So something I've noticed while using Remilia, the Death Fairy before Mokou occasionally drops a bomb instead of a life.
What causes this? According to Proto, it's not based on whether you bombed or died.
I ask because knowing will improve my IN Extra runs quite a bit. Thanks!

From what I understand, its based on whether the fairy is killed with your shot or with your bomb. Killing it with your shot will give you the 1-up while killing it with a bomb will give the bomb drop. You can still weaken the fairy with a bomb though (something I do because I'm not too consistent surviving the death fairy.

I know that if you can kill it successfully or time it out (hint: safespots) without bombing/dying, then you always get the 1up (though you don't get the point items from timing out).
I did some testing and I think the Fairy only drops the bomb if you kill it with a bomb. If you use a bomb to weaken it and then kill it with your shot though, you still get the 1up. Still not sure though, since I haven't tested this thoroughly.

There is some misinformation I want to clear up (that Glaceon Mage already knows about). This is irrelevant for her, but I feel like we should keep our "answers" proper and correct for future readers. The death fairy drops a bomb instead of a life if you're invulnerable when it dies. So if it dies with a bomb or with your post-death invulnerability frames; not whether it dies from the bomb or shot per se. It's close from what is said here, but not quite the same thing, really.
