatic over the victories. One of the most memorable Touhou moments for me was his EoSD highscore LNN. Off the top of my head nothing I've done had that kind of positive emotion involved, at least not in a way that lasts. Anyway, it just goes without saying that I'll be happier for Sakurei or Cactu or whoever than random player I've never spoken to, even if their work is appreciated. In fact I'm a bit sad by my gradual departures from tracking other players and although I would love to be more interested I guess my interest faded over time. A lot of cool people would've seen more from me a few years ago.
So my personal Touhou idol is Ia in the games I've competed in personally, and otherwise it's Yu-Suke for pushing the best maingame to its limits with impressive brain work, daring techniques, frankly absurd skill and a full shmup schedule to boot. Gus approves.

My scope of players so far is really just limited to those I already have a degree of familiarity with, so who I consider my "favorite" players sadly won't cover stuff like WR/superplay replay submitters or YouTubers or streamers and such. So, here's who I would say are my favorite players (not strictly limited to these, of course).
ZM Maribel Hearn Pearl DarkPermafrost Gibbi Mino Satis Zig Zengeku Sakurei Neptune Morth RB Chip Yats
Can't think of anyone else off the top of my head so I'll just leave it at this for now!

I like a lot of the guys who just stream the Touhou games casually on twitch but are still pretty good at it (but don't really go beyond Lunatic 1cc or anything). Erikklk, Skylersilver and Eredom are ones I can think of now quickly.
As for the "exceptionally" good players, I mostly like Mino, RB, ARF, Jaimers, ZM, Gibbi, Satis and cactu when it comes to content.

I don't really follow a lot of players, to be honest. One of my favorite though, is Jaimers. I play a lot of shmups other than Touhou, so his videos have helped me not only with Touhou, but with other games as well. Also, Cactu. Kind of obvious, since my favorite is EoSD, and it's pretty nice to hear him commenting. Oh yeah, and cream soda's nice walkthroughs definitely helped a lot with getting my first 1cc. I've also been following Martin's channel. I don't know how much time he has been playing, but he is definitely improving fast. Oh wait, there's also Minogame. And Maribel Hearn? His DDP runs were pretty nice to watch.

Yu-suke for being Yu-suke. Chum is basically the HS or Shin of GFW, which happens to be my favorite game, the routes I see before his time are like minefields. +points for being generally super. The EoSD boys are all pretty cool people, especially Gibbi who gave me a lot of advice when I was starting out, very much appreciated. Miduki was my ideal player when I started out, there was just something about his dodging and general movement, very clean. Also his 1MNB in DDC with MarisaB is probably the most painful replay I have ever watched. FSX is an absolute god and makes PoFV his bitch (somehow). Great to watch when he's not stalling for 4 lilies on stage 1. OOSAKA tamed the lasers of MarisaB, how the fuck. It goes without saying that's he a great EoSD player and has some insane scores. Everlasting is a fucking cunt and quite the impressive player. He motivated me to go for higher goals sooner instead of settling for random 1cc's in games I don't actually care about.
And pretty much everyone who streams frequently.

Ahaha, there's so many... The first person I have to talk about is Inefushi. I really do have a softspot for him, heh... But really. I don't think I'd know anyone here without him. Watching his 6.605b run was what got me into scoring and higher level play in the first place... and that's something I'll always be thankful to him for. I may not play IN like him, but it's always fun to watch him play. And then there's other frankly inspiring players like Kisara, Gobou, Yu-suke, Mithril, KG, Keito, FSX... Their skill, their enthusiasm. It's frankly amazing to watch. Then there's people like John, Nyanko, Lidera, again Mithril and Keito, HS, Morth, who have pushed the categories I'm personally interested in... SOC, HNY, UKT, Rori, HUF, and all the other inspiring people I've seen player over my time. And then, you have the people I myself have met. Talked to. Encouraged, been encouraged by. So, in no particular order: ZM, Zig, your youtube channels were what led me to discover this community in the first place. You've both encouraged me, you've both helped me. Thank you. Mino, your videos got me interested in PCB and UFO. From there, I explored all the games. I don't think I'd have as deep of an appreciation for this series if I hadn't. So thank you. And I'm pretty sure you were the first Touhou stream I visited, my gate into this community... Might've been Cactu, though. Can't exactly remember. Ehe... Gibbi, seeing you grow from your first EoSD lunatic 1cc to where you are now, much better than I, has frankly been amazing to watch. I know it's a bit redundant to say this now, and silly considering you're much better than me, but great work. I'm proud of you. Morth, you led me to explore both TD and SA, and you also led me to consider difficulties below lunatic for scoring. You've encouraged me, you've helped me. And I've had a ton of fun with SA easy. Everlasting and Cactu, seeing you go for your goals so far has been inspiring. You both gave me an appreciation of EoSD as a game, even though I enjoyed it for survival before. Yats, you're cool. Chum, GFW is an ice game and you're cool. Martin, it's been cool seeing you grow. And the Replay Showcase is cool. Maribel, Bloony, Perma, you're all fun people to talk with and I enjoy seeing the shit you do Nep, I've enjoyed seeing you play TD hard. Zengeku, you're funny. Sakurei, you're a great help, and I appreciate your blunt honesty. Plus, like Zengeku, you're funny. I've had many great times in Extruder's chat, so I must thank him for that at least. And the PoFV tournament he hosted recently for charity is cool. Xirno, I doubt you're reading this, but I've enjoyed seeing you score UFO normal. Pls stop being offline all the time
There's also people like Lollipop and Minako, who I've enjoyed tracking stalking over time. Riri, you've made some really helpful patches and stuff. Though I don't think Riri is on Eientei sooooo....
Also cool to see Zil push up his PoDD scores, Kirby too. AJS and RobinLSL, leading me to discover Danmakufu and by that, fangames... Also MegamanOmega, RobinLSL, and Raak1010 for their youtube videos. Gus is hilariousAnd everyone who streams. Fun to watch. Gosh. I'm feeling so sentimental now. Thanks ZM :VAnd that concludes my massive list lmao
