www.playdiplomacy.com/Diplomacy is a game in which you take control of a European country (or more than one if you don't have enough players) at the beginning of the 20th century. The objective of the game is to take over as much of the world as possible and eliminate opponents - and you do this by devising plans and alliances with other players, then stabbing them in the back when you think it is appropriate. There's no dice rolling, just pure strategy, and having played it many times with my friends I enjoy the game a lot (even if I suck at it!) Each of the countries are balanced so no one country has an overall advantage at the beginning of the game (of course, those advantages and disadvantages differ per country e.g. England is difficult to invade or Russia gets more troops to start). I thought it would be interesting to play a game with the people here at Eientei. Sadly there are only seven countries, so I'll have to do it on a first come first serve but the game doesn't suit everyone's idea of fun so I'm sure everyone who wants to play will be able to. Game 3 Players: 1) Relick 2) Proto 3) Blitz 4) Aisuko 5) Vex 6) Crystal Clear 7) Dani

Diplomacy
How to Play
Units and Provinces:Each country gets two types of units: armies and fleets. Both types of units can move into coastal provinces, but only armies can move on inland provinces and only fleets into sea provinces. Each province has a name, and can either be occupied by one unit or no units - there is no province sharing. Units are semi-permanent - they can be destroyed in extreme circumstances, but more commonly they are created/destroyed during the build phase at the end of the year. Land provinces can also have a 'star' in them - indicating they are a supply point. These are important, as you can only have as many units as you have supply points. Moving into provinces without supply points does not give you more units, but you might want to use them for strategic purposes. Phases:
Turns follow in a specific order for each year, starting in 1900. Spring movement -> Spring retreat -> Autumn movement -> Autumn retreat -> Yearly build. For the sake of keeping the game moving, the movement phases have a deadline of 3 days and the retreat and build phases a deadline of 2 days. The difference between the Spring and the Autumn phases is that you cannot capture supply points during the Spring. The only time supply points can change hands is if your unit is inside the province after the Autumn movement phase - if you move through it in the Spring and don't leave a unit there you don't get the province. Movement Phase:
In the movement phase, you are able to give one action to each of your units, which once you have fully decided on you must press a button to finalise. Once everyone has finalised (or the deadline is reached) then all of the movements are evaluated at the same time - if someone else's moves conflict with yours then they will affect each other and potentially prevent you from doing what you want. Actions: - Hold -The unit holds its ground in the current province. It will count as a defence toward any attack.
- Move - Choose an adjacent province for the unit to move into. If the province is empty, and no other unit tries to enter that province, then the move will succeed. If the province is not empty, or other units are trying to move in, then in order to take the province it is necessary to support the moving unit.
- Support - If someone is holding a unit in a province, then in order for you to push them out you must stack the amount of force using the support order. In order to support, you choose the unit that is moving, and the province they are moving into. The only requirement is that the supporting unit is adjacent to the target province (but not necessarily the attacking army). Supports can also be used on holding units to defend a province, by selected them and then choosing the same province as a target. Supports stack, so 2 units supporting one attack would count for 3 counts of force - the enemy would need two units supporting their defence in order to hold. Supports can be cut if an enemy unit attacks your supporting unit.
- Convoy (fleets only) - In order for armies to be able to traverse waters (particularly important for England), fleets can be placed in sea provinces and ordered to convoy the unit across. The army should be told to move to the destination province across the sea.
Retreat Phase:
If a unit you own is in a province that has just been successfully invaded by an enemy, that unit must be retreated. They can move to any adjacent empty province that they would normally be able to move into, except for the province that the attacker came from. If there are no valid provinces, the unit must be destroyed. Build Phase:At the end of the year, the number of units must be balanced with the number of supply points each country owns. In an example, if France gained 2 supply points in the first year, then their total is brought to 5 supply points. They only have 3 units to start with, and so are allowed to build 2 more units. These units can only be built in France's "home" supply points (these are the 3 or 4 supply points you start the game with, if you are unsure), i.e. Paris, Marseille and Brest. If France already had a unit in any of those three provinces, they would not be able to build in that province. Countries are allowed to have less units than supply points, but never more units than supply points. In an example, if Russia lost 1 of it's initial 4 provinces, then during the build phase it would be forced to destroy one of its 4 units, in order to balance out. Coastal provinces offer a choice of whether to build a fleet or an army. Inland provinces can only build armies. Winning the Game:In order to win the game, you must get 18 of the total 34 supply points, or have all the other players surrender. For a slightly more elaborate set of rules, check out: en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Diplomacy/Rules if my slimmed down version confuses you. Strategysoonjust make alliances, and break em

I'm very interested in trying this out. I've always been a fan of these kinds of nation games.

Ok, that's seven people, so sign-ups are closed. If it goes well, we can run more games with other people, if they are interested.
I'll let everyone involved know by PM the game details once it is setup.

We can run the games concurrently, so I'll start taking entrants for the second round. If not all the slots are filled then people that are already in the first game can join the second too (since the more people the better).

Is round 2 still going to be a thing, btw? Sure! I'm thinking we should have shorter rounds, maybe 1, or 2 days this time. What do others think?

I'm up for another round. I like this game. Personally, I prefer 2 days. It'll be annoying to wait, but it'll be helpful to have a day spare in case of emergencies.

As the previous game is coming to an end, gonna start the next game soon. @vexman can I double check if you want to play this time? And there are space(s) left if anyone else who isn't already in the list for game 2 wants to join.
