what are your thoughts on Kohaku's route? also, are you gonna/ already read Ataraxia/Kagetsu Tohya? haven't gotten there yet just need to pass akiha's route next b/c i kind of screwed up the recommended order of reading instead of Arc > Ciel > Akiha > Hisui > Kohaku i did Ciel > Hisui > Arc > Akiha > Kohaku b/c i love my senpai too much <3of course i will, but i just need to get the games from someone that does maybe i'll poke someone on skype for it ah, I see in that case, what are your thoughts on Ciel's route? also, IMO, Akiha's route is better before Ciel, cause I am pretty sure there were spoilers on Akiha's route by doing Ciel's route first

[/quote] yeah, the ending was weird to say the least... recommended route would have been better (though, I forgot a lot of things now) yeah that was so unexpected, I was like WORST ROUTE EVER!!! to WOW, WTF!?! WHAT JUST HAPPENED??
I actually forgot why I liked Akiha's route the best....

Personally, I like Ciel's route the best, but it had the worst ending. The final day was especially good, though tbh I would say it's more because of Arcueid than Ciel. The resolution (end of final day + epilogue) was awful though.
Hisui route is also extremely unbalanced like that. Most of the route had extremely horrible pacing and was really bleh anyway. But the epilogue is definitely the best out of all the routes.
I find Akiha route to be imbalanced too, though not to such extremes. Most of it is meh (not as bad as Hisui) but the final day is pretty good, especially the action sequence (still not as good as Arcueid on Ciel Final Day) and the epilogue was also really nice (still not as good as Hisui Epilogue). I am referring to the True End btw. Akiha route does not have a Good End, shush.
Arc and Kohaku routes are the two balanced routes of the VN. Of the two, I actually found Arc route more memorable, but this may be due to character bias. Kohaku route provides the most complete resolution from all the routes though, as to be expected for the route designed to be read last.

Proto would probably recommend Uminoko since you read Higurashi.

It does fit the bill for a mysterious and psychological game, I would say. I've been getting into VNs as of late. I haven't read too many yet, though. Notable VNs I've read: Saya no Uta Planetarian Little Busters 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors Danganronpa 1 and 2 Subarashiki Hibi Out of these the DR games and Subahibi are the only ones I would say I like considerably. Currently I'm reading Shingakkou: Noli Me Tangere (untranslated). I was also reading Muv-Luv but the game was deleted from my comp because reasons and I was finding it a hassle to reinstall, so I'll probably hold off finishing it until later.

Crystal Clear, you should finish Higurashiiiii In other news, I started reading Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni, another Ryuukishi07 VN. I just finished the second chapter and I'm really liking it so far. It's not quite as thought-provoking as Higurashi or Umineko (not yet, anyway), but it's still pretty creepy. And I also like this Beatrice-archetype better than Beatrice herselfIf anybody else here read Higanbana, can I ask how many chapters it has?

It does fit the bill for a mysterious and psychological game, I would say. I looked it up on vndb and it's marked as 18+. I'd be fine with it if the mature content is limited to just gore, but does it also contain nudity or H-Scenes? In other news, I finally finished the Sharin no Kuni fandisc (Yuukyuu no Shounenshoujo). I would like to thank Ariezza again for her tremendous effort in ensuring that my reading experience is free of inappropriate content. As for my thoughts on the SnK fandisc, well, I'm actually really annoyed at how they handled the heroine extended-epilogue routes and the characters involved. I love Natsumi's character here (she was my least favorite character in the original VN), and enjoyed her route quite a bit, but the remaining three routes were pretty boring and dragged out. I especially hate how they severely butchered Ririko's character, and to a lesser extent, Kenichi's character as well. More importantly though, the fandisc also has a Masaomi route and a short chapter about Nagumo Eri (the girl who was shot at the start of the original SnK for being 5 minutes late), both of which were really good and well worth getting the fandisc for. Though tbh, Masaomi route is quite predictable if you read the original SnK (which you really should have read before touching the fandisc). Now that I'm done with the SnK fandisc, I'm considering picking up Higanbana: Second Night and Remember11 later. As well as the Subarashiki Hibi that quukii mentioned.

Hi, I've been told that this thread is in need of bumping. I have played a good amount of VNs, you can check out my vndb profile if you care to know more about it. Right now, I'm playing eden* on steam and really liking it. Also I recently pre-ordered Seinarukana, very excited for it because the prequel was fun.

Right now, I'm playing eden* on steam and really liking it. Also I recently pre-ordered Seinarukana, very excited for it because the prequel was fun. Ooooh, that's quite a number of VNs! I'm looking through your list trying to find VNs to add to my backlog, but most of them are either VNs that I already read or they don't have an All-Ages English version. I don't suppose you'd know if any of those VNs have their lewd content as completely avoidable and skippable...? I noticed you have Fault Milestone One and Two. I never heard of those VNs, but would you recommend those? Rewrite as 10/10, eh? Interesting... In other news, I finished Never7: The End of Infinity yesterday. It was actually better than I expected, probably because I kept hearing about how awful it was. It's not an amazing VN, and it certainly doesn't compare to Ever17, but it's not that bad. It also helped explain a lot of stuff in Ever17, to the extent that I began to appreciate Ever17 even more after reading Never7. I would recommend Never7 for anybody who is willing to put in the time to read a less-spectacular-but-still-okay VN and is interested in the Infinity series, especially if they already read or plan to read Ever17.

I don't suppose you'd know if any of those VNs have their lewd content as completely avoidable and skippable...? I know a couple, like Muv Luv and Hoshizora no Memoria, are soon getting Steam releases that are very likely to be english and ecchi-free. Grisaia is one such game that has an All-Ages release in English on Steam, although I did not play that version. When I play I usually end up ctrl-ing through h-scenes anyways, I don't find that I miss a lot of the plot doing so. As for the fault series, that's a yes from me. It has an interesting fantasy + sci fi theme, and some fun characters. The first game is pretty slow and with a mediocre translation, but it helps set up the plot for the whole series. Milestone two is a significant improvement and has some well-written action scenes. Both games boast a great resolution, with 3D cinematographic CGs (not sure what the exact term is). Overall a definite recommend, both games are good to read if you're patient enough but the second has a good enough experience in itself. I tend to overrate VNs once I finish them and then come back later and rearrange my ratings. Rewrite was a fairly recent read for me, but I think it still deserves its rating on my list. One of the only games I was driven to 100% complete, but I guess that could also be my inexperience. Also the Ever17 series has been sitting on my backlog for a while now, maybe I'll pick them up after my read of eden.

Yeah, I wanted to read Muv-Luv for a long time, and I'm eagerly waiting for the official localization. I think Extra and Unlimited will be released next month, if I'm not mistaken. I don't have Steam, but I think I might go for it. Alrighty, I guess I'll give the Fault series a shot. Don't get me wrong, I love Rewrite, but I found it had a lot of issues. But it was exciting enough for me to read through it all in a week and complete it 100% too. A satisfying experience, but I wouldn't consider it to be a perfect VN. Well, if you wanna get into the Infinity series, I'd suggest starting with Never7. Unless it bores you to death, in which case you might wanna skip straight to Ever17.

My favorite VN, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, is also my favorite fictional story ever. A bitate to the party, but this summarizes my feelings about visual novels pretty well XD Besides that, I've read Fate/Stay Night, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Higanbana no Saku Yoru Ni, Corpse Party, and Danganronpa. I'm working on Danganronpa 2 right now. I don't know if it's true for every VN, but the writing for every VN except danganronpa I've read has felt incredibly slow compared to most books. I've still highly recommend all of them, they just take a bit of time to get going. This is especially true for Umineko- the first 2 episodes are pretty boring, the first you can skip over entirely and you really won't miss much, but episodes 3-8 are masterpieces. Ignoring FS/N, does anyone have any recommendations for something similar to the ones I mentioned? Edit: oh nooo I read the thread backwards... I wasn't paying attention and thought a post from over a year ago was made last month XP

Necro thread? My favourite is Symphonic Rain, the second half of it was simply too good... Saya no Uta and Period were also amazing. I really enjoyed Katawa Shoujo, Steins;Gate, Kikokugai, Rewrite, Ever17, 999 and Swan Song as well, though they could be quite uneven, particularly Rewrite which hired a completely worthless writer for two of the routes. Forest was interesting, Ultimate Boob Wars is a great fap, and the Ace Attorney games were fun. I hated Fata Morgana. I coudn't into Clannad at all. Some others I mostly disliked were Kana Imouto, Yume Miru Kusuri, Emily is Away, Teaching Feeling. Cross Channel file that one under "Re-read once I know Japanese" Since I can't read Japanese, the options are pretty limited, most VNs do not get translated... the untranslated games I want to read most are Subarashiki Hibi and Monobeno, the latter will surely never get localized and patched any time soon. Sekai Project is localizing a different Lose game, Maitetsu, but they intend to only butcher the game for the Steam audience. Then, there are so many others, that I can only ever read once I know jap Definitely do not miss Symphonic Rain

o shit this thread exists
y'all gotta try out fruit of grisaia if you haven't, that game is some good shit. its the first part of a trilogy of games, with the other two still in translation. legit like, all of the girls are well developed not only in their routes but in other the other heroine routes, plus the ost for this game is some high quality shit. my only complaint is there aren't enough choices tbh but the choices you do make matter a lot in the long run. dont pass up this game bucko

Ever17 is love, Ever17 is life. The game is nice and all during the routes, but the true route... Wow... That's just... wow... Also, Grisaia no Kajitsu is a masterpiece. Saya no Uta is another one of my favorites. Really creepy.
