Marisa listened to Mokou's words, she was angry, but despite the anger in her voice it quivered slightly as if she had been crying. Of course she had been crying. Wincing, the blonde stood up slowly and walked her way towards the silver haired woman, silently hoping that Eirin didn't return to the room and kick her butt for being up.
Marisa had never fancied herself as someone good at cheering people up. Sure, if people's troubles could be solved by saying something silly or doing something dumb then she could easily help, but if it was something serious, the witch would always find herself at a loss for words. Seeing someone as strong as Mokou like that, despite being expected, it wasn't any easier to take in. Who wouldn't be like that in a similar situation?
Gently, Marisa's hand found its way to Mokou's head. She should've known better than put her hand on a boiling pot, but she had gotten caught in the moment and bit off a curse when she realized the woman's head was burning, then again, it was nothing she hadn't gotten used to with all the explosions she got herself involved in when her calculations for new magical potions were wrong.
"Mokou..." She started softly, petting Mokou's head. "Keine will be alright, she's a strong person, you know that better than I do. I'm sure she'll bounce back in no time. Things might not look good now... but you're by her side, I think that's all she would ask for in a situation like this ze." Marisa paused for a second to think.
"One day, someone important to me told me 'Anger clouds the mind and tears cloud your eyes. If you can't think logically or see what's in front of you, then what good are you?'. She didn't mean we can't be angry or sad, she meant that before we seek revenge or grieve, we have to think on what we can do to fix things. If we're too angry to think, we'll end up being more vulnerable." 'Even I forgot that... If Lady Mima knew, she would kick my butt.'
"So, please calm down. All you can do now is stay by her side. When I get out of here I'll check on the Village and guard it and recruit some help if needed. For now, focus on being her support and leave the rest to me, when she gets better you can both kick ripper's sorry butt to your heart's content."
In Marisa's mind, there was a plan forming itself. She wasn't that great at cheering people up, but she was great at planning.

The green-haired fairy broke through the doors of the mansion of eternity, carrying the still unconscious Rumia. She stopped for a second, to recover her breath. Once she had done so, she slowly let her friend on the floor, looked around and shouted from the top of her voice... "Hello?! Is there a doctor around here?! My friend is injured and needs help!" --- The blonde vampire quickly climbed up the stairs that lead to the main lounge. She hoped that her big sis would be willing to play with her for a while, since she was so bored... The phoenix girl was a fun playmate -and she does not break easily like most of her toys-, but for some reason she didn't come today. Flandre reached the top of the stairs, and headed straight to the upper floor, where her sister's room was. However, when she was about to climb the stairs up, something caught her attention. A group of fairy maids were talking hidden behind a column, perhaps trying to not be seen. The young vampire jumped down from the stairs and floated down, getting near enough to hear what the fairies were talking about. "So yeah, apparently this thing has been going around, attacking people... I think some humans died as well." a brown-haired fairy said. "Wait. Didn't the head maid complain about some fairies getting attacked...?" "Yeah, I think she did. I also heard from some of my friends that one of the Three Fairies got bedridden as well." "Oh my goodness... Not even we fairies are safe. First the shrine maiden, now this..." " Meh. Boring." the blonde vampire thought, and turned around to head back to the stairs. "Speaking of that shrine maiden. Did you hear? Apparently that black-white magician got attacked as well." What the fairy said made Flandre turn around once more. " Black-white magician? Does she mean Marisa...?" "Really?! I mean, who would be stupid enough to attack that girl?! I mean, even the gatekeeper and the head maid have problems stopping her from entering the library and taking books away." "Well, dunno. I heard this from some friends of mine who saw Dai and Cirno talking with the buddhist woman at the temple. I don't see why Dai would lie, so it must be true." "What else did they hear?" "Well, apparently..." Flandre didn't stop to hear what the fairy had to say, and flew back to her room. " Marisa must be in trouble... ... She's my friend, and she's always been so kind to me... I need to help her! But big sis won't let me leave the mansion. I need to get out of here without being seen... But how...?" Flandre looked around her room, trying to find something that would help her get out of the mansion... She spotted something. " Of course! That will do!" --- Minutes later, a box with "Bad Apple!!" printed on it slowly slid along the floor of the main lounge. Inside it, a young blonde vampire was planning on how to get out of the mansion without being spotted. " Okay, let's see... The only thing I need to do is get to the door and get outside... Oh yeah! I'd need to get big sis' parasol, in case the sun comes out while I'm outside. Hmm... I think I can hide behind the columns... But I'll have to be careful with the maid fairies." At that moment, Flandre heard the door opening and quickly hid away, box included. The silver-haired maid stepped through it. " ... And I'll have to avoid my sister's dog too. Tsk." She quickly lead herself behind a column and waited. Once one of the fairy maids turned the other way, Flandre quickly went behind her and stayed there. The fairy maid turned around and looked at the box, confused. "What's this box doing here...?" The fairy lifted the box, uncovering the young vampire. "... Uuh... Young mistress...? What are you-- ACK!" the fairy cried and backed away once the young vampire took flight as fast as she could, and went straight for the door. She grabbed her sister's parasol along the way, and fired scarlet-covered danmaku as a way to cover her escape. She went outside the mansion, flew straight through the gates, and went as far away as she could from the mansion.

shadielth, I can't believe you did the thing x'D
She had closed her eyes and yet, no sleep came. She turned and tossed but she could only think of what had happened so far. The Village was unprotected and she was stuck there for no good reason. Sure, her body was hurting but it was nothing life threatening and she could move just fine so what was she still doing there? Reimu's words popped up in her mind. '"If you have energy to think about what could’ve been, then you should use it to fix the present.", huh...'Standing up quietly, the witch looked through the window. The sun was still up in the sky, she could tell it was still afternoon or, as her mind put it, still a buttload of hours still it was tomorrow morning. Her eyes fell on the small table next to her bed, her clothes were there, neatly folded with her hat on the top and her broom was conveniently laying against her bed. Marisa couldn't stay there for much longer, she had to act, staying on that bed wouldn't accomplish anything. Being stealthy and quiet was one of her many skills so, as quietly as she had stood up, she slipped her clothes on, put her hat on her head and grabbed her broom. After looking at the bed on the other side of the room for the last time, she climbed out of the window hid in a bush, hiding from the earth rabbits that were strolling around the garden. Using that moment she gulped down the pill Eirin had given her, mentally wishing that didn't have any kind of weird side effect and, when the rabbits were out of her sight, she mounted her broom and flew off. She had a plan, but she would need help. "...SA!" Someone was yelling something in the distance but she couldn't tell what it was. Where was she anyway? She couldn't say for sure, everything was dark.
"MARI..."
Ah... she had her eyes closed, that was why she couldn't see. She had to open her eyes so she could see...
"H-hey! Are you alright?! Can you hear me?"
She blearily opened her eyes, a blue haired girl wearing a green hat was looking down at her with concern.
"Wh---" "Gosh! I was talking to you one second and in the next you flopped to the ground." She extended her hand. "I told you you should've stayed in Eientei for a while longer. You're a human after all, you're all kinds of squishy."
Seconds passed and Marisa only starred, first at the hand in front of her, then at the girl. There was no expression in her face but her eyes showed confusion.
"Marisa? Are you alright?" The blued haired girl asked with a frown.
What was she doing there again? Even with her eyes opened and her senses back to normal she couldn't really say.
The other girl just stared at her magician friend. "Seriously, say something! You're acting weird." She stopped for a second and then added. "Weirder than usual."
Was she, now? She couldn't tell. She felt dizzy and sluggish, that was the only thing she was sure about.

Collaboration with Alzack
Eirin walked back into the room where Mokou and Keine were staying. As she approached Keine’s bed, she stopped and frowned at the nearby, now empty, bed of Marisa.
“Oh, I guess she saw herself out” Eirin thought to herself, slightly disappointed. “I certainly hope she didn’t take me seriously back there. Although, she isn’t the brightest girl I know….”
Eirin shrugged, and continued to her destination. Approaching the back of the bedside sitter, she spoke aloud, in her most comforting voice.
“Now, how is the patient doing? Is she sleeping well?”
"Yeah, she hasn't woken up since. Is this even sleep." said Mokou bitterly. "This really isn't going to heal completely...is it." 'If only I could trade part of my immortality...'
Eirin kept a smile on her face, and put a hand on Mokou’s shoulder. “Well, it’s true that her body will have scars. But the good news is that she should be in perfect physical condition within the next two weeks!”
Mokou smiled, albeit a little painfully. "Eirin. I'll destroy that monster with my own hands." she clenches her fist, "Its the least I can do for letting this happen. Please look after Keine for me" Mokou stands and heads towards the door.
Eirin tightened her grip on Mokou’s shoulder, holding her back. Spinning Mokou around, her gaze slightly darkened.
“Not so fast, honey. I didn’t come in here just to check up on Keine. I’d like to talk with you, for a brief while.”
Eirin loosened her grip, and her face lightened up again. “Now, pull up a chair, would you?”
Knowing it is meaningless to fight against the doctor. Mokou dragged herself to the chair next to Marisa's empty bed, and sat down wearily.
“Ah, thank you very much.” Eirin also sat down, in the chair Mokou was previously using. “Now, I understand that you are very angry that your Hakutaku friend was hurt, but I don’t think rushing right out for revenge is necessarily the best course of action. Rather, I believe some sort of plan should be instated, so as to gather as much information as possible, and ultimately bring down the beast.”
Eirin paused, and furrowed her brow. “Oh, I’m sorry, are you getting this? I really need to make sure you understand…” Eirin asked, with a rather condescending tone.
"No, I don't understand." said Mokou monotonously, "Last time I checked, I cannot die, there is no price for being reckless in my cause, in fact, I can gather new information with each time I die." Mokou looks up at Eirin, "Can I leave now?"
Eirin sighed, and replied “You forget, Mokou, that I am subservient to an immortal. I am immortal myself. I understand your plight. Yes, it is true you cannot die. It is true you are very powerful.”
Eirin clenched her fists, and raised her voice slightly. “But you forget, Mokou, that others are not immortal. Others are not invincible. So while YOU charge off on a narrow-minded crusade for revenge, others will get hurt. Others will die.”
Eirin turned, and glanced toward Keine’s prone body. Her voice softened. “Not everyone will be as fortunate as your friend...”
Eirin looked back at Mokou, and said “Now, will you please cease this selfish frame of mind, and try to listen?”
"I'm going alone" snapped Mokou, "Only Keine is dumb enough to want to protect me. I'm immortal, every battle-worthy person in gensokyo knows that by now. Everyone else is cowering in their homes."
Mokou flipped out a spellcard [Xu Fu's Dimension]
"I can even keep it trapped for an eternity" she hissed, "Besides what is it to me if others die. You're immortal too, you know that as well as I do. As long as your precious Kaguya is safe from the fingers of death, what is the death of non-immortals to you? They'll die soon enough anyway, a hundred years is a blink of an eye to us."
Eirin laughed, seemingly amused. “Oh, Mokou, how your moral compass has gone astray. It looks like your teacher friend hasn’t taught you quite enough.”
Eirin stood up, and put of a clenched fist. “There are so many things wrong with your argument, that I’m going to count them off one by one. You are free to offer a rebuttal.”
Eirin raised one finger, and took a step forward. “You seem to be under the misconception that you and I have similar concepts of time. It’s awfully cute that you think that, it really is. But here’s the problem, honey. You’ve been alive for merely thousands of years. You think that’s old? I’ve been alive for millions. I’ve seen so many things, so much death. And you think your life is worthy of this kind of apathy? Get off your high horse.”
Mokou stands up violently and grabbed Eirin's shirt collar, fingers flaming. The chair Mokou occupied fell to the floor with a loud bang.
"And so what , what have you seen that was so emotionally scarring that I could not feel it in the same magnitude. While you were a lunar sage, giving orders to kill millions. I was the one down there, with literal blood of millions upon my hands. I burned killed, and stepped upon those who begged for mercy. Hah. While you had the genius to grant immortality upon those you cannot bear to lose. I had to watch them die because I was not as naturally talented as you are!"
Eirin gently, but forcefully, removed Mokou from her collar, and scoffed. “You overplay your past too much, girl. You cannot merely hyperbolize your history for the sake of argument. Your temper is matched only by your naiveté.”
Eirin then raised a second finger, and continued. “Two: I am a doctor, as is made painfully obvious by many things around here. I help people. I save lives. It is my JOB to care about humans. I am personally AMAZED at the AUDACITY you have in claiming I don’t care. Can you really claim that after I have SAVED YOUR BEST FRIENDS LIFE?” Eirin’s voice got a little louder, and she took another step forward.
Mokou says nothing, but her angry glare faulters
Eirin frowned. “Nothing to say? Well, then, on to three and four.”
Eirin raised two more fingers, so only her thumb remained down. She took two more steps toward Mokou, and was now practically in her face. “You have all this sentiment for two people: Your father and your friend, Keine. Yet, have you never stopped to think of what they would like of you? You try and get revenge, but you merely sully their names with your actions. You looked up to your father, do you think senseless fighting would do him proud? Keine is a teacher, for children! What will she feel when she finds that your actions endangered hundreds of innocent lives?”
A mental slap in the face. "T-then what do I do? I can't protect Keine here, I cant revive fast enough to guard her in this state! If I don't go kill the monster now...then what do I do?!" Mokou pleaded, her head down, her fringe hiding her eyes from Eirin.
Eirin raised her fifth finger, and then smiled. She put her hand under Mokou’s chin, and raised it so they were looking eye to eye.
“What you can do,” Eirin said, her tone immediately back to that of a caring doctor, “is listen to what I have to say.”
"A-alright!" said Mokou, her voice quivering a little. How infuriating, getting told off at this age. "What is it?"
Eirin took a clipboard from a nearby desk, and handed it to Moukou.
“Please take this, and read it. It contains everything I know about the beast so far, but I fear it is not enough. I would ask you to accompany Reisen, and search for more information.”
Eirin looked at a clock, then sighed. “Actually, you’ll have to wake Reisen up. She’s in the 9th door to the right, in the third hall to the left out of this room.”
Mokou nodded obediently.

Utsuho looked through the windows of the Hakurei shrine and raised an eyebrow. "Well, it seems the shrine maiden isn't here," she spoke as she looked over at Sanae and Kanako. "Do you have any idea what we can do now?"
Sanae crossed her arms and closed her eyes, remembering the instructions Kanako told her about. "Well, Lady Kanako mentioned to us on the way here we should probably have a chat with Byakuren. Isn't that right?"
Kanako nodded. "Yes, that was what we decided on. Only I'm going to change the plans here," she said, looking seriously at the two girls. "I'm going to head to the Myouren Temple and speak to Byakuren myself. As for you two, please head down to the bamboo forest and visit Eientei. Something tells me that Yagokoro Eirin might know something about what's going on. Might as well just go and see, no?"
Utsuho tilted her head. "Eientei?"
"A clinic run by the Lunarians of Gensokyo," Sanae explained. "We should move there rather quickly then. You be careful, too, Lady Kanako! Try not to get into a heated discussion with Byakuren."
The goddess sighed, waving her hand. "I'll try not to. You two go on now."
"Of course! Ready Utsuho-san?"
"Am I ever!"
And with that, the three went their own ways. And hurriedly.

Song lyrics in the post is taken from the song Answer- written by kanoko, performed by Rekka Katakiri, G-Senjou no Maou Opening.
Tildes (~) at the beginning of a quote denotes singing.
Italic quotes denote Alice's inner thoughts. Italic quotes surrounded by " " denote characters' speech.
"~Ah, sinking into a muddy trap, but the truth is still t r a c e l e s s"Weakly fluttering was the pale glow from her tired light spell, revealing her tired eyes that saw as far as her tired hands, deeply shrouded in quietude. "~Ah, keep on searching for a reply, the answer still can't be h e l d".In this route tonight that was merely illuminated by sorrow, the fleeting sounds that chimed through the air were perhaps, the only thing that tethered her to reality. She felt her feet getting unsteady, her stomach rummaging like an army marching through a meadow, such shameful weakness not becoming of a magician. Her mind often failed to absorb the idea- more like the intriguing fact that she as a magician no longer needed food and drink, still persistently clung to the habits that probably could be described as pleasant. Such love for food, such love for the life she had been living for so long, so long... Was it selfish, pathetic self-indulging? Her train of thoughts drifted back into an afternoon spring, with tea and sweets sweetly danced on top of tablecloth whose patterns resembled fluttering cherry blossom, with silhouettes cheerily grinning behind pieces of strawberry cakes, someone's voice chimed in the air, giggling 'Hey, where are you?"."~Lost in the smiles, the darkness in people’s hearts, and d r e a m s."Was it weakness? The cold, unimaginably cold lifeless fences on the rooftop of a quiet house deep within silence, waves of pure white sheets flying amidst the winter light, someone's voice again echoed through, "Hey, are you there? Come on now, something really weird came up!"
Her feet kept moving forward, despite the strong urge to stop and rest. "~Do you want to be released, no matter the m e a n?"She so badly wished to drop herself down and felt into the embrace of Orpheus, right in this moment, no waiting, no delaying. Ah, how come these grass fields suddenly looked so soft, so warm, how did the ruthless night wind suddenly become so merciful? If her back touched the ground she would fall asleep right away, definitely, with no dream and no tossing over, simply falling in deep slumber like that terrible, neverending night that all started from just a firefly hunting trip. Those villagers wielding innocence as their only possession's faces flickered through her mind as if silently lamenting over their fates. She remembered their pale hands inside their paper thin blankets, the hellishly green sign on their skin laughed at her, was Marisa also in that state right now? Perhaps she had found help somewhere, this world held certain characteristic hospitality behind its eccentric curtains. Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps. "Young miss, please, please stay! Will you save them, please save them I beg of you, will you save them", with no mercy did the chief villager's plea penetrate her heart, as much as his tears penetrated her mind. If only she could find someone now to tell such selfish, desperate words. "You will save us, right...?"Their misty eyes that faded behind her as she turned her back, cried something more than despair. As if their tears may revive, what once were their beloveds. She wondered, if there are other people crying this moment, like those villagers? What was Marisa doing? Was she having fun? No, she probably had been fighting hard. All with that green sign afflicting her every moment. Was she alone, without anyone to look out for her? Perhaps no as well, though there should be no world in which Marisa knew no acquaintance-- Ah, if only they live in the same world. "Shanghai, why are you singing such sorrowful song?"In her vision that had begun to mist over, she saw her Shanghai, in the depth of its crystal clear blue eyes did a light shine like nothingness, its final notes trailing like a quiet sigh. The existence that came to be just for the sole reason of its master's selfish wish, was that a pathetic existence in and of itself? Are you mourning for them, Shanghai, those who have left this world? The doll's pitch that perhaps was high enough to hit the heaven, as if not noticing her, never stopped. Even when their footsteps came to a halt in front of the bridge that linked their path to the world below, the world of the hated. "~Just what is making you searching so desperately in this dark n i g h t?"The young girl, wavy bright blond hair as if sunshine in the dark, gazed on them with the eyes that was not welcoming in any definition of the word. Perhaps both parties had sensed the smell of battles in the air. Sorrowful, so sorrowful, oh battles that stinked with pain and love! I'm sorry, princess of the bridge, the one you were waiting for probably will never come. Yet, I have to fight, for the one I wait for might still come back. The darkened gates of the sole palace stained with blood shone in the dark, mixed emotions and sounds of beasts and animals were perhaps singing along with Shanghai's mourning. Perhaps even Marisa, in the wildest of her dreams, would never imagine her coming all this way, to the world embraced by darkness and hatred. She had gone to this, to meet the one whose eyes could see everything. "~I only hope that you are still you, and I am still m e."Shanghai's voice would perhaps never fade away, no matter what. If only that would be possible to ensure, in this day and time. Growing more intense by each passing seconds was the pets' screams shrouded in darkness, or was it her heart beating like the last day of her life, she could no longer tell. Shanghai, I perhaps, am mourning for those who stay.

ENTER THE BATMAN (just kidding)
The sound of footsteps broke the silence around a small wooden house situated in the middle of a large field of flowers. The footsteps were slow, as their owner strolled back after a long day tending to the various species of flora living in the garden. A heavy thump sounded as a watering can hit the front decking of the house. The carelessness with which it was dropped left it on its side, and leaking water.
The resident of the house entered, leaving the door wide open, threw her gloves onto the floor and lazily slumped onto the neat bed on one side of the room. On the way back from her daily work, she had considered doing something more in the afternoon; such as washing the dishes that had been stacking up in the sink for nearly a week. Times like these, she wished something more interesting would happen than just the repetitive routine of chores. Surely something had to be amiss?
The youkai thought to herself for a bit, and then remembered that something did catch her attention as she had walked around the field that morning. "The squishy people," she muttered with a grin. Up until two weeks ago, 'the squishy people' had been alive and well - then they made the fatal mistake of picking some flowering quinces for their loved ones out of the field. There's few things Yuuka Kazami cares about; however, touching her flowers is a death wish. Their bodies lay in a bloody heap on a path at the edge of the field.
This was bothering Yuuka, though. Why were they still there? Normally when such incidents happened the kasha from the underground would come and collect the remains. It would usually only be a couple of days before they were gone, but sometimes longer if the kasha was particularly busy. Two week's wait, though, was too long for it to be just a busy workload. Something was up, or at least, Yuuka hoped something was up. "Probably best to find out if she's ok... those people are spoiling the view," she said to herself as she picked up her umbrella and prepared to set off for the Palace of the Earth Spirits.
"Orin, I need you in my office right now!"
The words echoed through the halls of Chireiden, and just about reached Rin's bedroom. "On my way, Satori-sama!" echoed back to the satori's office. Rin breathed a heavy sigh and remained laying on her bed. 'This break is making me lazy...' she thought, then sat up and placed the book she was reading onto a stack beside her bed. Being a kasha had its benefits, there was plenty of stuff she could 'borrow' from the recently deceased. However, up until the last few weeks, she had no time to make use of the various books, games and music acquired over the years.
As much as Rin loved her job, she felt the time had come for a break. Some time just for herself, no job to worry about, no duties to attend to. And even though she was missing out on carting bodies to the fires, she was quite enjoying her relaxation, excluding the occasional interruption by her master. Rin calculated out loud how much time she had left to relax - "One week and four days..."
"ORIINN!!"
"Sorry, Satori-sama!"
Rin rushed out of her room and along the corridors, bursting into the small office. While Rin had expected her master to be in need of serious help, instead she was sitting calmly at her desk, signing some papers. She looked up, then spoke with a stern voice only a mother would use on her child: "Apparently you told Okuu you were too busy to play?"
"Y-Yes... I was in the middle of a really good chapter!"
"Well, that's no problem, she was bored and since you were busy I let her go above ground for a while. You can take over her duties while she's away."
"But I'm on bre-"
"I know, however, we're all quite busy here and it isn't much extra work. You can have a couple days extra break to make up for it."
"Alright! Thanks, Satori-sama! Is there anything else you-" Rin had been around her master for too long to be annoyed by the constant interruption of her sentences.
"Actually, there is. I've nearly finished this paperwork, are you able to deliver it to where it needs to be? Also, I-"
This time, Satori interrupted herself. She looked at Rin quizzically. Then, after a considerable pause, said something else. "It seems we have a visitor, would you mind seeing them in?"
"Sure thing, Satori-sama!" In a flash, Rin transformed into her cat form and pounced down the hallways towards the grand entrance of Chireiden.
-----
It didn't take long for Rin to reach the front hallway. A youkai girl creeped through the door. "H-hello?" Rin transformed back into her humanoid form, in order to do more than just purr. "Hi! Welcome to Chireiden!" Rin stared at the somewhat shocked girl for a second, then having recognised the voice, exclaimed: "AH! I know you! You're the one who was helping out the witch back during the incident..!"
Another awkward pause.
"That must mean you are a magician! That's super cool!"
The girl spoke again. "Y-yes, I'm a magician. I'm here to see the satori." A small doll flew in through the open doorway and hovered around the girl's head.
"Satori-sama? I think she'll be glad to finally do something other than paperwork. We don't get many visitors here, you see! Come with me."
The walk back through the corridors was silent. Rin considered starting some more conversation, but the girl appeared to be deep within her own thoughts. She decided it wasn't worth bothering her. Upon reaching Satori's office, Rin burst in without hesitation.
"I've brought our visitor, Satori-sama!"
The girl and her doll sheepishly entered the room.
"Thank you, Orin, would you mind making some tea for us?" Satori turned to the girl. "I feel we have a lot to discuss."

One minute, two minutes, three minutes and nothing happened. Her witch friend was just dumbly staring at nothing, completely lost in thought or… just utterly lost. What on Gensokyo had just happened?
This awkward situation was making her blood boil already, and her blood was cold to begin with. She just snatched a soaker from her belt and pointed it at Marisa. It was as good a time as any to experiment on her upgrades.
Pulling the trigger, the water gushed out of the gun with a strong enough pressure to slam against the blonde’s face and send her tumbling back to the ground.
The witch wheezed and coughed as she struggled to sit up.
“W—what the hell, Nitori!” “Don’t ‘what the hell’ me! I thought you just went brain dead for a moment!”
A snowball found its way to Nitori’s face. “Don’t call me brain dead, you cucumber eater!”
“How dare you! I was just trying to get you back to your weird self!”
Marisa stopped. What was she doing anyway? She just felt like she had fallen asleep for a second and then woken up to a blast of cold water blast to the mug. The magician fell quiet and rubbed her forehead.
“Seriously, what’s wrong with you? You passed out and then acted like a zombie. You wouldn’t even reply to me.”
The other girl waved it off and muttered. “I’m guessing it was Eirin’s pill. Seriously, those moon people are evil.”
“Are you absolutely positive that---“
“Yeah, yeah… About the motion detector devices…”
“I only need to install two more and we have most of the Village covered.”
“Are they that potent?” She asked, looking curiously at the big machines in front of her.
“Yeah.” The kappa patted her creation. “They’re also calibrated to activate if a magic user steps in their security radius.”
“Huum.” The blonde looked sideways to the kappa. “Isn’t that a little pot convenient? Sounds like a… what they call it, deus ex 'machinima' or something?”
“Oh, believe me, there are a lot of individuals concerned about their belongings being pilfered by magical thieves. Also stop breaking the fourth wall.”
Back in a certain mansion, a purple clad magician sneezed.
“I’m only borrowing! Well, whatever ze. I guess that it will be easily to monitor since there aren't a lot of magicians around.”
Nitori nodded. “Yeah, that was the idea. If I pick something up I can easily analyze it on my visionator and send someone to check. I bet the Myouren people will be landing a hand with that. I asked Hina to talk with them and we all know Byakuren wouldn’t say no anyway.”
“Visio… what’s that?”
“It’s like one a box that reads digital data and you can also play a card game named solitaire in it. It's pretty rad.”
“…Right… Anyway, with this cleared… I guess I should get my second part of the plan going.”
Marisa smirked. For the first time in days she now felt like she had everything under control.

this is fun~ Changing from Suwako to Yuyuko. So as a final tribute to my goddess-in-law, here's her making onion rings (blame Shadie):
Suwako hummed to herself as she wrapped dough around rings of onions she had laying down in front of her on a cutting board, licking her lips from the midnight snack she was about to consume. As the rings piled up in a bowl, she looked outside at the starless night sky.
"Hmm, I hope Sanae's doing alright," she said to herself, loading the rings into an oil-filled pot. "She seemed pretty shaken still...ooh, that makes me mad...how dare something attack my descendant..."
The frog goddess gritted her teeth, feeling disappointed with herself for letting that happen. "If I was there, I'd have protected Sanae...but then again...she's stronger than I really give her credit for. She's a living god! And everything turned out fine in the end, so it's quite alright. And right now, the old hag is with her, and I'm sure she'll be more alert in case things go awry, too. I have faith in them both. Utsuho-san, too."
Suwako sighed silently, a smile forming on her face. "Of course, I'll do my part, too. This shrine will not be attacked! And if it does, then the assailant will have to deal with me, and I'm quite cranky right now~ I'm sure they won't want to deal with that~ But for now, I'm hungry."
She then looked down at the onion rings cooking in the pot. "Ooh, I can't wait to eat these~"
There are a lot of philosophical questions people like posing themselves. Why are we here? Where did we come from? Where are we going?
But for Youmu, those questions held no interest, rather than knowing the meaning of life, the girl had three different questions she one day hoped to answer: How does my master manage to eat more than her weight in food every day? Why do I spend my time cooking when I'm supposed to be a gardener? And finally: Why am I so scared of ghost when I'm half-phantom?
A ghost that attacked the innocent… It disgusted her but at the same time, how would she react if she found said ghost standing in front of her?
The smell of burnt food invaded her nostrils as she looked at the rice she had been frying now getting engulfed in flames.
“Oh no!” She quickly grabbed a glass of water and threw it into the plan, successfully putting it out. The half-phantom groaned.
Yuyuko peeked into the kitchen curiously. "Youmu?" she started. "Are you doing alright in here? I heard you shriek."
“Y-yes, Yuyuko-sama!” Youmu stood in front of the pan, trying to hide her culinary disaster. “Everything is under control!”
But in her rushed attempt to hide the rice, she hit the handle of the pan, sending pan and rice flying and landing neatly on top of her head.
“GHHHA! IT BURNS!”
Yuyuko stifled a giggle at her servant's clumsy behavior, but she knew that something was amiss. As clumsy as the girl could be, Youmu wasn't THIS fidgety.
"Youmu, please come with me," she said, a rare serious tone evident in her voice. She turned on here heel and made her way toward the door, but she stopped for a second and looked back at the silver-haired girl. "And make sure to clean yourself up from that rice hat of yours. You look silly."
“Y…yes…” She was already crying inside. She was sure she would get punished for her clumsiness.
Grabbing a towel she cleaned the rice from her head and quietly followed Yuyuko.
Yuyuko knelt on one side of the kotatsu in the main room, sighing quietly. She was feeling quite hungry at this point, but she would let that slide for now. Youmu's well-being was more important right now. "Please kneel, Youmu," she told the girl, closing her pink eyes in thought.
Youmu quietly obliged, head tilted down, looking at her hands.
"What's going on with you right now? Tell me," Yuyuko commanded softly, her eyes still closed. "You're all over the place."
She raised her head, looking at Yuyuko. It felt stupid to admit it but…
“There have been some rumors in the Human Village. People have been attacked and fallen unconscious and they have yet to awaken. T-they say that’s a ghost’s doing and I…”
The half-phantom clenched her hands, looking down.
“I find such coward act detestable but at the same time… I’m s…. I’m scared. What if it attacked Yuyuko-sama and I couldn’t defend you because of my reprehensible fear of ghosts?” She added quietly, more to herself than to her master. “Why am I even scared to begin with…?”
"Attacks in the Human Village...? This doesn't sound good at all..." the pink-haired woman contemplated. "I wonder what's going on...I'll have to ask for more details in a bit..."
Yuyuko opened her eyes slowly and looked at Youmu quietly. "You worry too much, you know?" she said, smiling gently. "It's quite normal to be worried about something so ominous. Especially since this is something that emerged from out of nowhere."
“I’m worried, Yuyuko-sama.” She looked at Yuyuko again. “That seems pretty serious. I think both Reimu-san and Sanae-san are investigating it but… People seemed pretty scared. I wanted to help them but…” 'I ran like a scared cat.’
"Mm, and we can't just sit by here in the Netherworld while this is taking place...that doesn't seem right..." Yuyuko trailed off. "This is looking to be quite a dilemma...what do we do...what do I do..."
First things first, she decided, was to comfort Youmu. Yuyuko made her way over to her servant and embraced her, wanting to soothe the girl from her worries.
“Y-Yuyuko-sama?”
She wasn’t expecting that at all. Her face turned as red as Reimu’s clothes.
"You're too tense...relax~" Yuyuko whispered soothingly. "Don't worry, we'll figure this out together, okay?"
"H-hum. Yes..." Youmu closed her eyes, trying to will her blush out of her face.
The Konpaku family had served Lady Yuyuko before and she wouldn't be an exception. No matter what kind of enemy it was, would she try to harm her master she would be dealt with swiftly and without any mercy.
A low growl echoed throughout the room. Yuyuko's face turned red in embarrassment and she giggled slightly.
"Before we decide on what to do, could you prepare the meal again? I'm famished."
That was her master alright. Youmu chuckled and smiled at Yuyuko.
"Understood, Yuyuko-sama."
Yuyuko smiled and giggled as she watched Youmu get up and hurry inside the kitchen. Once she was out of sight, she frowned and crossed her arms. She was just informed about such a threat, and she currently had no other choice but look into this matter herself. Even though the information she got was limited, she knew that the situation could very well be out of hand already.

The blonde vampire used her sister's parasol for shielding herself from the sun, and then she looked back. The mansion was no longer in sight, and it seems the dog hadn't followed her. She sighed in relief. " Well... I did manage to get out of the mansion after all. That dammed fairy, ruining my plan..." she gritted her teeth and turned around. " Anyway. I need to find Marisa and lend a hand to her. She might be in trouble!" the vampire took off into the sky, without having any specific direction in mind. --- The vampire closed the parasol when the sun finally hid and it could no longer hit her. " Ugh... Just where is Marisa...? I've been flying around for so long and there's no signs of her... It's like if she has vanished..." Flandre looked around. " Maybe I should ask someone..." she locked her sight on what looked like a village. " Hmm... Maybe I can ask there..." she flew over there, and landed behind a house. She turned around the corner, and when she did, she saw a certain blonde magician. " Marisa!" she smiled, but the smiled faded inmediatly upon seeing a blue-haired girl besides her. " And who is that girl...?" Flandre jumped onto the roof of the nearby house and hid as well as she could. She watched as the unknown blue haired girl pulled out a gun and soaked Marisa with water. " Hey. How dare she...?" Flandre kept listening to the conversation. She couldn't hear much from there, and she could only make out a few words. Something about "magic users" and a motor sensor...? Flan shook her head. Why would that blue haired girl want to sense magic users...? Then something clicked on her mind. " That girl... She seems to know Marisa... And she wants to track magic users or something... Which means... She might be the one that attacked Marisa! And she might do it again." the blonde vampire took out an spellcard. The crystals on her wings gave off bright light. Flan stood up... " Forbidden Barrage [Starbow Break]!" she spread out her arms, and a barrage of rainbow colored bullets came out from her wings, heading straight for the blue-haired girl. --- “Well, I’ll leave this to you, Nitori!” Marisa waved her friend off and turned on her heels. Just when she was about to jump to her broom something exploded behind her, the wind knocking her hat off as she froze in place. A pained “GYAH!” could be heard through all the noise. Marisa slowly turned her head behind, gulping. The kappa was on the ground, sizzling. “Uuh….” “N-Nitori!” Marisa made a move to rush towards her friend but realize she’d probably get blasted as well. Grabbing her mini-hakkero, she frantically looked around. “Who’s there?! If you step out quietly I might not Master Spark you to the moon ze!” “Ma-Marisa… s-save yourself!” Nitori stretched her trembling arm towards the witch. “I’ll never leave you behind, Nitori! Now save your strengths!” The young scarlet sister jumped down from the roof she was standing in, firing some more danmaku at the kappa along the way. When she landed, she smiled at the magician. "I'm glad that girl didn't manage to do anything to you, Marisa~." she had her Laevateinn on hand, just in case the girl woke up and tried to do something to her. “Flan?!” Marisa lowered her hakkero, a look of utter surprise on her face. She passed by the KOed kappa, completely ignoring her and met the girl. “What are you doing here?” "Well... I heard that you got in trouble and got attacked or something like that. And since you're my friend, I decided to help you!" the vampire giggled. Marisa smiled and petted the vampire’s head. “Thanks, Flan. I’m fine, you don’t need to worry ze.” She pointed at Nitori without turning at her and added in a matter of fact tone. “Though, she wasn’t the one attacking me. She would get her butt kicked ze.” “ Uuh… You… you’re a jerk, you know that?” Flandre lowered her head in shame upon realizing her mistake. "I'm sorry... Still, I want to help you!" she raised her head. "Also... What is that glowy thing on your neck?" “’Glowing’… Is it glowing again?” She put her hand over the sigil. It seemed like the sigil was more powerful than what Eirin had anticipated. “When the ripper attacked me it left that on my neck. It’s a magic sigil but I don’t know exactly of what kind it is… I was planning on asking Patchy later, but it’s probably nothing to worry about much.” Though she was now starting to believe what had happened to her a while ago had something to do with it. She had to find a way to deal with that wretched thing once and for all but there were matters she needed to tend to before that. She raised her brows. “That aside, does Remilia know you’re here?” "The... ripper?" Flan tilted her head to a side. "Also if you wanna ask Patchy... I can take you to her, or something. Just to make sure nothing happens to you~." The young vampire opened her eyes wide and lowered her head upon hearing the last question. "... No... I sneaked away from the mansion... Big sis wouldn't let me go out, after all..." Marisa nodded. “I’ll take you on your words. I’ll need Patchy’s help later. Rather, I’ll need all the magicians I can find. I need to find Alice too, she’s probably locked in her house by now.” ’That’s what I want to believe anyway…’ She had a bad feeling, maybe it was because of that nightmare… She put her hand on her chin, pondering. “And maybe Reimu, we could use a test subject…” Her eyes fell on Flan when she shrunk at the mention of her sister’s name and confirmed Marisa’s suspicions. “You sneaked away? Without Remilia, Patchy and even Sakuya noticing you? That’s pretty impressive!!” Marisa grinned at how Flan could even get past the chief maid. “You’re a natural ze!” "Well... Uhm... My plan didn't work that well. I was planning to get away while hidden in a box... But a fairy maid discovered me, so I just blasted my way through. I think my sister's dog was in the way of my bullets, so I dunno. She didn't follow me, that's for sure." her smile grew bigger and her face lightened up. "Anyway, I can take you to Patchy now if you wanna. ... I'll stay outside of the mansion, though." Marisa thought for a while. She was worried but… “Alright. But I wanna check on Alice on our way there.” She frowned slightly. “Are you sure they won’t catch you there? If Sakuya saw you then she’s probably on the hunt right now.” Flan shook her head. "I'll be fine. Besides, if Sakuya tries to bring me back by force..." she raised her Laevateinn, and a long fire whip was created from it. "She would have to try reaaaally hard~" she giggled. She patted the young vampire’s head. “Yeah, just try not to be too violent. You’ll end up causing an Incident.” She jumped to her broom. “Let’s get goin’ then!” Flan nodded, put her Laevateinn away, and took off to the sky. --- A kappa was laying down on the ground, all battered up. Silent minutes passed by. "I hate that jerk."

Ninth door to the right, third hall left out of this room...Ninth door to the right, third hall left out of the room. Ninth left out of the right, third room out of this hall. ... 'I'm lost' Mokou takes a deep breath, right, 'I can't go back to Eirin now, she'll laugh at me.' Mokou continued walking down the Eientei hallway, glancing around nervously. Hmm this door...has a carrot plaque. Its this one! Mokou opens the door violently. In an instant, the door violently slams shut, and Tewi's voice can be heard from within. "Wrong room, ya moron!" Mokou jumps back, "W-whoa, Tewi?" 'How did she know I would get lost????? Nevermind, I'll get Tewi to take me to Reisen.' "Uh, Tewi, do you want to help me wake Reisen?" There's a slight pause, and then the door opens again. Tewi appears, smiling happily up at Mokou's face. "You mean she's still asleep? She's usually awake long before I am..." Tewi bolted down the hallway, yelling "Follow me!" Mokou smiles meekly. 'I wonder if this was a good idea...' and hurriedly follows after the enthusiastic Tewi down the hallway After turning a few corners, and almost losing Tewi amidst the seemingly endless hallways, Mokou came to a stop behind the tiny rabbit in front of an ordinary-looking room. 'Wow, I would have never found this one my own...' Mokou thought, as Tewi peeked in the door. "Awesome! Sleeping like a log!" Tewi whispered, and smiled mischievously. "She usually only sleeps for, like, a few hours each night. So this is a glorious opportunity!" Tewi paused for a moment to think, snapped her fingers, then looked back at Mokou. "Alright, here's the plan. When I say go, you pull the door open as loudly as you can, then yell something. Then I'll do my part." Mokou interrupted. "Wait, why am I doing this? Aren't you the one who was gonna relish this?" Tewi nodded in response, saying "Of course, but you'll do it much better. It'll be great, I promise. Now get in position!" Rather reluctantly, Mokou stood in front of Reisen's door, and put her hand on the door handle. In the five or so second between this action and Tewi's signal, Mokou was forming a feeling that maybe this wasn't a great idea. But, that didn't quite take substance by the time Tewi whispered "NOW!" Swinging the door wide open, Mokou began to yell "WAKE UP, LA-". But couldn't quite finish her sentence. Reisen, who had been sleeping rather soundly until this moment, jumped up in an instant. Yelling something along the lines of a tired, garble, "GAH, SHIT!", she instinctively fired a salvo of danmaku in the noises general direction. Mokou didn't quite have the time to dodge it, but she turned her head just enough to see Tewi hauling ass down the hallway, laughing maniacally as she did so. Then the bullet collided with her face. 15 minutes later, Reisen exited her quarters fully dressed and ready to go. Although she had a rather rude awakening, she seemed well-rested and ready for the day. Mokou was sitting outside of her door. "Ah, uh, hello Mokou" Reisen tentatively greeted Mokou, while fixing her tie. "Sorry about, well, shooting you in the face. Old habits." Mokou stood up, and replied "Yeah, no problem. Sorry for scaring you." "Yeah, no problem." Mokou handed Reisen a clipboard, and filled her in. "Eirin says we should go figure out more stuff about the monster. This clipboard has what we already know." "Sounds good" Reisen replied, scanning the sheet. "Well, shall we be off then? Follow me." Both girls stiffly walked to the front door, both silently plotting their revenge against a certain small rabbit.

Reisen and Mokou were just approaching the front gate, when two fairies burst in. There was a youkai lying on the floor, unconscious.
"Hello?! Is there a doctor around here?! My friend is injured and needs help!" the green fairy yelled, seemingly distraught.
Reisen jogged over to the group, as Mokou stayed back a bit. Reisen began a standard doctors greeting, then realized who they were. “Hi, no need to yell. What’s the iss- oh, it’s you guys again.”
The ice fairy looked at the lunar rabbit, thinking for a second. "Oh hey. It's weird Bunny Girl again! And Fire Hag too!"
Dai facepalmed, and shook her head. "Uhm... My friend, Rumia." she looked at the body of the unconscious youkai. "She got attacked. ... By the culprit."
Reisen gave Cirno a sideways look, and then kneeled down to Rumia’s prone body. Checking her pulse, then checking her eyes, she gave a worried sigh.
Turning to Dai, she frowned, pondered for a moment, then decided to just be blunt. "Hrm. Well, the good news is, that she's not really in any immediate danger. She's physically healthy, and not about to die or anything. The bad news is, this looks a lot like a coma to me... she might be asleep for a while." Reisen put her hand on Daiyousei's shoulder. "Take her to the waiting room, straight down the hall to the left. Eirin should be with you shortly, if you yell for her."
Reisen started to move her hand and stand up, then paused. She then looked straight at dai, and said. “Alright, Daiyousei, was it? And you too, ice fairy. I apologize for the other day… my outburst was out of line, and should not have snapped like that.” The green-haired fairy slowly listened to Reisen's explanation, then lowered her head. "I... ... I see... Thanks. And don't worry about that, it's fine..." she smiled, grabbed Rumia and headed straight for the waiting room.
"You better not mess with me next time we meet, or you're gonna regret it!" Cirno said, and quickly followed Dai.
"Of course, now shoo" Reisen called after them.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two fairies, carrying Rumia's unconscious body, reached the waiting room. Dai was the first to enter it, looking around it, hoping to find a doctor... Or someone who could help, really.
"H-hello...?" She timidly asked. This was her first time going around here after all, and this place didn't have good reputation among the fairies. "Is anyone here...?"
Eirin had seen the fairies come in, and had already prepared a bed. This had been a very busy day. Calling from a side room, she yelled, “Yes, over here. Please, do come in”.
Dai motioned Cirno to follow her, and stepped into the side room, greeting with a bow. "Uhm... Good afternoon, miss... You see, my friend..." she looked at Rumia, who was being carried by Cirno at the moment. "Well... She got attacked."
Eirin gave them her perfect doctor smile, and said “Hm, yes, that does seem to be happening a lot lately, doesn’t it?” Motioning to Cirno, she continued “Now, please lay her on the bed so I can take a look. Please, be careful.”
Cirno slowly went into the direction of the bed and laid Rumia down on the bed. That said, "being careful" wasn't exactly one of her most notable traits, and she almost dropped Rumia to the floor. Dai simply covered her face with her hands.
“Ah, well, I suppose that will do.” Eirin chuckled, and then walked over to the bed. Feeling Rumia’s forehead, she could tell it was warmer than normal, even for a youkai. Her eyes were dilated, and her breathing was abnormal. Eirin prodded a few parts of her body, then snapped her fingers near Rumia’s ears. Taking out a stethoscope, she began to monitor Rumia’s heartrate.
Dai silently watched Eirin as she was taking a look at Rumia, with a worried look on her face. Strangely enough, Cirno was also pretty calm, but she didn't seem worried... At first sight, anyway.
Eirin, finishing up, took the stethoscope out of her ears. Turning around, she addressed the two fairies. “Well, I have good news and bad news…”, she started.
Cirno crossed her arms over her head. "If the bad news is about how Gloomy over there is in a coma or something like that, the Purple Bunny already told us. So just tell us the good news."
Eirin laughed, and replied “Well, I suppose this diagnosis is easy enough for Undonge to do it. But she did miss one important thing, which is rather obvious if you ask me.”
Eirin picked up a clipboard, and continued. “While this is indeed a coma, it’s a little more complicated than that. The monster that did this has a unique ability to drain the life energy of all manner of living things. This can, as you can see, induce a coma in those it’s used upon. Unfortunately, the magic behind this is very old, and no one seems to know anything about it… which is precisely what I sent Reisen off to figure out.” Eirin paused, and turned to Cirno. “But, I’m sure you figured this out already, no?”
Cirno crossed her arms and thought. "Wait, didn't something come out of me when that weird thing grabbed me while we were fighting in the forest...?" she thought.
Dai turned to Eirin. "Well, we talked with Ms. Byakuren... And yeah, she told us about how the magic was very old and..." suddenly, Dai realized something. "Wait! Uhm... Is Marisa around here? We have to tell her something very important about that magic sigil on her neck."
“Actually, Marisa checked herself out a little while ago. Didn’t even say goodbye…” Eirin smiled, and continued, “In any case, I still have more to say. The good news I mentioned is that, as of now, your Youkai friend is in no danger of death. But this doesn’t mean you should rest easy, as I don’t know how long the coma will last.” Eirin paused again, then turned to Daiyousei. “Actually, green fairy, you said you knew something about Marisa’s mark? Is this something you could relay to me?”
"Uhm... My name is Daiyousei, not 'green fairy'." Dai lowered her head. "That sigil... If I remember correctly, Ms.Byakuren told us that it's made by some dark magic... And also that..." Dai stood in silence for a second. "That sigil keeps draining Marisa's life energy little by little, even if she does not notice it. And... The sigil also serves as some sort of... uhm... what's the word..." Dai shook her head. "If the culprit is near Marisa, or viceversa, the sigil will react. The thing is, if we don't remove that soon... Marisa will probably die."
"Hm, not much I didn't already know, I suppose." Eirin kneaded her forehead. "Well, she should be in less danger of dying from the sigil. I gave her some medication to stifle the magic power of the mark. Still... I wish she hadn't left so soon..." Eirin took Dai's hand, and said "Daiyousei, what is? If you could do me a favor, go look for Marisa for me. I am much too busy to do it myself, but I still worry for a patients well-being. I will take good care of your friend here."
Dai avoided looking at Eirin's face. "Well... We were planning to go after Marisa anyway... We have to tell her what we know, and fast. We don't have the slightest idea of where she is, though..."
Eirin stood up, and proclaimed, as she led them both out the door, "Well, I wouldn't worry about that. I suggest you start looking for her right now. Who knows, you might just get lucky..."
"Lucky...?" Dai tilted her head. "Anyway, thank you for your help... And please look after Rumia." she bowed, and headed back to the entrance, Cirno following her closely after waving goodbye.
Upon exiting Eientei, the fairies took flight, in order to find Marisa as quick as possible.
fairly close behind the fairy duo, Tewi flew excitedly. She was bored, and this group seemed interesting enough to pursue. And mess with.
This was going to be FUN.

Marisa landed in front of Alice’s house. There was no light inside, she peeped through the still opened curtains and saw no dolls bustling around the place. There was only darkness and silence.
“She’s not home, huh…?” Rather than sounding disappointed, the witch sounded worried.
Flan landed besides Marisa.
"Maybe she's sleeping or something...? I mean, you humans aren't nocturnal, right?"
“Oh, no, she isn’t a human and she would still be up at this time of the night.” She added in a very cool and strict voice, giving her best Alice impersonation. “’Magician, please. Humans are too limited to use magic properly. Yet I like to drink tea, eat cheesecake and sleep so I’ll stick to that.’ Ugh, where in hell is she?!”
Flan laughed at the impersonation. Even if she didn't know the person itself, it seemed very funny to her.
"Well... I'm sure that wherever she is, she'll be fine. Now, shall I take you to the mansion~?"
Marisa let her arms slump at her sides, sighing.
“Yeah, let’s get going.”
They flew off, chit-chatting their way to the SDM, Marisa appreciated the distraction.
“Hum, but concealing yourself in a box… That’s an awesome idea! How did you come up with that one?”
"Well... How do I put this..." Flan rubbed her chin. "Well. If you hide yourself in a box, people or guards that pass around you would just think it's a normal box and would not worry about it. That way you can sneak past them with no problem. Also I think there were some military books in Patchy's library that described that technique... Can't remember." Flandre shrugged.
“Military, huh… Wars must be weird in the outside world…” She frowned.
She looked at how happy Flan looked and smiled. ‘Even if she has trouble controlling her powers, Remilia should let her get out more. Being stuffed in that place all the time…’
"I guess so... It's not like I have much interest in the Outside World... Most humans I've seen were all drinks so..." Flan's face darkened a little. "Marisa. If the thing that attacked you appears again... I'm going to break it." Flan's face lightened up and she smiled. "I promise~."
"Flan, it's really important you control yourself. I don't want innocent people involved nor I want you to get in trouble for it. No matter what happens."
"But... What if that thing attacks you again? I mean, you're already bad, right? What if you get worse? Or..." Flan lowered her head, and her voice tone lowered. "What if you die..."
Marisa stopped on her tracks.
"Flan, I'm fine." She petted her head. "I'm not going anywhere, alright? I count on you to help me, but think of this as a way to learn how to control your powers." She smiled. "We don't know who and why this person is doing this. We can't just decide to kill her... Even if..." She frowned remembering Keine.
Flan stayed silent. "Alright then... Just... I don't want anything to happen to you, since you're my friend..." she rubbed her teary eyes. "Anyway, let's hurry to the mansion, so that you can ask Patchy about all that. Last one who arrives is a fairy!" she flew at the highest speed she could, in the direction of the mansion.
The witch smiled and ran after.
"Oi, it's not fair if you start first!" She laughed.
She landed after the vampire.
“That was a cheap-shot! Now I’m Cirno.” She faked disappointment and then added “So you know where to hide?”
Meanwhile, on the Bamboo Forest, an ice fairy sneezes.
The young vampire tilted her head to a side. "Cirno...?"
She shook her head after hearing Marisa's question. "Maybe on a tree or something... No, wait. I have an idea!" Flan concentrated energy around herself, and transformed into a bat. Sadly, she went back to normal a minute later or so. "Aw... I can't stay like that for long..." she pouted.
"Why's that?"
"I don't really know... Must be lack of practice, since I don't tend to do it... Or maybe I'm just inexperienced. Anyway. I'll just stay around here until you come back, then."
“Gotcha.”
"You have fun there. And don't borrow too many books~." she giggled, and took flight in order to hide somewhere near.

DM entry starring Aki. (Cuz we all know Sakuya wants to be part of the group.)
The witch walked her way towards the front gate. Today she wasn’t here to borrow books, there was no reason to hide. In front of her stood Sakuya, by the look on China’s face she had been scolded again for not doing her job. Why did they even needed a gatekeeper to begin with, Marisa didn’t know.
“Picking on the weak this late in the night, head maid?” Marisa grinned as Meiling glared at her.
"I don't think trespassing is something to be proud of either."
“I'm not trespassing today. I need to talk with Patchy."
Sakuya looked mildly surprised "Is that so? I believe it would be about this time's incident?"
Marisa's face turned serious. "Yeah... There are some questions I want to ask her."
"I see." Sakuya nodded curtly, "I was intending to do so as well." Sakuya stepped to the front door, taking out a ring of old fashioned antique silver keys. With a flick of her wrist, turned and unlocked the double French doors, and stepped to the side.
Quietly, the pair made their way to the center of Voile. As soon as its owner became visible, staring quietly at a book resting on a table full of parchments and other old tomes, a voice came.
“How unexpected, the black-white rat has entered through the front gate. I suppose it’s because you have other businesses in mind other than stealing my books.”
“I don’t steal them, I borrow them ze!”
Patchouli raised her eyes to the witch in front of her, looking directly at her neck.
“I wonder how someone like you managed to escape from the culprit.”
“Dazzled by my good looks?” “It certainly wasn’t because of your outstanding magical abilities.” The magician her book down. “Let me see it.”
The blonde obliged, crouching a bit so that Patchouli could take a better look on the offending sigil. Her eyes drifted to the scrolls the purple haired girl had been writing on.
“So… do you know who’s behind this?”
“Not quite. Incidentally, you are asking the wrong question.” She retreated back to her position, apparently content with her analysis. “While there is certainly a ‘who’ behind this, the correct question at this time is ‘what’”.
Marisa frowned, sitting down next to Patchouli, waiting for her to continue. The purple clad magician grabbed a paper with a sigil on it.
“I copied the sigil on one of the fairies before it disappeared, apart from being clearer than yours, it is undoubtedly the same. Like finger prints, magical sigils are unique. To the untrained eyes they may look identical, but if you deconstruct them you will see that they hold a bit of the caster’s identity enclosed in them.”
She removed a sheet of paper from between one of her books and put it in front of them.
“That’s one of your spells.”
“You can tell because of these markings here, am I correct?” Her finger pointed to a set of runes inscribed in on inside of the sigil’s borders.
Nodding, Marisa added. “Hum… But aren’t all sigils like that? I mean, they’re composed of basic formulae and shapes, while you do need to understand how they work, it’s what you add that shapes the spell.”
“Indeed. Then, why is this sigil working, if there is no identity to it?”
Marisa’s frown grew bigger. “The ripper isn’t a magician.”
“Correct. Something is giving your ripper this power. And that is what will lead us to who is behind that.”

On the cat girl's corner of her lips there lay a single, kind smile, as if a piece of the world above's sun had come to rest within her as she, with one hand, opened wide the door to the ever so infamous palace. The place where everyone from years to years relentlessly whispered terrible things into others' ears, borrowed the wind to pass on such messages bathed in cruelty and sadness. Did she participate in it as well? Such image escaped her memory so easily...
Her little companion shifted uncomfortably on her shoulder. The place felt ill, so ill- from the ill scent it possessed that boded an ill future, the ill sense of style that showed itself in ill pictures strangely drawn, hung themselves upon the wall with an ill-matched order, all of it, all of them- felt as if a terribly sick little world, not belonging anywhere.
"It's fine, Shanghai".
Don't be afraid, Shanghai, don't be afraid just simply because this here is a place we have never reached.
The footsteps of her and her escort, the catgirl who seemed like such a country child, erratically reverberated between primitive walls. She found herself stealing glances, such a bad yet tempting habit, probably the first time she had seen a hell cat up close like this. The blazing hair of her, the sharp glances that were in stark contrast with her innocent grin as if questioning something, ah, for the longest of time, this place probably have never had guests, eventually led her through the door that hid someone behind its safety.
The one whom she came to meet, the one who even hateful spirits fear, was right there. In blood and flesh, not in mean-spirited stories people liked to tell.
Wavering hair whose color resembled that of a rose tenderly opening its petals, gaze that was somehow, always, always slightly off the other one's eyes, pale skin that perhaps was never exposed to the sunlight, the one people feared was sitting there, by the desk, next to a mountain of paperworks, in the form of a child that would probably reach her nose standing up, at best. The third eye, the magical third eye that was the source of every rumor, was almost looking past her.
Don't be afraid, Shanghai, don't be afraid just simply because this here is someone we have never known.
"Ah, I'll be right back!", with a beam as bright as ever, the cat girl hastily bowed so deeply, and as it briskly left the room she was certain it was perhaps skipping on his feet- a manner so bright, so cheerful, just like---
Just like...
Deep inside her thought, she failed to catch the mistress' frown as she took a deep breath, yanking her out of her reverie, "Miss puppeteer".
"Miss puppeteer, welcome to Chireiden. We rarely have guests. I have to wonder what twist of fate had brought you all the way here."
Such irony it was- for someone able to know everything to ask that.
"Yes, it's my pleasure to meet you, miss Komeiji Satori, of the satoris. My name is Alice Margatroid."
The books in the small one's slender hands, the object that she finally set aside, formed a dull sound, resounding between tiny walls.
Her gaze was sharp. Quietly sharp. It was not something that stared- it was something that pierced and sliced. As carefully as possible, Alice sat herself down in the only chair left, next to the bed, alongside her only companion, carefully observing each of the changes in her conversation partner's attitude. From the direct angle, she seemed somehow...
"...The pleasure is all mine, miss Margatroid."
...So normal.
Even to this point, the girl who even the vengeful spirits feared, never looked at her straight into the eyes.
Isn't it very lucky of her, being able to hole herself up in this lonely world? Immune from that dreadful incident, immune from all pains that others might be enduring...
"That indeed was a dreadful incident afflicting the above world".
The conversation partner that until this moment was always looking one tad off her eyes, to the left, slightly arched her eyebrow. This feeling of being seen through, despite the other party simply making the choice to ignore everything for some reasons pasted her saliva with a taste so bitter, as the chair that seemed to wholly cage her felt more and more stiff.
In the world that had closed its door, the door that separated the loved and the hated.
And her fears again, streamed like crimson.
"Miss Margatroid, I am now aware of the incident that worried you", and again, the mistress carried on, without waiting for her to collect her messy thoughts.
It actually worried the whole world.
"The whole world actually does not exclude me."
"...My apologies."
The girl's slender jaw slightly declined, yet the gaze of hers, despite never being straight, did not waver even in the slightest, as if silently inquiring. How ironic it was, for someone able to read everything from the opposite person to 'inquire' something like that...
The sound of books being pushed away on the desk.
"For someone who has come all, all the way to the strangest place of all places to seek assistance, you are a little compliant, aren't you?".
Amongst the blurry silhouettes that haunted the back of her mind, only a single one was still visible...
"Because of that shining shadow in your head, you made your way here. Because of that shadow, you braced yourself to face the girl even vengeful spirits feared. Because of that shadow, you kept quiet, put yourself in the position of the one in need of dire assistance. Am I not correct, please tell me?"
The sound of spoon touching the perfectly clean, yet perfectly empty glass came between their silence that probably had lasted for millenniums in fact. The footsteps of the one who respected the silence as she came in and left, the heat and light gray smoke of the tea, all emitted such a bitter fragrance.
"Why do you still ask me this, miss Komeiji? I believe you have known everything you needed to know, as you stated. You should have already seen everything... Those who were hurt, are and probably, will be hurt".
If you had already been blessed with such information, why are you still asking everything?
That someone, for the first time, directly stared in the depth of her eyes. And it was, for the first time, that their eyes actually met. The depth of the pair of eyes that saw nothing compared to what made her notorious, seemed to yearn, to absorb, to swallow them all, swallow a fact that she expected.
"Probably, it was the difference of the feelings deep inside and the words outside, that defined a creature".
Such a cold world, as cold as the sound of crystal being constantly hit, the sound of burning hot tea gushing inside, without a single second's sparing.
"People who face someone such as myself knowing about this infamous ability, would most of the time, attempt to say all the truth. Straight-forward and brazen, to use the words of that memory Hieda child. And yet, there are those who know, and yet still lie".
"...?"
The silence that held a visible question mark reigned control, as the little one again broke their eye contacts. For the last time, as she took a deep breath, quietly muttered, "Miss Margatroid, why did you come to Chireiden of all places, to seek for the assistance you need?".
"Because", she again swallowed back her saliva difficultly, "We are now in need of all strengths we could gather to face this ripper. Many innocent people had faced cruel fates, and soon it would run rampage everywhere".
As she made sure to emphasis on "everywhere", the other one seemed to clearly catch it. Perhaps even before she actually said the words.
And the smile the satori flashed at her was simply as bitter as all of her pasts might suggest.
"...?", slightly distracted from her initial goal of conversation, she had started to realize, yet the sense of curiosity was so pleasant. As if, she would like to stay and hear more, more, and more.
"Well. If you wish to ask me, who was behind this, I do not know. Even with this power, my knowledge does not reach that far out, to the world above, or more sufficient to say, further than the little world immediately around me. My apologies".
"Still, this is dangerous time. I believe making effort to try and fight together will return favorable results to all of us. Your power will become a valuable asset---"
The depth of the mistress' eyes turned shallow, and it did not take a mind-reading power to be aware of the slip in her words. How beautifully ironic, the valuable ability of the satori!
And yet the satori was still calmly quiet.
"Again, I am sorry if you had come to me in search for the one behind this. I am able to read your mind, though, I know as much as you do at best. While, yes, let's be honest and not deny that I have some other powers..."
The last words of the irrational explanation quietly trailed off.
"...Miss Margatroid, I somehow think that if I come back to fight with you, they will think of you as that random creature's accomplice~".
Even while she did not have any tea, a quiet, bitter sensation, somehow filled her tongue.
"A servant of mine, Okuu, had left for the above world a while ago. If you meet her, you may take her with you. Orin as well, though it's Orin's decision, please talk to her yourself if you wish to bring her along. I would try to research the information you knew about the incident in the documents that I have my hands on. I hope that will be of assistance to you".
In the other one's voice as she gently mentioned all of the possible assistance, she had seen the quietude of a shining shadow. Sights of angry spirits. Sights of strange creatures rarely seen above the ground. The sights, the pasts, presents and futures of the hated. Sights of bitter kindness buried underground.
"And, there is---"
Sights of another shining shadow lurking behind that single one's broken eyes and shattered words, behind the fidgety fingers playing with the empty cup of tea, behind the drooping, gentle eyeball that gleamed in blood red. Sights of striking pictures with such powerful presence and messages, sights of handmade dolls barely fitting a palm, with tiny, pitiful pieces of silk interlacing as if representing tiny, pitiful pieces of memories, futures and fate. Sights of books clashing in preference, sights of two pillows in lavender and crimson lying side by side, of two quiet wooden chairs, of wardrobe divided into half, of---
The sound of crystal clear mug half-empty collided into the table briefly, tainting the clear table sheet with brownish green drops of tea, somehow resembling a teardrop.
"Such astute perception. This resembles the true Miss Margatroid more, doesn't it?"
The words were probably supposed to be a string tethering her back to reality, to be a warning for those who were driven by curiosity, yet again have lost all of its grandeur, its forceful command and charisma one donned, simply brought light to that bitterness looming.
And the voice faded into the texture of her wooden chair, as if the brief sensation under her fingertips were perhaps telling a story.
"My younger sister, Koishi, had ventured off to the above world as well. If one day you should see her, if possible..."
Her mind mentally filled in the sentence left unspoken, please bring her back.
"Please lend her a helping hand."
As if the quiet bitter smile would never cease to exist on the corner of the other one's lips, bearing so strong of a resemblance to the tiny, lifeless sets of dolls lining up perfectly in the head of the bed, on which two quiet pillows were quietly lying.
Even when she lifted herself up from the chair so huge it seemed to swallow all of her small figure, called out for the cat girl that led them here, who perhaps had been around the whole, whole time. Even when that one, with fluttering scarlet braids adorned with charcoal black ribbons, lightly approached the table while skipping on her feet, reached out for the half-empty pot of tea.
"Orin, leave it there for a moment. Miss Margatroid wished to have a word with you."
The eyes of the cat that gazed on her, and the gaze of the satori that no longer eyed her, clouded the bitter space that knew no night and day.
As if the fragrance of flowers in spring in this underworld was neither fake, nor the sign of a certain one she would, and probably never could, forget about.

Completly unrelated to the main plot going on but you knooow.
The same dark dream, the same hell played in her mind over and over again, she was running down some sort of corridor, she was running, but from what? As she reached the door, Seija shot awake. “Why am I having this dream, it’s been happening for five days straight?” Seija muttered to herself as she noted the silver moon high above her in the forest, she laid in a small campsite, every day, she’d keep moving. One day she would be near a small house or the rare chance of an open plain, the next moment, she’d be trapped in untouched forests, the forest she was in was quite a large forest, rows and rows of trees made it hard to navigate from the skies above. However, she sat on a stump, with a small fire, a small fire that would certainly be out by the time morning came.
Enter the Seija

The two fairies landed past the Mist Lake. A big, scarlet-colored mansion stood in the distance. "So, we're back to square one." Cirno complained. "We have no idea where the black-white witch is, and we don't have any leads either. We should just go home and..." the green-haired fairy was looking behind them. "Dai, are you even listening to me?!" Daiyousei was deep in thought, but she came to her senses upon hearing Cirno's voice. "Oh. Sorry, Cirno. It's just... I thought someone was following us..." the fairy shrugged. "Might have been my imagination." "Yeah, whatever... Anyway, I'm gonna go back home. This is too boring." Cirno took off into the air, but the great fairy grabbed her from behind. "Cirno, please! Just one more place! If we don't find Marisa, we'll go home! I promise! ... Just stay with me. Please." "... Ugh, fine!" the ice fairy landed. "So, what's your next idea?" Dai turned around, looking straight at the mansion. "Hmm... How about...?" --- The young vampire was hiding behind some trees, looking constantly at the entrance of the mansion. " Why is Marisa taking so long...?" Flan yawned, took out her Laevateinn and began to spin it. She was getting tired of waiting. Minutes later, Flan sensed something. She went back into hiding. " Is it my sister's dog...?" she peeked from behind the tree, and saw two fairies, one green-haired and the other was blue-haired. The latter seemed pretty weird, having ice shards acting as her wings. " Who are those two...?" the fairies were heading towards the mansion. " The mansion? Why would they go there...? They don't look like maids... Wait..." Flan suspected something was wrong with those two fairies, and, fearing that they might cause trouble to Marisa, she flew as fast as she could. She had to reach the mansion before them. --- The fairies stopped just in front of the mansion's entrance, looking fixedly at the gates. Cirno's eyes drifted to the snoring gatekeeper, though. "Well... This is the only place we haven't visited and that it might be safe for us, so..." Dai said, somewhat frightened. Legends were spread among the fairies regarding the inhabitants of the mansion. They said that a fairy who entered there would never leave again. The few survivors who managed to see the inside of the mansion and come back alive spoke of "a beansprout" and "a monster that lives in the basement". Needless to say, the sight of the mansion made her doubt her reason for coming here. " Why would Marisa come here anyway...?" The ice fairy sighed and went to the gates. "Let's just get done with this already..." However, the ice fairy was forced to back away when something - or rather, someone - almost fell on top of her. The person in question had blonde hair, and wings with crystals on them. When the person stood up, her scarlet eyes looked straight at the fairies, smiling. The sight made Dai back away for a single reason. This "person" fit the description of the monster that lived inside the mansion."Who are you?" the blonde girl said, her crimson eyes fixated on the fairies. "What are you doing here?" Dai struggled to utter a word, since she was really scared. "Uhm... We were going to... Go inside the mansion and... Ask about Marisa..." On the other hand, Cirno was lost deep in thought. "Marisa?" the young vampire got closer to the green-haired fairy. "What do you want from her? No, actually, why do you know her?" The green-haired fairy backed away. "Well, uuh... She's pretty famous and..." Dai gulped. "Ah! Now I remember!" Cirno shouted, while pointing at the blonde girl. "You're that monster the fairies have been talking about with all those legends and stuff!" *BGM: None* The blonde vampire froze. "Monster...?" her face darkened. "The fairies called me a... monster? But... I'm not a monster, am I? No... If I wasn't then why would Big Sis lock me down there...? ..." Silence. Only the rumor of the wind. The moon shines brightly. " Taboo [Laevateinn]" A massive fire whip was suddenly brought down on Cirno, who barely dodged it. The few trees that were behind her all got burned down. "So... You think I'm a monster, huh?" the vampire giggled. "Well. This little monster is going to have some fun with you two~ Forbidden Barrage [Starbow Break]" Danmaku bullets flew out from her wings, flying straight to the fairies. Both managed to dodge the spellcard, and the bullets made loud explosions on the floor. " Ugh... We just wanted to find Marisa, why does this have to happen...?!" the green-haired fairy took out a spellcard. Cirno would get a beating after this for talking without thinking... But first, she needed to calm that girl down... Somehow. " [Kreis of Lost Promise]!"

"This place smells." Yuuka spoke out loud as she began her journey into the caverns below Gensokyo. For a few miles, the walls were dark, damp, and crawling with plants that thrived in the dank conditions. Several youkai sat on the rocks, or hung from the stalactites. Their eyes followed Yuuka as she flew through the tunnels, yet they stayed in the shadows. The journey was mostly quiet, but an occasional stream running across the cave floor broke the silence. Yuuka had only been travelling for a few hours, but the dullness of her expedition meant it felt a lot longer than that. Eventually, at the end of the cave, dim lights came into view. Getting closer; they became brighter, and more plentiful. Flying over a bridge, Yuuka took note of a girl who appeared badly hurt; she was most likely the bridge's guardian... and someone else had already been through here. She was of no concern to Yuuka, though, as this journey had already taken long enough without stopping to ogle at injured youkai. Just past the bridge was the gateway to the Former Capital, and Yuuka decided that she was hungry enough to stop and grab something to eat. The city was much larger than Yuuka imagined, with traditional, uniform, houses stretching for miles in each direction. The marketplace was easy to spot, especially considering the amount of noise emanating from the area. Lots of stalls were stood in an unorganised way, Yuuka picked one of the food stalls and spoke to the oni standing behind it. The food didn’t look particularly appetising, but then again she was fairly hungry. “I’ll take… whatever that is.” The oni was tall and stocky. He let out a hearty laugh, then spoke in a gruff voice, “That’s one of me finest stews!” “Alright, I don’t really care; just give me a bowl.” “Yeesh, you seem grumpy. Not from around here are ye?” “No.” “Well, who are ye then? What are ya doing down here?” Yuuka snatched the bowl from his hands, gave him a glare, then walked away. She heard him calling from behind, “OI, AREN’T YE GOING TO PAY FOR THAT?!” She just ignored him though, and flew toward the Palace of the Earth Spirits. It wasn’t far now, and regardless of how much she wanted to get away from the monotony of everyday life, she had grown tired of the journey and was becoming somewhat sick of the smell. A large gate marked the entrance to the Palace, and the door behind it was slightly ajar. No need to break anything to enter, I guess, Yuuka thought. Upon entering, everything was eerily quiet. While she was outside she could still hear the distant voices of boisterous oni, but once inside the only thing Yuuka could hear was herself. Many doors lined the walls, and the one she was looking for was probably in one of those rooms. She dropped the bag of bodies she was carrying near the entrance, and began her search for the kasha. BANG!Yuuka kicked the first door on the left open and looked inside. No-one. BANG! Next door down, nothing again. She was going to be here a while… BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Yuuka was losing patience. BANG! BANG!One more empty room and she was going to blow them all off their hinges at once. She calmed immediately, after hearing talking coming from a few rooms down. BANG!Sitting in the room was a short girl with pink hair, and a blonde girl with a headband. Both had turned their heads towards the intruder, but only the blonde was visibly shocked. Standing at the side was a red haired cat girl, also shocked, and appeared to have dropped their cup of tea on the floor. Yuuka swung a punch straight towards her face. Climbing back onto her feet after being knocked down, the kasha rubbed her face and shouted angrily at Yuuka, “What’d you do that for?!” “Why haven’t you been doing your job? I’ve had bodies in my field for over two weeks now and had to bring them all the way here. I left them near the entrance.” “I’ve been on break,” Rin continued to rub her face and wince in pain, “You didn’t have to punch me though… I’ll sort out the bodies now, but please remember that I do more in life than just my job!” Rin pushed past Yuuka and left the room. Yuuka turned her attention to the two sitting down. “What are you two gawking at?” The pink haired girl spoke up first, “You intruded on my home, and punched my pet. I can see everything you’re thinking and will always be one step ahead of you, yet you have the nerve to continue your arrogance. It is probably best you leave.” Yuuka was not to be shown up by some small satori. “Read my mind, huh? What am I thinking now?” Satori sighed and spoke again, “Very funny, Miss Yuuka, but cheap insults will get you nowhere in life. You were leaving, yes?” “Not yet. If you’re the head of the house and the cat is your pet, who is this girl? Another pet?” “This is my guest, Alice Margatroid, and unlike you; she has manners.” Yuuka turned toward Alice, and gave her a condescending smile. “Ah, so the little brat has grown older, huh? You’re still carrying that goofy book around though. Do you still live with your mother?” She turned back to Satori, “Oh, I see, you’re the babysitter! Well then, I should leave you be. Wouldn’t want to watch you changing her nappies! Besides, I’m sick of this underground place. You lot need some flowers to hide the smell.” Yuuka was feeling very smug now. I guess you don’t have to use force to hurt people, after all!

“Doesn’t that mean…” Marisa trailed off.
“Yes. The ‘who’ behind this is either using a magical object willingly or was possessed or consumed by it.”
“Couldn’t it be a magical object acting on its own for some reason?”
“However, Sakuya told me it spoke. What it said showed motivation, coherent thought. Magical objects, while being able to vocalize words in some instances, act as they were programmed to. They seldom act on their own, not to speak of having emotions or thoughts. Take Alice’s dolls as an example. If such a feat was as simple, she wouldn’t have dedicated her life researching on how to make dolls act independently and consciously.”
“That makes sense.” The blonde girl put her hand on her chin in thought. With every step she took something would happen to bring things back to square one… No, she was wrong. There had to be something she was overlooking, there had to be.
“Do you know what kind of magic this is? I asked Alice but she couldn’t say much about it, just that it was connected to ghosts in some form.”
“Ghosts… Maybe a ghost got possessed which, albeit ironic, is entirely plausible.” The magician looked down, thinking. “But the fact she couldn’t elaborate on the sigil can be quite telling.”
Squinting her eyes in annoyance, Marisa stared at Patchouli.
“You’re not gonna blame her too, are ya?”
She raised her eyes again. “Don’t be ridiculous, that is not what I meant. This is, without a shadow of doubt, dark magic, or should I say, an ancient variant of it. While she doesn’t practice it she grew in a place surrounded by it. If she didn’t recognize it we can safely assume it didn’t come from Makai.”
Her eyes fell on Marisa’s neck. “However, her inability may stem from the fact that your sigil is blurry and she couldn’t analyze it to best of her capacity.”
“So you’re saying I should double check with her and take a copy of this sigil with me?”
“Correct. May I point out how tiring it is to answer your redundant questions?”
“You may not. Also, I have no idea where she might be.”
She sighed. “If you, of all the people, don’t know, then don’t expect me to know either.”
“Despite your surname being ‘Knowledge’? Man, what a rip-off.”
Patchouli stood calmly looking at Marisa for a few seconds and then turned to silver haired maid. “Sakuya---“
“I was just kidding!” The witch raised her hands in defense. “All I’m saying is please help me locate her.”
“That requires a large amount of magic to achieve and I have to save it would an attack occur.”
Marisa rose to her feet and slammed her palms on the table. “I’ll return ten of your books if you do.”
“Twenty five.”
“Fifteen.”
Now it was Patchouli’s turn to stand up.
“Twenty.”
“Seventeen and half!”
“Ninet--- wait a minute, what do you mean ‘and half’? What have you done to my books?!”
Marisa waved her hands frantically in front of herself trying to dispel the memory of the burnt tome out of her mind. “Just a form of speech, just a form of speech! Nothing happened ze! Alright, I’ll do twenty! Twenty two, even! Okay?”
Patchouli eyed her suspiciously.
“If something happened to them I will transform you into a rat.” Marisa gulped at how cold Patchouli’s voice sounded. “Do you have anything that belonged to her or that she gave you?”
“Why would I have something like that?”
The purple magician just stared at her, her face unreadable.
Marisa’s brows twitched a little and, averting her gaze from Patchouli, she took a tiny rag doll charm from her apron and extended it to her.
“Fufu…”
“Oh, shuddup and be useful, already!” Patchouli could be so goddam annoying sometimes.
After putting the charm on the table, she stretched her arms forward, open palms directed towards the tiny doll. A purple sigil appeared under it, shining brightly and rotating on itself.
The magician stood there for a couple of minutes, eyes closed in concentration as Marisa observed her, head resting on her hand.
The light subsided and Patchouli turned at her.
“So?”
“She’s in Chireiden.”
“In Chi… but why?” She blurted.
“I wonder. But she is, unmistakably there. The residual magic in this doll directly connects to-“
But Marisa wasn’t listening anymore, looking at the doll on the table, she commented, more to herself than to the other beside her.
“This is a really convenient spell. I wonder if I can learn it.”
“It’s impossible for a human like you to learn this. You would exhaust your—“
“I should give it a try!”
“Are you listening to what I’m saying? On the other hand, if you became a magician you would be able to do that and a lot more. Wouldn’t it be convenient for you and her too?”
The witch stood up, chuckling.
“And wouldn’t that be inconvenient for you and her too?”
Patchouli raised her brows.
“You would never get your books back ze!” She grinned.
“You…” She sighed. “You should pay more heed to your words---“
An explosion outside shook the library making Patchouli wide her usually droopy eyes and Marisa utter a quiet “Uh-oh…”
In a flash, the blonde grabbed the charm and shoved it awkwardly in her apron while picking the paper with the sigil with the other hand.
“Thanks for the help, Patchy!” She said quickly as she grabbed her broom.
“Wait! What’s happening?”
“Don’t worry about it! Gotta go! Cya!”

Collab between Nick, Dankiri, and I. It was very fun. All this from a phone. Beast.
-
Reimu walked out of the forest, brows knitted together in thought. How had that thing just dematerialized in front of her? Did Komachi even have that power? It didn’t matter, she’d get her ass handed like everyone else.
The priority now was to warn Marisa.
"Ah, hold on for a second, Hakurei-san," a voice called from behind her. "There are some things I want to talk to you about."
Reimu turned towards the voice.
"Yuyuko." She raised her brows. "How unusual to see you here. Came to raid Kaguya's food? If so, leave some for me."
Yuyuko giggled. "No thanks, I already ate," she retorted, making her way over to the shrine maiden. "I'm here to ask of you some things related to the apparent Human Village attacks. First and foremost, have there really been attacks?"
The shrine maiden's usual bored expression turned serious. "Yes, there have. I was just chasing the culprit a while ago and it simply dematerialized in front of me. Are you sure it's not your doing?"
"Positive. After all, I was only informed of this incident now from Youmu," the ghost replied honestly. "She seemed really freaked out..."
The other seemed to relax at Yuyuko's words. "Well, she is afraid of ghosts. It's probably your fault too." She paused. "So, you decided to investigate too?"
Yuyuko smiled. "I'm not going to sit by and hear about innocent people getting hurt. I want to see if I can do anything about it, so yes," she responded, nodding.
Reimu started walking towards Eientei. "People have started getting hurt already and all the clues I have so far aren't exactly helpful."
Thoughts started going through the pink-haired woman's mind. Even though Reimu was investigating as best she could, it seemed that she really did not have much to work with aside from pinning the blame on others.
"Hmm, that gives me an idea...she may not know much, but she still does know more than I do. Still, I want to find out more..."
"Allow me to accompany you," Yuyuko spoke, hurrying beside Reimu.
"Marisa was the one who gave me most of the informations." For a second there she looked worried but then her expression returned to her usual one. "Whenever I get close to the culprit it just disappears." She sighed. "Honestly, why do people need to be so troublesome?"
"Whatever's going on, just make sure you have a clear head," Yuyuko lectured. "You don't want to head charge blindly into situations. Especially now."
"Don't worry, I never get angry. It's bad for the skin."
"Oh, you really do have smooth looking skin~" Yuyuko praised, comically missing the point.
Reimu sighed and uncerimoniously opened the big door to Eientei, passing by the earth bunnies wandering about doing their chores. "Oh..."
"Oh, the Hakurei miko is back. Did something happen?" Standing in front of the door was Kaguya, who perked up as she saw the ghost "Greetings, Yuyuko!"
Yuyuko smiled. "Hello Houraisan-san," she greeted. "You're in a good mood, it seems."
Kaguya smiled back. "The earth rabbits are making mochi, care to join?"
Reimu interrupted. "We'll pass. I'm here to talk to Marisa and check on the fairies. They came here, right?"
"You'll have to ask Eirin about that." She looked at Yuyuko. "Are you sure you want to pass on the mochi? They're delicious."
"Just take us to Eirin..." Reimu sighed.
"I'll take some mochi on the way, okay~?" Yuyuko suggested.
"Alright, I'll ask the rabbits to get them prepared." Kaguya replied cheerfully.
"Yay, dessert~ You sure you don't want some, Hakurei-san?" Yuyuko cheerfully asked a morbid-looking Reimu.
"No." She replied bluntly and made her way to the infirmary herself.
Eirin was mulling over her reports on the current incident. Something didn’t seem quite right about it, but her train of though was interrupted by the sound of wood sliding on wood.
“Oh, welcome back, Reimu. Sorry to say, but Marisa ran off already. Not a very good patient, that one…”
"What?" She rubbed her temples. "How did she 'run off'? Don't you have rabbit guards everywhere?"
Eirin laughed, and replied "Well, I suppose I do. So either Marisa is very sneaky, or I need to hire better guards. But I think the correct answer here is fairly obvious."
"Obvious, eh?" Yuyuko piped as she headed into the infirmary. "You need to hire faster cooks, too. I'm still waiting for that mochi, Yagokoro-san."
"Ah, Yuyuko, what a pleasant surprise," Eirin's face seemed to light up a bit, with the new friendly company. "And don't let the rabbits hear that, mochi pounding is a very important ritual to them."
"I suppose I'll let that slide then," Yuyuko smiled. "Anyway, hopefully Reimu here didn't interrupt anything important that you were doing."
Reimu counted to ten inwardly, she could feel a vein popping. "I am interrupting because this is important!" She looked at Eirin. "The fairies, are they here or did they 'run off' too?"
Eirin also counted to ten, and maintaining her smile, replied “No, they left as well. So I suppose you have no reason to stay then, no?” Eirin had already told off one child today, she was not in the mood to do so again.
Reimu sighed, turning on her feet. "No, I don't." She said simply and started walking away. She had to find that blonde idiot before she got herself killed.
Yuyuko frowned, turning to Eirin. "It seems to me that you have a lot on your plate to handle. Apologies for barging in like this."
Eirin sighed, and watched the Shrine Maiden's back as she left. Then, she turned to Yuyuko and said "Actually, friend, could you stay for a bit? I'd like to talk, if only to calm my nerves."
Yuyuko nodded and her frown disappeared into a look of concern. "Of course. I'll catch up with Reimu later on. Just tell me what's on your mind."
Eirin glanced at her notes, then gave Yuyuko a grave look. “This is bad, Yuyuko, very bad. The magic at work here is old and dark, and for once, I don’t know anything. I’ve searched my memory, scoured our library, and I can’t find a single trace as to who’s magic this is, or where it came from. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
The silver-haired woman had lost her normal, dominant composure, and finally whispered. “For the first time, in a long time, I’m afraid of what’s to come.”
"I was only informed of this incident only recently from Youmu," the pink-haired woman spoke, looking at Eirin seriously. "I...I wish I could've heard about this earlier. That way I could've done all that's in my power to help out. Now...I honestly don't know. I'm at a complete loss at what to do."
Yuyuko bit her lip and looked down. "I'm ashamed of myself. I feel rather useless..."
Eirin's smile returned and she replied: "What's been done is done, and I'm not worried about that. What I'm worried about is the future. It's uncertain, and I very much dislike that."
The nurse stood up and announced to Yuyuko: "The easiest path out of this, Yuyuko, is not a very happy one. But it's something only you can do with ease. You surely know what I'm talking about, and I know you don't like it..."
Yuyuko suddenly narrowed her eyes as she glared at the nurse, her calm demeanor disappearing in an instant.
"No," she replied bluntly. "Absolutely not. How dare you reach such a conclusion."
Eirin did her best to return the glare, but her demeanor faultered slightly.
"Yuyuko, I don't know how much of the damage and casualties you've seen, but this is no ordinary incident. This isn't a power struggle, a show of dominance. This isn't some petty game amongst gods. This creature is fighting to kill. I haven't been this busy since the last lunar war."
Eirin pointed towards another room, and practically shouted "Do you think people deserve THAT? Go in there, and look at Keine. At Rumia. At my countless other patients. Can you still maintain your frame of mind?"
"I don't care, Eirin!" Yuyuko retorted, her voice beginning to raise. "I know I'm being very selfish right now, but...I just can't go through with such an outcome! I...I refuse..."
She looked away from Eirin and turned her gaze down at her hands. "I refuse to cause death...destruction...d-don't make me do it..."
Eirin paused and winced at Yuyuko's reaction. Settling down, she replied. "Of course Yuyuko. I apologize for my outburst, it was unbecoming of me. I could never ask you to do such a thing..."
Taking a moment to form her thoughts, Eirin continued "But, if you could do an old friend one small favor, I would be delighted."
Yuyuko sighed, calming herself down. "I apologize myself for reacting in such a childish manner. It's just...you know how I feel about my ability. But yet...oh well..."
She looked back at Eirin. "Favor, you ask? I'm listening."
Eirin's voice regained its calm demeanor, and she said relatively shyly “Well, it’s rather embarrassing, really.” Eirin scratched her head. “ I sent Udonge out to look for clues, but I can’t help but worry about her. She has such a habit of running into trouble…” Eirin trailed off, her face turning a little red.
Yuyuko couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "So, you want me to keep an eye on her, is that it?"
Eirin returned the laugh, and said "Yes, if you could. Just... make sure she doesn't do something stupid. And keep an eye on that Pheonix girl, she's a bit short-tempered and impatient."
She then smiled and looked genuinely happy for the first time that day. "Yuyuko, it brings joy to my heart to speak with someone intelligent, every once in a while."
Yuyuko smiled back. "The pleasure is all mine~ Though Eirin..."
The ghost turned away. "If...if I would have no other option than what was suggested before...I would never forgive myself. Even if it would lead to our success."
"Think nothing of it, Yuyuko. It will not come to that. We shall find a more tasteful solution before then."
Eirin glanced at a clock, and said to Yuyuko "Well, I should be making my rounds yet again. It was a lovely talk, thank you for listening to me!"
"Of course. Glad I could help, Eirin," the ghost princess said as she held the nurse's hands. "Keep calm and don't go overboard, alright? I'll keep your request in mind."
