Yo. Some of you don't know much about Fire Emblem, so I'm going to teach you guys the basics. This is Fire Emblem, the first FE game released in America. Despite that, it's actually the seventh game in the series since it was originally just a Japanese video game series (FE4 and FE5 are wicked awesome, though, two of my favorites other than this and FE8). Weird, huh? Oh well, without further ado, let's begin.
Unlike other FE LPs, I won't make fun of any characters in dialogue or anything like that, unless something funny or pathetic comes up. I just want to show off some gameplay via screenshots. Without further ado, let's begin.
Welcome to the world of Fire Emblem.
I'll explain to you guys as well as I can. During your first playthrough, you will automatically start with Lyn Normal Mode, the difficulty above this one. It's essentially a tutorial, and it's rather infamous among FE fans due to how long and tedious it is. So fuck that, we're going into Lyn Hard Mode, which is...pretty much LNM without the tutorial. So hard, right? I'll explain the significance of the guy with the sword in time, as well as someone else not in the screen.
Let's begin.
FE7 was the first game in the series to have this self-insert-like feature. You're the tactician, and well...in a way you're kind of implemented into the story. Just a little. It isn't as extreme as FE12 and FE13's self-inserts, that's for sure. But that's a story for another day. Anyway, I put in my information.
The prologue is a go. Look at the bottom left cornet where it says 'Forest', then look under it. Lyn is currently standing on a forest tile that grants her some defense and avoid. There are different tiles throughout the game, which is pretty nifty.
Hi Lyndis. Here's the main character of the mode. She's one of the three lords in the game. As you can see her stats, I'll go in detail of them:
HP: The higher it is, the more comfortable you'll feel.
STR/MAG: The higher it is, the more damage you can do to enemies/hazards.
SKILL: The higher it is, the higher the possibility of you hitting enemies/getting a critical hit.
SPEED: The higher it is, the higher your dodge/your chance of doubling a foe. To double a foe, your AS (attacking speed) has to exceed theirs by four points.
LUCK: The higher it is, the safer you'll be from being hit by a critical hit.
DEF: The higher it is, the less damage you'll take from melee attacks.
RES: The higher it is, the less damage you'll take from magic attacks.
CON: As you can see, Lyn's constitution is 5. CON determines whether you'll be weighed down by a weapon or not, which determines your attacking speed.
As you can see, Lyn has an iron sword. Its weapon weight is five, which matches with Lyn's CON. Therefore, she won't get weighed down by it, and her AS is 9. Now, if she had a steel sword equipped, that'd be a different story. The steel sword has a weapon weight of ten. Now factored with Lyn's CON, the difference between them determines her AS, with her CON being subtracted from the weapon weight, which affects her AS:
10 WW - 5 CON = 5 SPEED PENALTY
9 SPEED - 5 = 4 AS
...Yeah. We want Lyn to have high natural speed before we have her wield heavy weapons. Anyway as you can see, she has two vulneraries, which heal 10 HP a pop. And she has space to hold five things in total.
Ah, weapons. As you can see, Lyn is currently sporting a D rank in swords. Time to explain each weapon in depth:
Swords: Generally light and accurate. Weak against lances, strong against axes.
Lances: Middle of the road regarding weight between swords and axes, usually. Fairly accurate. Weak against axes, strong against swords.
Axes: Generally heavy and inaccurate, but can cause devastating damage. Weak against swords, strong against lances.
Bows: Can only attack from a distance. Fairly accurate.
Now they're not pictured, but then there's the magic items. I'll go in detail of them in time.
Unit: Displays your current party in the chapter.
Status: Displays your unit number, the enemy unit number, and your objective to complete the chapter.
Options: Displays options you can utilize for ease of use.
Suspend: To save and quit, this is your option. You can resume later.
End: Gets out of the menu.
This is the attacking menu. Yeah, it's this easy in LHM.
And later, we level up! Typical Lyn level. She mainly specializes in SKILL and SPEED. Literally nothing else. Unless she's STR-blessed, she won't be doing much this run.
And that's that. Tell me what you think, guys.
