Full thread title would be "Because apparently the sea is a big puzzle, Let's Play Etrian Odyssey III!" but the forum is a dick.
Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City, originally released as Sekaiju no Meikyū III: Seikai no Raihōsha (世界樹の迷宮III 星海の来訪者?), is a 3D dungeon crawler role-playing video game by Atlus for the Nintendo DS. The title was released in Japan on April 1, 2010 and in North America on September 21, 2010. It's a sequel to Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard and is followed by Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan. Players assume the role of a guild leader, adventuring into the labyrinth to fulfill quests.
... Okay now that the wikipedia excerpt is out of the way, let's talk about this thread. I've always been a fan of the whole Let's Play things, most notably the screenshot-type ones. And as such, I've always wanted to do one for myself. I've tried to do so in the past, but most of the time my own laziness got into the way and I couldn't bring myself to even start it. But this time, I'm hopefully going to be serious. And I'm going to start by doing an LP of a game in a series I've recently fallen in love with.
To begin with, this LP is going to be mostly presented in a screenshot format, but videos will be given for notable battles (Most likely bosses). I'll be giving youtube links to the songs that play in-game, and in that regard I'll let everyone listen to every track in the OST at least once, but I may put my own BGM in certain parts to spice things up.
Also, one of the Etrian Odyssey series' main selling points is the fact that you can create your own guild by using a set amount of classes, and from there you use your own imagination to give your guild members personalities and the like. I'm going to exploit that to the fullest, and let you guys create your own characters for use in the RP. And due to this, the LP is going to be in Narrative-Informational style. I'm not the most knowledgeable guy in regards to the game but I feel like I can handle myself well enough.
And finally, in regards to the LP format...
This is normal text that appears in-game.
This is text that is being spoken by a character.
This is grayed-out text in-game, mostly related to tutorials.
This is my own commentary.

On the spoiler below is the introductory chapter to the LP, mostly to set things up. Here's to a safe and enjoyable journey!

Introduction:
*BGM: That's the Beginning of the Adventure*
Welcome to the title screen of EO3. You're probably going to see this a lot, regardless of how many breaks you take. Anyway, we don't have much to do here (or to show, anyway). So let's just dive into the game.
*BGM: Town - Between the Azure Skies and Seas*
As if tacitly admitting it, the Senatus ruling over Armoroad have invited explorers to their city.
The invitation drew throngs of eager explorers who gathered to traverse the undersea maze.
But none of the throngs who came to challenge that maze were strong enough to master it.
In Norse Mythology, the Yggdrasil is known as the world tree, which nutures the world, IIRC. This may or may not be relevant in the long run.
You yourself are an explorer who has heard its legend and now sail to Armoroad to investigate.
Every Etrian Odyssey game forces you to go to the Explorers Guild every time you start a new game. Can't go into the labyrinth unless we have a proper team after all!
*BGM: Town - Engrave Thy Name*
This guy is the Guildmaster. He's known as the Guildmaster. We shall henceforth call him the Guildmaster. Most of EO's NPCs don't have names, and the ones that do only get their names mentioned in the artbooks or other official material.
I'm here to supervise all the explorers who find themselves in our fair burg. Here's a little something I give to every new guild for signing up.
The Guild Certificate does nothing particulary special. The scripts, however, give us access to some very special skills which I'll explain once we get our guild ready.
Think hard, because that name may be known someday across the seven seas. It all depends on you.
And as such, we get to name our guild in a handy qwerty touchscreen keyboard. Really, it's nothing you guys haven't seen before. Anyway, I'll be putting the guild name up for suggestions, but if you guys can't think of anything...
... then this will be the name our guild we'll use.
Well then, step two is registering explorers in your guild. You'll need to hire a few folks, but it's up to you whether or not you want to become a member too.
Choose your favoured classes from the list and form a party of up to five explorers.
And here's the options we'll always have at the Explorers' Guild. Register lets us create a new member to the guild. Organize lets us Dismiss, Rename, Rest or Retire our guild members. The first two options should need no explanation, other than Renaming costs 1000En for some freaking reason. The other two options though, are somewhat special and will be explained once we get guild members to use them on.
Formation lets us set up our party, so this option is useless to us without any members. Talk lets us talk (duh) to the person who is at the room at the moment, mostly for some filler dialogue, although the option is required for some stuff later on. And finally, Leave lets us.... well. leave the area. Let's create a guild member, shall we?
Same thing for the Guild Name, only we get 2 more characters. Let's see the actual meat of the character creation: Classes!
Etrian Odyssey III gives a whole 12 classes to choose from, with only 10 of them being available at the start, and the other 2 being unlocked later on.
Now, the character creation is where you readers come in. You guys are going to create the members for the guild, by choosing their class, portrait, and whatever else you guys deem appropiate.
EOIII onward allows for an alternate color for each of the four portraits. Now excuse me while I explain every class we have available to us atm.
Those of royal blood from kingdoms large and small. Their orders raise morale to turn the tide. Supporting combatants on either line.
Princes (and Princesses) are above everything the party's buffers. Their abilites allow them to raise attack and defense, prevent against status aliments and infuse an ally's weapon with an element, amongst other things. They also have some in-battle and field support, being able to heal the party's HP with every step, at the end of every battle, or at the beginning of every turn.
Courageous and strong, they eschew armor to display their trained bodies and fight with swords and hammers. Vigorous attackers of the front line.
Gladiators do what a gladiator does. That is, hit enemies insanely hard. They boast the second highest STR stat of the game, and their skills are centered towards dealing damage, dealing damage harder, and dealing damage to multiple enemies.
Their golden armor gives them unequalled defense, while their spears provide a strong offense.
Hoplites are the guardians of the party, and their skills are centered towards protecting their allies. They can protect against elemental damage, shield a line of allies or one ally alone, and taunt the enemy to draw their attacks towards them.
These descendants of pirates learned to fight in gangs, supporting each other rather than dueling. Cooperative attackers of the front line.
Buccaneers are another type of physical attackers. Their skills are mostly geared towards supporting their allies, with their claim to fame being their chaser skills, which allow them to follow up on their allies' attacks.
They hide in shadows and use the art of ninpo, the advanced practice of which can create duplicates. Special attackers who work on either line.
Ninjas are, if anything, the most versatile class in the game and can fit a whole bunch of roles. They can deal damage, inflict status, duplicate themselves, or make enemies focus on an ally, amongst other stuff.
With the power of qi, they can both heal and inflict wounds. Their bare hands are stronger than weapons.
Don't let the description fool you. Monks are above anything healers. Sure, their fists may surpass weapons in some ocassions, but that only really happens in the lategame.
Scientific magicians who manipulate the etheric energy of the stars. Highly valuable in battle. Elemental attackers of the back line.
Atlus thought black mages were too mainstream, so instead we have astrologers. Besides that, there's not much else to them other than they can hit hard early on.
Their rapport with the beasts gives them command over many animals. Some can even control lions. Beastly summoners of the back line.
Wildlings are very special classes, focusing on debuffs and status aliments. However, they don't do the fighting themselves, and instead summon beasts to do the job for them.
Experts in giant bows and cannons as big as they are, the fire-power they provide is a worthy asset. Long-range attackers of the back line.
Arbalists <3. Arbalists are easily the best physical damage dealers of the game IMO. They boast the highest STR stat in the game and some really strong skills.
These farmers seek to apply their wisdom to navigating the Labyrinth despite their clumsiness in battle. Exploration specialists of the back line.
Farmers are exactly what it says on the box. They're not combat-based characters. At all. Instead, they mostly rely on supporting the party on the field.
These are all the classes we have access to. Now, how do you submit a character? Well. You just have to specify the name (10 characters max), the class, and the portrait you want for him/her. Some background/characterization for the character would be appreciated, for the moment in which I have to talk as them.
Here, I'll give you an example.
Shadie, Farmer, Portrait 3, Normal Color
A cowardly guy who got dragged into the guild for no actual reason. Has some sort of liking towards fairies. Really shy.
A cowardly guy who got dragged into the guild for no actual reason. Has some sort of liking towards fairies. Really shy.
Remember that the Guild's name is also up for suggestion. 8 characters maximum. Please no silly/lewd stuff, and I'd appreciate if you bolded your suggestion.

Party Members:
Anna - Enthusiastic and happy girl, albeit a little weird. Tends to say words in a strange manner.
Heart - Heart is addicted to gambling and card games...this would be a bad thing if not for the fact she has a permanent poker face to which no one can tell her personality by looking at. Which makes her very good at Poker. Her real personality is actually quite childish and flippant which is at odds with her looks. And she reflects her personality in her eccentric way of speaking in third person and upbeat tone of voice. She became a zodiac through the chances of being adopted by one when she was young and he using her as his student. However while she is talented she prefers to gamble rather than study how to do stronger spells. Usually only doing so when someone pushes her to or there's no gambling to be had. She joined the guild because her teacher signed her up for it as an attempt to get her to go make friends and find something other than gambling to love. While she gambles she doesn't drink oddly enough. And Heart is not her real name but her nickname.
Foxbox - A former investigator in an unknown country, after injuring one of his suspects badly, he was subsequently fired and wanted as a fugitive. Stealing a ship from the navy, he disappeared for a few years, all the while assembling his crew. A ruthless captain, he and his crew were caught in a trap by bounty hunters. Narrowly escaping death, he fled to Armoroad, and is now under the guise of "Foxbox." He joined the guild in order to find out more about the new land he is in, and for the chance of riches.
Some fun facts about him:
-His ship was named "Holmes"
-Talks in a strange accent
-Had rumors about blackmailing his suspects and clients during his time as an investigator
-Foxbox is not his real name
-Surprisingly, gets along with animals
-Had no parents, was taken in by a gang of criminals
-Likes Rum way too much
-Likes to lie and manipulate others
Crystal - From a kingdom made of pure crystals very far away,a kind and polite princess that has joined the guild because she was bored for being a normal princess who doesn't particularly do anything helpful in aiding others. She will try her best to support each and everyone during the adventures to be had. She has no intention to fight back, unless necessary. She has an angelic aura surrounding her, from where she draws her power, but it only happens when she feels very strong emotions, she mostly gets power by absorbing stuff in her crystal shards. These shards aren't really supernatural, just very advanced technology that have been given only to the king and queen of the kingdom, but she managed to steal those and run away successfully. She is pretty weak when fighting others and she's usually clumsy, but she's still trying her best to make herself useful. She's not used to seeing violence and even pities some of the enemies. Honest, elegant and kindhearted. How she has arrived to the ocean city is unknown, but she's very excited to participate in the guild.
Speed - Rather calm and collected at most times, he only releases what oculd be called, aura of madness/bloodlust during the heat of batle, completely changing his personality. making him smile like a madman, and act like one. Has a hobby of sewing. Likes: Sour food, and Strong people. Dislikes: Ugly things, and milk. Fears: Pranks, and beautiful women (or rather is very shy around them).
Eithlen - "Sweet summer children, how cute."
While chuckling, she listened to those kids talking about their definitely horrendous, traumatizing, special past that absolutely tormented them, o those poor shrinking violets and emo bananas.
"But we're not in an entertainment park, banana. You're not getting a free pass just because you happen to be so magnificently intelligent and adorable and yet suffer from that anime-styled backstory and try to act like an adult."
Doesn't have many stories to tell about her childhood, but always has a lot of snark to spare. And snack. Maybe.
Zeem - A seemingly quiet guy from far away, but once you get to know him, he's actually rather enthusiastic and kind. More forgiving than he ought to be. Has a particular fondness and love for green-haired shrine maidens. Rather naughty.
Manliman - She doesn't talk much, in fact I think she might be mute, besides for the occasional one word sayings. Because she doesn't talk, she is a mystery in how she appeared. Hits hard though, or something
Lykourgos - Asset:Intuition, Stoicism, Work Ethic
Flaw:Stubborn, Quiet, "I told you so" Attitude
Likes:Honesty, Sightseeing, Food
Dislikes:Alcohol, "Wasting his breathe," the Cold
Adept:Drinking Contests, Finding (almost) Anything, Handling Animals
Inept:Finding his Glasses, Battle Cries, Spending ("I'll need it later!")
Red - Upon the guild's first time heading into the labyrinth, they literally run into Red, who is returning alone with a small sack of gathered fruits and flowers. It's not her real name, but she's pretty much adopted it, in memory of one of her friends who'd teasingly called her that all the time. She grew up on a farm, and is sturdy enough to handle any assortment of chores, but she's better at avoiding combat than taking part in it. And with her keen senses she's actually pretty good at that, usually staying out of danger and often spotting a fine haul of rare goods. Life hasn't been all roses for her, of course, but honestly, that's true for pretty much anybody with any connection to the labyrinth, isn't it? She doesn't open up too much to strangers, but when she does have an opinion, she'll make it known. Strongly. She actually gets along rather well with the Napiers.
