Hello there again Eienplay kittens and bunnies and whatever part of the animal kingdom your particular breed belongs to. 愛 come at you to deliver a post of helpful quality as always. How to develop your cute self into something stellar and awesome is by learning from those benevolent souls who are in possession of richer knowledge and skills than your present self.
To find these, you must first sit down with a text book or two and learn Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Totally a reasonable thing to expect of any given person. Then you can communicate with the elite and have them help you join their ranks.
What, you don't wanna go through that? Welp, go back to silly scrubgames like Bloodborne and StarCraft then because this is truly too advanced for you. Or maybe just listen to good old Mouseboy as he reveals the knowledge accumulated over centuries...
How to Browse Royalflare!
First off, head to score.royalflare.net. From here, you'll see the different games in the series that actually matter. Choose the one you are interested in and you'll be taken to a different screen. Here the options are pretty straightforward and they even come with english little descriptions of what each button do. The most commonly used by mouses truly is the 難易度・キャラ別一覧 button which orders the scores by Difficulty level, then by character and then by score. Clicking this will take you to a screen where you can select the character you're interested in and the difficulty setting and then you're all set to browse the runs.
You can here choose amazing high scoring replays or look for survival runs to learn routes from. However it will be handy to know some japanese to decipher what a given replay is so I thought i'd put some of the most frequently used terminology here.
ノーミス – No-miss. A run that clears the game without dying.
ノーボム – No-bomb. A run that clears the game without bombing.
フルスぺカ – Full spellcards. A run that captures every spellcard in the game.
億 – Oku – Japanese counter for 100 million. Used a lot in the IN scoreboards unlike the others that use more western friendly digits. Don't worry, its easily decipherable. 60 oku is 6 billion. Simple as that.
NMNBFS – No miss, no bomb, full spell. Some japanese use this abbreviation.
NBNV – No bomb, No UFO summons. NV stands for No Ventora which I'm not sure why is used but this is what it means.
NNN – No miss, no-bomb, no-game specific thing that only scrubs would do
NBNT – No-bomb no-trance for TD
ノー低速 – Literally no-low speed. Means that the run was done without focus. Sometimes they call it NS for No-shift (at least i've seen Korean players do) which can be a bit confusing.
ノー上下 – No vertical. Literally; no up and down. A rare thing because its pretty retarded but some like to do it.
Xx封印 – 封印 means Seal so it basically means that what ever goes before it is sealed such as 低速、ボム etc is not allowed in the run.
全金/銀メダル – I've seen this on Fairy Wars. It means ”All Gold/Silver Medals” depending on the kanji used.
スコアバグ – Score bug. Used when someone in UFO reaches the breaking point of the score counter of 2.147-something billion.
ノーショット – No Shooting. That the run doesn't shoot basically.
ノーボムではありません – This means ”Isn't No-bomb” which is sometimes paired with no-shooting to indicate that its a run that doesn't shoot but it does bomb.
Now if you have any questions, just post em' and I'll answer them if i can. Don't ask me to translate things for you that makes me HELLA angry and if you're Nazrin then dig my new Chinese expression (shut up, Nazrin knows chinese, she's not a moron) 如果你愿意,我能老虎般的草你.
To the rest of you I say don't give up, do your homework, support me on my Patreon and enjoy your time on Royalflare's treasure trove of amazing runs. Oh and another thing.
pndsng.wwww.jp/touhou/highscores/index.php?th=12 – this little neat site is a collection of good scoreplays from Lunatic mode in all the main games. Sadly, it lacks Fairy Wars but its a good source, especially for EoSD, PCB and IN as it seems those games' highest scores doesn't get added to royalflare often.
Page defaults at UFO because that's what my bookmark links to, you choose the game by clicking the drop-down bar at 作品 and choosing your game. The game names are all in japanese but they are listed in order of release so it shouldn't be hard to find the game you're interested in. On this site, the characters used are written in Kanji which can get confusing to even me sometimes. Not that I don't know what it says, but because i can't remember who is Love Sign and who is Magic sign all the time.
The characters are listed under 機体 which basically means Airplane, probably a term coined in the area when shmups were populated by fighter planes instead of saucy bitches.
Well, this has gone on for long enough. Have fun kiddos, squidos and mouses.
