How do you feel about them?
It's hard for me to come across fun nowadays, because I value achievements too much and experiences too little. And on top of that, the achievements I value aren't even my own - I take the incredible successes of others and use them as my own benchmark. As a result, in Touhou for example, almost every experience is a crushing lesson in failure, because, you know, one can only triumph over them with dedication. The end result is that Touhou makes my blood boil and sometimes even shed tears.

Depends on how much I like the game, a lot it is wanting to improve myself. I should also say that it isn't the main reason why I play, challenge I mean. For example, when I try to play really well at Touhou I end up playing like crap, but when I just sit back, relax an have fun with it I end up playing better. Anywho, yeah, depends on how much I like the game, because when you play a long time you end up overcoming whatever challenge you ha.

I play in short spurts, and the knowledge that it's possible, so it's my fault I'm fucking up. I don't think I've ever really gotten angry at Touhou. Other games, on the other hand...

I value the idea in the sense that it is a great way of extending how long you play a game for, and how much enjoyment you get from it. It's not the first thing I do though (unless the game demands it), as setting meta challenges on at least your first run through (particularly why I never use walkthroughs the first time I play a game) can ruin the experience.

I value challenge. I like to be able to beat that one boss or that one mission that not everyone can complete. Nowadays, most games are far too easy to beat. Sometimes it even feels like everything was made in order to be published in a "for dummies" book format. Even today, I brag about having all the legendary weapons in Final Fantasy X and killed 100 people in Bushido Blade's slash mode (basically it translates by killing 100 without being hit a single time, that game has no health bar).
I don't think every single game should be like Dark Souls, but giving extra challenges to people who could use less hand holding is always welcome.

Gaming failure doesn't even affect me anymore. I've developed an Arino like attitude towards games. You can throw the most unfair, aimbotting, artificial difficulty, trial and error, memorizing, cheap, things at me, and I'll just enjoy the act of playing the game, even if I have been playing the same level for the past 3 days and I've been grinding the same room for hours. Winning the game is just a bonus that makes me feel extra happy. I guess this is the kind of attitude that makes things like SMB2J no death speedruns and STG superplays possible.

I can only wish I was like this. ;n; It's not difficult to train yourself to think like that. After playing difficult games enough, and forcing yourself to calm down whenever you get upset, you start to get more neutral towards failure until eventually failure is nothing more than a learning experience. Train yourself so when you die instead of thinking "I am pissed/in despair", look at the failure logically and think of how it could be avoided in the future. Then you start to enjoy the gameplay itself more. It also helps to get out of a victory mindset. IE, don't expect to win. Try to win, but don't focus on victory, just focus on how much fun it is to play the game. When I'm playing games, the goal I'm reaching towards is only on my mind when I'm not in the game, like when I'm watching a cutscene or something. Victory is just a fun bonus at the end of a game, and isn't the deciding factor in enjoyment. And to avoid negative emotions in multiplayer games, unless absolutely nesscary for team communication, turn off all chat features. Focusing on the other players instead of focusing on the game is the result of nearly every negative emotion that normally isn't there in singleplayer games.
